:: The Metal Fury Project ::
Phase 2 - Stamina
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Hey guys! Who's ready for Phase 2 of this exciting project? Conventional Stamina is a super important element to test in any given format, so this will definitely be a beneficial source of information once we pack it full of testing.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
As you all know, this Limited format incorporates mostly parts from the old Hybrid Wheel/Metal System generations. Well, we already have testing for all that stuff. A lot of it's on Beywiki, and, thanks to the great testing bladers before us, we already know everything we need to know about this format.
Right...?
Wrong! All these parts have been tested before, because, at one time, they showed competitive potential. However, there was one series of Beyblade releases that were never tested, due to the fact that, though they were new, they showed no potential against the current metagame. That series was Hasbro's Metal Fury line, their Hybrid Wheel conversions of Takara Tomy's 4D series.
However, as Synchrom and 4D have been eliminated in this exciting new format, Metal Fury has become... well... actually good for something! In the Metal Fury Project, members who wish to volunteer will undergo extensive testing for the Metal Wheels from the Metal Fury line, to find where they lie competitively in the Limited Format meta. This is Phase Two, testing in the field of Stamina. Defense will, obviously, follow later.
Please volunteer your time to test these Metal Wheels out to see if they hold potential!
Fortunately, back around a year ago when I had no idea what I was doing, I bought loads of Metal Fury Beyblades. I'm happy I did now, but I don't have everything! If you own any Metal Wheels that have not been tested yet, chances are it's because I don't own them. Break 'em out and start testing!
We also need multiple users to test each Metal Wheel so that we can see whether or not the results are consistent. If you own any Metal Fury Wheels and the top-tier Track/Bottom combinations to test them out, please do!
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Here, we'll be testing the Metal Fury wheels Phantom, Scythe, and Duo. These are really the only wheels that have shown any potential in the past, and their 4D counterparts were all revolutionary in the field of Stamina following their releases.
To best analyze these Metal Wheels' performance, we'll be setting them up in mirror matches against the ever-dominant Burn Metal Wheel, probably the best contender for pure Stamina in Limited format. We'll also be testing against Earth, another amazing Stamina wheel (and probably the most popular one currently). We'll be testing mirror matches with 230D, W145WD, and 85WD. Unfortunately, I do not own two TH170's, but the 230 testing should more than make up for that.
SR200 TB testing may come later, but, as these alone will be extremely time consuming, I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. XD
We'll also be doing testing to compare each wheels' recoil, by putting them each up on W145WD against a semi-aggressive combination, Gravity Perseus TR145RSF (right-spin, counter mode). This will tell us how high the recoil of each wheel is (which is very important, hence the frequent use of Earth/Libra over Burn).
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Let the testing begin!
Recoil benchmarks:
Earth Cancer W145WD vs. Gravity Perseus TR145RSF
Cancer launched first on all launches. Perseus in right-spin/counter mode.
Earth: wins, 6/20 (All OS)
Gravity: wins, 14/20 (All KO)
Earth Cancer W145WD win rate:
30%
Burn Cancer W145WD vs. Gravity Perseus TR145RSF
Cancer launched first on all launches. Perseus in right-spin/counter mode.
Burn: wins, 2/20 (1 KO, 1 OS)
Gravity: wins, 18/20 (All KO)
Burn Cancer W145WD win rate:
10%
These will help up compare between each wheel's recoil later.
Phantom testing:
Burn testing:
Phantom Cancer W145WD vs. Burn Cancer W145WD
Parts swapped after round 10. Beys alternated launching first.
Phantom: wins, 9/20 (All OS)
Burn: wins, 11/20 (All OS)
Phantom Cancer W145WD win rate: 45%
These tests seemed to be extremely favorable to whichever was launched first. Phantom was able to squeak out a win most of the time when it was launched first, but only by a couple dozen rotations. When Burn was launched first, it out-spun by a mile. I have no doubt it could've spun for another 30-40 seconds after Phantom fell over during most of its wins. It was quite obviously ahead of Phantom.
However, 45% against Burn in a mirror match is still pretty darn awesome. Phantom did a pretty good job in any case.
Phantom Cancer 85WD vs. Burn Cancer 85WD
Parts swapped after round 10. Beys alternated launching first.
Phantom: wins, 4/20 (1 KO, 3 OS)
Burn: wins, 16/20 (1 KO, 15 OS)
Phantom Cancer 85WD win rate: 20%
Eh... fail. XD Burn pretty much solidly out-did Phantom.
Phantom Cancer 230D vs. Burn Cancer 230D
Parts swapped after round 10. Beys alternated launching first.
Phantom: wins, 5/20 (1 KO, 4 OS)
Burn: wins, 15/20 (All OS)
Phantom Cancer 230D win rate: 25%
Phantom was actually going dead even with Burn for the first ten rounds, but after I swapped parts, Burn took over by a little.
Burn pretty much does flat-out better than Phantom from what I can see, but one must remember that Burn does flat-out better than a lot of things. Phantom looks viable, but by no means at Burn's level. The Earth tests will probably let us evaluate better.
Earth testing:
Phantom Cancer W145WD vs. Earth Cancer W145WD
Parts swapped after round 10. Beys alternated launching first.
Phantom: wins, 9/20 (All OS)
Earth: wins, 11/20 (All OS)
Phantom Cancer W145WD win rate: 45%
Yah... Earth was noticeably ahead of Phantom here for the most part, but whichever was launched first usually won anyway (which really seems to happen a lot when I'm testing this wheel...).
Phantom Cancer 230D vs. Earth Cancer 230D
Parts swapped after round 10. Beys alternated launching first.
Phantom: wins, 11/20 (All OS)
Earth: wins, 9/20 (All OS)
Phantom Cancer 230D win rate: 55%
This was pretty impressive... it was going dead even for the first ten rounds, but after that, Phantom barely squeaked ahead and pulled an extra win.
Phantom Cancer 85WD vs. Earth Cancer 85WD
Parts swapped after round 10. Beys alternated launching first.
Phantom: wins, 9/20 (All OS)
Earth: wins, 11/20 (All OS)
Phantom Cancer 85WD win rate: 45%
Eh... Phantom was almost even. Earth was a little bit ahead, but not by too much.
Recoil testing:
Phantom Cancer W145WD vs. Gravity Perseus TR145RSF
Phantom launched first on all launches. Gravity in right-spin/counter mode.
Phantom: wins, 2/20 (1 KO, 1OS)
Gravity: wins, 18/20 (All KO)
Phantom Cancer W145WD win rate: 10%
Er... yah. Phantom's recoil is pretty horrendous. :\ If it's going dead even with Earth, I really see no reason to use it instead.
Average win rate: 35%
Phantom discussion thread!
Scythe testing:
Burn testing:
Scythe Cancer W145WD vs. Burn Cancer W145WD
Beys alternated launching first. Parts swapped halfway through.
Scythe: wins, 17/20 (2 KO, 15 OS)
Burn: wins, 3/20 (1 KO, 2 OS)
Scythe Cancer W145WD win rate: 85%
Holy Guacamole... oh my goodness... hmmm... THIS IS CRAZY! 85% win rate against Burn with a Stamina type is absolutely unbelievable! I'm super excited about this. Scythe completely dominated.
Scythe Cancer 85WD vs. Burn Cancer 85WD
Beys alternated launching first. Parts swapped halfway through.
Scythe: wins, 0/10
Burn: wins, 10/10 (2 KO, 8 OS)
Scythe Cancer 85WD win rate: 0%
Every single win here was due to scraping... like Duo on a short track, Scythe overhangs so low to the ground that scraping is unavoidable at such a low height. Perhaps even more so than Duo, since Scythe is so wide that when it begins to precess even slightly the outer edge of the wheel makes contact with the stadium floor.
After these disappointing results, I tried 100 briefly, and it still utterly failed. Then I went to the extreme and attempted some rounds with 105:
Scythe Cancer 105WD vs. Burn Cancer 85WD
Beys alternated launching first. Parts swapped halfway through.
Scythe: wins, 5/20 (2 KO, 3 OS)
Burn: wins, 15/20 (2 KO, 13 OS)
Scythe Cancer 105WD win rate: 25%
This got rid of most of the scraping... not all of it, but most of it. Scythe still, however, was so low and wide that it could not precess on WD's edge without scraping at the very end (which cost it the win more than once). All in all, to be honest low-height Stamina is not Scythe's strong point.
Scythe Cancer 230D vs. Burn Cancer 230D
Beys alternated launching first. Parts swapped halfway through.
Scythe: wins, 15/20 (5 KO, 10 OS)
Burn: wins, 5/20 (1 KO, 4 OS)
Scythe Cancer 230D win rate: 75%
Score! This was like striking solid gold... this is, by far, my absolute favorite Stamina combo in limited format. It can OS just about anything.
Earth testing:
Scythe Cancer W145WD vs. Earth Cancer W145WD
Beys alternated launching first. Parts swapped halfway through.
Scythe: wins, 10/10 (All OS)
Earth: wins, 0/10
Scythe Cancer W145WD win rate: 100%
This was just an absolute slaughter. The wins were so clean and so obvious.
Scythe Cancer 105WD vs. Earth Cancer 85WD
Beys alternated launching first. Parts swapped halfway through.
Scythe: wins, 14/20 (All OS)
Earth: wins, 6/20 (All OS)
Scythe Cancer 85WD win rate: 70%
I just decided to skip the scraping and shoot straight for 105 this time. You could easily see the dramatic drop in performance when you put Scythe on a low track. It still took down Earth, but not by nearly as much as it did on W145.
Scythe Cancer 230D vs. Earth Cancer 230D
Beys alternated launching first. Parts swapped halfway through.
Scythe: wins, 16/20 (1 KO, 15 OS)
Earth: wins, 4/20 (1 KO, 3 OS)
Scythe Cancer 230D win rate: 80%
Earth's 4 wins were before the parts swapped. I think I grouped the worst ones and the best ones separately this time, because as soon as I switched, Scythe went careening ahead. After that, there was absolutely no contest.
Recoil testing:
Scythe Cancer W145WD vs. Gravity Perseus TR145RSF
Scythe launched first on all launches. Gravity in right-spin/counter mode.
Scythe: wins, 6/20 (2 KO, 4 OS)
Gravity: wins, 18/20 (All KO)
Scythe Cancer W145WD win rate: 30%
Yippee! These numbers are on level with Earth. Impressively low recoil for a Stamina wheel. What we have here folks, is a Burn that takes hits like a Libra. I really, really like this Metal Wheel. Although it's only average on a low track, its results on 230 and W145 are astounding.
Average win rate: 58.13%

While at first it looked like the second Bey launched would always be the winner, after the part swap Earth didn't have a chance. Apparently Earth started with the better of the two sets of mirrored parts, and even with that benefit it still lost half of the time.

Fantastic results against Earth, predictable results against the Takara Tomy Duo, and rather surprising results against Burn.
Duo discussion thread!
Overall, to sum it up:
Phantom is sort of meh. It's not necessarily bad, but it's basically a Burn without the advantage of higher-than-average Stamina. There's just no reason to use it over Earth or Burn with such high recoil and only mediocre Stamina.
Scythe is absolutely amazing. Aside from the fact that it's virtually unuseable on a low track, the thing is astoundingly dominant on 230, W145, and TH170 from what we've seen so far. It even out-does Burn the majority of the time! Plus, it has far lower recoil than Burn or Phantom, which is extremely advantageous in just about any situation.
Duo... I don't really know what to say about Duo. I don't own it, but from the numbers I see I'd say it's no knockoff. Some members have been concerned with its extremely low defensive ability, but, again, I haven't experienced it.
So, my personal final conclusion:
Scythe > Earth/Burn > Phantom
And then Duo is somewhere off to the side, because, again, I really have no experience with it. XD
Remember, confirmation is absolutely crucial. Test guys! Remember, if you have testing, make sure to post it here
and in the corresponding part's discussion thread if there is one. Also, thanks to Ingulit, Zancrow, and Galaxy Blade for their testing!
One more request here... I know it's a long shot, but if anyone happens to own a Hasbro Death, could they maybe try it out a little and see if it's any good? I wouldn't expect amazing numbers, but just something to experiment with if somebody has time.
Merry Christmas everybody!
