, Photoshop is officially recognized as the standard, and almost, if not ALL graphics designers use it. And Adobe is the standard for practically anything to do with graphics. Photos, videos, stories, everything. 
, for lightsources, look at your render, where is it lighter, and where are the shadows. The shadows is the darker side, and the lighter side is the side where the light source needs to be. Look at my Izaya signature, right beside his head is where I chose the lightsource to be because that's where it looks natural.

othellog, the second signature you made feels crisp, as it seems to used the Burn 'n Dodge Tool.
Theoretically, though, that would require you actually having a light source which you failed to supply.

Nice what brush did you use for smudging? and the BG looks like clouds
I really like the way it was smudged, definitely. But the top right corner seems to distract me for some reason, possibly the blur there? I'm not sure, but it's still really nice.
BeybladeStation, did you use a tutorial for that one? I remember seeing one exactly like that.

I do not use brushes.
Everything is self made, unlike some other GFX'ers here. [Of course not the render, though]

I made it from scratch! Very nice, I used:
-Rule of 3rds
-Brush Selection
-Burn 'n Dodge
-Outer Ball of Light
-Gradient Map OP - 32%
-Overlayer Apply Image for all layer FULL Edit
All in a good 1 hour. I like the result, could'a been better.
Gradient maps are awesome.

You should completely drop the text for that... I'm slightly confused as to why I have a feeling there is something wrong... (this is the reason I'm bad a GFX I struggle to identify faults)

You should have more confidence in yourself, you were pretty much right about that. Text should fit, and text should never be that far spaced apart, or that large. But the signature is pretty nice for someone who's just beginning.

thanks but I personally just that the text would be badly placed If I put it on the top. and I used fragments or whatever they are called

Also, try a thicker text in, maybe, blue. I may be a no0b, but I think that'll look better.
