EXPERIMENTAL MFB LIMITED @ 401 GAMES! - 01/29/23
Toronto, ON, Canada - Metal Fight Limited - Unranked Experimental
This event was really quite exciting, as we tackled three (well two) completely new things for our community all at once - venue, ruleset and stadium choice. This event saw the reinstatement of Libra in Metal Fight Limited following the event we did last year as well as the use of the Shin TA stadium. Unlike last year I made sure to bring extra copies of the Libra wheel so it saw plenty of play. Thoughts at the bottom.
Unfortunately I didn't remember to ask JoshZ for the group photo we took for this post, but it is what it is.

Overall thoughts: Shin TA is a really great experience. It does have some slight differences compared to the BB-10 that MFB purists may take issue with - primarily a more defined ridge - but nothing stood out as problematic at this event. The buffs to RF, MF, CS and even B: D cannot go unmentioned, though, with all of them being safer to use without fear of self-KO or the 'empty' feeling KO losses in the case of the latter two.
It is fun for us and it will be seeing a lot more use here. There is much more experimentation to be had.
As for Libra.. well my thoughts on it haven't changed, but only fortified. All of the loaner combos I prepared used it: MF Libra (Mold 3) CH120RF, Libra (Mold 1) B: D, Libra (Mold 1) 230CS.
The B: D loaner was used the most, by far, because it is pretty easy to pick up and use with success if you're going in blind. Truthfully, I don't see much of a difference between it and the 230CS variation as they have many of the same strengths and weaknesses.
The CH120RF variation was used the least despite it being clearly the most powerful way to use Libra to me - stuffing hyper aggressive Attack types that go largely unchecked in Limited.
The Shin TA was also a really great place to test this out as the ridge makes it so Libra is likely at its most powerful state, highlighting problem areas if they existed. For example, there was a worry I had about Libra B: D being difficult to handle in general but the reality is that even here with a "tougher" ridge it was not difficult to knock out. In the end many people opted to use Meteo to combat my loaner since it is incredibly low risk and can consistently defeat most right spin MFL Stamina combos with ease.
The counter-play options were there for all three of the Libra loaners and the fact that they already exist in the current state of Limited here made it so the necessity to knock off the "scary wheel" with some unique combo crafting mid-event didn't happen. Answers to it and things like it are already very common practice here for their other qualities, so it never felt meta-warping during the event, or worrying if someone chose the loaners.
Basically another good event with Libra being thrown into the MFB Limited mix and not being the boogeyman it was portrayed as way back when. Next we are trying DK re-intro as well, considering its most 'toxic' aspect is shared with an already Limited-legal Wheel..
