I wished there was a way to at least prevent you from getting it if you haven already, as of the time I heard of Ebola, I never shake hands with anybody, as that's how effective Ebola is.

As insensitive as that sounds, I'm not risking it. I thought Ebola was like the swine flu where it was a lie but it wasn't.

Really? I heard it's making its debut sometime around Oct. 24. I have a huuuuge convention to go to the 25th so I'm scared about that.

You don't need to. Just make sure you wash your hands as often as possible and be careful that you don't touch your mouth or nose when you're at public places, then your chance of getting ebola is as good as zero.

Don't let the media scare you. They are making people panic more than neccesary on purpose. If you want to talk to somebody, who has quite some medical knowledge, shoot Captain a pm. He's studying medicine at university and I'm positive he can explain well to you, why you really don't have to be scared.

Ebola only transfers through bodily fluids so just made sure to wash your hands often like Stoney said. Maybe even carry a small bottle of Germ-X. If you know you're going to be in a place with a lot of people, wear a surgical mask if you're that scared of it, but that's a little extreme (Totally acceptable in an airport though)

Ebola spreads through eating contaminated meat and through body fluids, as you said. Unless someone sneezes in your mouth, a mask won't help at all.

Antimicrobial stuff like hand sanitizers should work pretty well though.

Well, it is possible that you can catch Ebola without having direct contact with someone who is infected... This doesn't count as being airborne, but it is still scary nonetheless.

You think that's something stupid? Someone stuck a tomato slice high on the locker room wall last Friday, and we we kept calling it concentrated/evolved Ebola. It finally fell of today.

Last week, someone said that they'd rather have the disease than be friends with someone.

That's exponential growth for you; in 2 months of unchecked growth, a disease or anything else that spreads can grow completely out of control. The issue is less with "omg ebola is unstoppable it's the apocalypse" and more with "we aren't sending enough supplies to the people who need them." The UN can't actually "disband" countries. It can impose sanctions and even make military actions against them, if necessary, but it can't decide to suddenly "disband" a country, particularly the US. I'm not some sheltered, patriotic idiot that overvalues his country - it's simply because the US is such a huge part of the UN to begin with. 29% of the UN's military funding and 22% of its overall budget comes from the US - over twice that of the second-highest contributor. The UN headquarters is in New York, the US has a permanent seat on the Security Council, and the current Security Council President is an American. For the UN to take such a severe action against the US would be beyond shooting itself in the foot - it would pretty well mutilate its structure.

Researching this bit led me to a lot of not particularly trustworthy conspiracy blogs, and no real evidence indicating that this is even remotely true.

Unless you are saying that this applies only under the previous UN-takes-over-the-US scenario which I just covered, this statement doesn't hold water either. If the UN plans on messing with a US operation, they won't - and can't - simply redirect the whole thing. If the US is doing something the UN doesn't like, the UN will publicly call out the US first, demanding change, then impose sanctions, then possibly act through military means.

The UN has no pre-existing functions to enact such a thing, it has no reason to do so, it has very little actual power to attack its own member countries, since a great deal of its strength comes through cooperation, and it would be committing suicide if it tried to attack a good chunk of itself.
