Honestly, this isn't like buying a house or moving away, this is something about you and can only be about you. You are the only one who can make the decision if you belong to a religion or not, and you have made that choice pretty clearly, so I don't see why he is holding you back; that will do nothing to change who you are and your choice about religion.
Now, not to be
that guy, but if he isn't going to accept one of the biggest choices for people, then you should probably stay with your mother.
