WBO, strict or not strict?

Mods have been lenient with newbies, and still they do manage to avoid spam. Kudos to you all!
I have never seen this site to be strict, as I haven't goofed up things recently. So yeah! Its even better to be on this site. Smile

I personally think they take things overboard on every area of the site.

It has been made very clear: It signifies simply spamming Welcome Messages into whatever post is at the top of the welcome forum to bolster your own post count, without actually reading the post, and it's date, adequately. Don't take it as a personal thing though, it's more that there is a lot of history of such behaviour, enough that it became a concern of a lot of members and the committee itself, that people were not "welcoming" in any meaningful manner, just spamming to boost their own post count.

That still sounds terrible to be honest with you.
So because a few members in the past have used it to boost their counts, suddenly anyone that does it without writing a page of text is treated the same as one of those mindless forum fodders?
Do as other sites do and do not make greeting posts add onto a users post count.

When you write a welcome message that has no content whatsoever, we see that as SPAM. Plenty of people in the past have done this, by posting images or just saying 'welcome', so you're not alone; we don't discriminate.

When The Committee saw that some users were repeatedly posting in the introduction forum to get closer to the Antique Face, they caught on and just decided to eliminate those posts alotgether. In the future, try to welocme someone who's been on for less than two weeks, and actually take the time to read the OP; maybe direct them to helpful topics.

It was more than a few, it was a sizeable chunk of the userbase who contributed very little else in terms of quality posts.

There is also the fact of your username history: Anything like that will instantaneously mean moderators are more wary of your behaviour.

That said, I will leave further explanations to those who actually handle these things.

Kai-V adequately explained why you received a warning when she closed your thread. Your post, even under the best of circumstances, was not particularly contributory or interesting, let alone helpful to the "new" user.

Also under the "best" of circumstances they would have just messaged me about it instead of a PERMANENT infraction. That part threw me the most and was the last nail that made me bring it up to start with, had it been a temporary thing I'd have thought no more about it. But it really is not worth throwing out permanent anythings about, regardless to how hard you people try to tell me otherwise.

You need nine more of those capitalized permanent noncapitalized infractions before you have a problem.

Either way, whether or not you think they are worth it is not really up for debate: it does not matter.

10% is hardly anything to worry about. I got my 10% warning for posting that I hadn't found anything while trying to find Beyblades, and after a day I got over it. Just shake it off and try to step up your posting habits.

And yeah just for clarity, my warning level isn't 0% either.

It's not nice to see next to your name but 10% is nothing to worry about, in fact, a lot of the best members of this site have a warning level above Zero. It's not perfect, and it's trite of us to say "don't worry", but yeah, I hope it assuages things a little and at least relaxes any discouragement you might feel towards posting here, given a bunch of your posts were actually really good.

All of our warnings are permanent, by the way, we just never do expiring warnings. That is simply a default functionality of our forum software, but if we could we would probably just remove it altogether. We only give warnings knowing that they will be permanent, and in some cases, if the quality of someone's posts has greatly increased, we can consider revoking it (the same thing as expiring, hm ?) in the future.

Nyeh, it is and it isn't. Reason it is, members (NOT ONLY ADMINS AND ADVANCED USERS) can yell at noobies if it was clearly a mistake. It can be kind of riciculious some times, even if the member knew it was most likely a mistake, for they are just begenners. But then again, th!nk stated that they just want the noobies to learn, learn, and learn! So its balanced.

The WBO is not strict. Everything is promoted by reason. Yes, we do reinforce them greatly, but that doesn't me that the WBO is strict. I don't understand what people mean when they say "The WBO is so mean/strict."

So you're telling me there's not much debate going on? Okay, if you say so. The page count shows that there's been plenty of posts about discussing whether this place is strict or not. If there's so many people saying "yes it's strict", then comments like "It's not being strict, it's called doing their job" are a little redundant.

It's not 26 pages of hatred for the WBO, either...
Case in point, I don't see how the number of pages this thread has contirbutes to the strictness of this forum. If The Committee was shooting down every opinion brought up here with their own reasons, I could see your point, but for the most part, people are calmly stating how strict they think the WBO is.

They are, in fact, perhaps redundant, but this is a subject we want to let people freely express themselves on, and it is important for us to get this feedback. Honestly, I am generally happy with the reactions we have gotten in this thread, so perhaps you should read all the posts before writing things like that.
