Too much luck involved...welp cant do nothing about it...
Still in the midst of traveling, but I just want to say that I had a fantastic time this weekend! Everyone in the LA community was SO friendly and welcoming and it was great to put a face to so many familiar usernames. All 3 tournaments ran very smoothly - props to every organizer and judge that made this possible! Looking forward to our next big competitive meetup (hopefully in DC) next year.
What a smooth and successful tournament! Thank you to everyone who came and help out, especially those who traveled from far and wide. And thanks to Strange Cereal for donating their venue. It wouldn't be a success without any of you Smile I really appreciate the hard work everyone has done. Congrats to the winners of the tournament and to the many raffles we've done. Winning combos have been posted: https://worldbeyblade.org/Thread-Winning...s?page=170

Glad you enjoyed the tournament?. Though we hardly know each other and didn’t get a chance to battle you, it was nice meeting you for the first time at the tournament??.

Pre-processing also done. And thank you to Yami and Wombat for seeding players into challonge and adding players to the spreadsheet as they checked in Smile
Beyblade West was an amazing time! There were some good tournaments with some of the best bladers I've seen. The tournaments went fairly smoothly, and I look forward to seeing everyone again!

A couple of notes about this tournament and what we can do to make things go smoother next time:

- 62 entrants is too danged many! I've decided that I much prefer tournaments with a 32 player cap. 5 round swiss is always a good time, 6 can sort of drag, and take too long sometimes.

- The venue was cool, and interesting, but not really ideal for a Beyblade tournament. The echoing was kind of severe, the non-tournament area got kind of crowded, the tournament area was kind of cramped. I felt really claustrophobic the whole time. Also too many people were crowded around the tournament area trying to spectate. I just can't see another 64 person tournament at this venue being effective.

- We need to take physical access to the tournament area seriously. Ideally the tournament area shouldn't be cramped, and should have access beyond a boundary for one spectator per competing blader. Some of the beystadiums (1 and 3) were far from the cone line, and parents kept wandering in. For future tournaments, we should avoid this at all costs! Also, the staging area had too many people using it as permanent sitting space, and too many small children wandered past the cone line dunring the event outside of their matches.

- The loudspeaker setup was a hinderance more than a help. The two loudspeakers were in the tournament area and not the free play area, so bladers mostly didn't hear themselves being called. Also, the loudspeakers were loud. My countdowns of 3 2 1 Go Shoot were frequently interrupted by stadium assignments being called or bladers being called to the staging area. And I would stare at the two competitors apologetically and tell them we have to wait for the loudspeaker to stop. Bladers were sticking their fingers in their ears or getting out earplugs. It was less than ideal!

- A bunch of bladers left midway, as usual. I think we need to start assessing warnings on the WBO forums for leaving tournaments early. They won't learn unless we punish them. Smile

- Organization-wise, the matches got assigned and performed in a fairly fast fashion. The judges were good about staying at their stadiums and judging.

- All those Beyblade launcher peripherals can sometimes do you a disservice! I've seen Beylogger equipped launchers break on more than one occasion. Sometimes multiple times in a single match! Nightmare Goku, you gotta lose that Beylogger!

- That wall bounce rule might have to go. Not my call to make, but if it goes, I won't miss it.
I don't like that bounce rule either.

DeceasedCrab Thanks for your input! I do have to admit the venue was kind of small for 62 players plus parents/guardians. The store owners were even unprepared for the amount of people that showed up even though I told them it would be 64 players max plus parents. I don't know if you noticed, but I left the store to bring in patio chairs from my own home! Regardless, the Strange Cereal still loved the crowd. We did clear some space for the free-play area but even still it wasn't enough. I did let a couple parents in to the tournament area so they can watch their child, but also advised them to keep clear and move if someone needed to get by. Next time, we can make the stadiums more linear instead of staggered so people can have a clear view of each battle. The speakers were definitely helpful, but I can see how they can disrupt your countdown call. Your stadium was right in front of one of the speakers. We wanted the organizer table far behind the tournament area so we wouldn't be approached by people asking about their next match. This meant the mic had to be close to the organizer table and the mic cord was not long enough to go beyond the tournament area. But imagine if we didn't have speakers! The Supreme One would not have a voice anymore lol. A few players did report that they were leaving, but others didn't. That was an announcement I forgot to put in at the beginning of the event. But I think overall, it went really smooth. We were out of the store by 6PM which is great timing (even after cleaning). I like the stand-by area that Kei suggested, but we abandoned it as the crowd thinned out which is fine. I'm glad I bought the cone barriers and grateful for the flag tape that King Loofa used as well. The simplest things can make a big difference. I even went around asking each judge if they needed breaks and asked if the store employees how they were doing. Everyone seemed to be doing fine for the most part. I'd love to do another tournament at Strange Cereal but definitely with less people. I just wanted this tournament to be big and fun! And I'm glad everyone showed up!
