This was my favourite event of the weekend. It illustrated to me how important context is when we are evaluating parts. Because we were playing 3on3 and 5G, the strength of Driger V2 was neutralized relatively speaking. Everyone used it, but you had to be tactical with where you decided to use it. Same thing with spin direction changes on Layers like Legend Spriggan. Especially in 5G, which we played to 5 points. And although my feeling is that Driger V2 probably will be banned when looking at all of the match types we allow as a whole, this is a good example of an event which seemed necessary to me; players should be given the opportunity to let parts like this play out in real life so that we can more properly evaluate them.
As for 5G, I spoke previously about playing 5G using the traditional 3 points to win rules and how it emphasized preparation and invoked an intense sense of danger that rewards players who can instinctually perform well from the beginning. I still think that is a valid way to play, but I enjoyed the version to 5 points we played in this event too. Dan has pointed out that it feels sort of like extended 3on3, but I think that in and of itself is interesting. With more combos in play you have more freedom to alter your strategy when the reshuffle comes into play. You can emphasize the combos you are confident with and almost 'discard' the others by placing them in the fourth and fifth slots.
