We continued our experiments with the 5G Match Type in this tournament. This time, we modified the rules to force a match winner after both players have used all five of their Beyblades if one player has a lead.
The idea behind this was that it would add more pressure onto players to end things sooner and avoid the usage of the reshuffle compared to how we had done it before where the match would continue after the fifth Beyblade if nobody had reached five points yet.
The result did indeed put more pressure on players and no match in the finals went past the sixth Beyblade.
However, the consensus among myself, Dan, and Abellia was that it probably wasn’t worth it in the end. One thing I had pointed out to Dan before this event was that most 5G Matches ended at the sixth or seventh Beyblade without this ruling in place anyways (such as the ruleset we used for
BEYBLADE NORTH 2022 (Burst Limited). The 10 battle limit assists with this too.
And there is no way to force even the ruleset we used for this event to end with a “1on1” sudden death type situation because both Beyblades can tie two times and force advancement to the seventh Beyblade anyways.
One of the downsides of this version of the rules–and which completely kills it from consideration for me–is that if you have a lead of greater than 2 points going into the fifth Beyblades, your victory is secured and there is no point in playing the final battles.
This happened in my semi-final match against henwooja1 (I actually forgot that we were using this ruleset and made strategic choices based on the other ruleset that put me in that position lol) and then again in the final match between henwooja1 and Dan.
Like 3on3, I think 5G works when there is no forced end after each player has used each Beyblade in their deck. Done this way, there is no situation in which meaningless battles are produced. A forced end to any match in any match type should be reserved for when battle limits are reached and not in any other circumstance.
