If the "old rival" thing is referring to a returning Defense-Type user, then my guesses lean towards Wakiya or Phi as they seem like the most likely candidates in my eyes.

I mean no disrespect to Kensuke or Gwyn because I honestly really do like them as characters and would love to see them make a comeback too. But Kensuke (in the manga) had about as much relevance as Cuza (in the manga) did, namely none, and the Kerbeus line just kinda faded into the background with little to no effort in its stock combo.

With Gwyn, whilst he was a major character in GT and has more of a chance than Kensuke, Genesis' Infinite Lock System would make it difficult to translate into Sparking. So they would either have to, a). Make it one whole Layer just like Regalia Genesis and Big Bang Genesis, removing the Layer's customizability with the Chassis, b). Make a special Chassis and Chip that are free-spinning to emulate the gimmick, or c). Remove the Infinite Lock System entirely in order to make it customizable with other Sparking Layers.

With Wakiya and Phi, they're both major enough characters in the manga whilst with Wyvern and Phoenix, they're both beys that can translate into the Sparking System just fine IMO.

My thoughts still point to it being Wyvern and Wakiya. While it could very well be Phi or Gwynn, I feel Wakiya feels more like a "rival" compared to the other two and he fits the "old rival" title more.

There's problems with Wakiya
1. He's a important character shown multiple times, but is removed from the anime
2. Hes not a character in the anime, why give him an entire booster

Delta and Diabolos exist, even though it was a random booster. It seems like some RBV prizes will be in the anime and some will not. GT had 4 rbv beys that weren't in the anime. It's possible that other beys may appear in releases, but not in the anime itself. Things like that could be fair game.

Yeah, but if its not gonna be in the anime they wont give it a full booster. this is one of the only thing for its mpnth (or the only thing). Why focus on it when it wont be animated.

Based on the opinions I’ve seen beyblade burst god is usually everyones favourite or second favourite season while rise/gt wasn’t all too popular which by that logic would mean Wyvern has a higher chance but either way, season popularity usually doesn’t matter. What really sells this as being a new Wyvern is the apparent “old rival” description. Wakiya can be considered a rival sort of character and again, we gotta put emphasis on the “old” part. That being said Gwynn isn’t really an “old” rival while Wakiya has been around since seasons 1-2 and is more of a veteran than the rest of the legendary defense bladers who currently have unreleased beys.
