After WHAT GOES ROUND COMES AROUND on Sunday, October 13th, 2019 at High Park we will be hosting this small unranked, experimental Burst Format event where we will be testing WBBA 3on3 Battle Format.

If you’re interested in helping us test out a new and fun way of playing Beyblade from TAKARA-TOMY’s ruleset, join us for this tournament! See the format specific rules below.

WBBA 3on3 Battle Format Rules
This tournament will be played using an experimental non-WBO ruleset for the matches played: WBBA’s 3on3 Battle Format. This format is used by TAKARA-TOMY for some of their events in Asia. The rules are as follows:

1. Matches are to 3 points
Outspin = 1 Point
Knock Out = 1 Point
Burst = 2 Points

2. Deck Construction: 3 Beyblades
Each player constructs a deck consisting of 3 Beyblades. No parts may be repeated throughout each combination. The same rules from WBO’s Deck Format for repeating parts will apply (see the WBO Burst Format rulebook).

3. Inspection & Deck Sequencing
After inspection, each combination will be placed into one of the three numbered slots in a deck box (pictured above).

We will have these available to borrow at the event, but please bring your own if you have one.

4. Perform Battles in Sequence
Players perform battles following the sequence of the Beyblades in their deck box until one player scores 3 total points. This means for example that the Beyblades in the #1 slot will play each other, followed by #2 vs #2, and #3 vs. #3.

5. Ties
  • If there is a tie at any point, the match will be replayed using the same two Beyblades until a winner is determined for that round.
  • If neither player has earned 3 Points after all three rounds have been played between all three Beyblades, players will re-order their entire deck in secret and then play a decisive fourth round (and fifth, if needed) to determine the match winner.

Note: All other existing WBO Burst Format rules unrelated to the match ruleset outlined above will apply for this event. Finals will also be played using the WBBA 3on3 Battle Format.

If you're coming to High Park via the Bloor St W entrance, just follow that road down on the right side and you'll see the large building/shelter on the left hand side before you reach the tennis courts. We will be playing in the area on the grass in front of it. If you have any questions about the location, please post here!

NOTE: Public washrooms can be found just west of the Bloor St W entrance of High Park. There are no public washrooms available at the High Park Nature Centre. Do not knock on their door asking to enter.

Tournament Bracket on Challonge

As always, during the tournament while we cannot give you a set time for when your next match will take place, you are welcome to follow along with the tournament bracket on Challonge. Challonge is the management tool we use to run the event.

No Bey? No Prob!
Don't have any Beyblades from this series? No problem! We would be happy to lend a Beyblade and launcher to you to use for your tournament matches!

Have a BeyStadium? Bring it!
We will be bringing stadiums for this event, but more are always welcome! Any BeyStadium is fine for free play, but BeyStadium Standard Types (pictured below) are particularly appreciated. If you can bring one, please post here to let us know.

Oops! I am the first one to post here. I have been watching all Asian tournaments (including Korean and Japanese ones) and am used to your experimental type. When I went to Carlsbad last month, I was little bit confused about how to play. I absolutely welcome your new type of tournament and hope I can do it in California - I wish I could fly over there.
I just realized I have another commitment in the evening on the day of this event, so I've pushed the registration and start times for this event ahead by half an hour.

  • Registration now begins at 2:30PM.
  • Registration now ends at 2:45PM. We will begin the tournament shortly thereafter.
Good stuff Kei, interested in the experiences of organizing and playing in this kind of event and how different it can be in terms of strategy and perspective.

Are you adopting the WBBA style ruling on choosing spin direction? I saw a video of a Japanese Youtuber that was officiating a younger age bey tourney and when a dual spin bey was revealed from the box, the owner would be allowed to declare which spin he would like to use for that match. It was funnier when it was two Cho-Z Spriggans and one of the kids was very visibly disappointed that he didn't get an opposite spin match-up.
So there's no SR, Cz-S, or lord mode changes similar to normal standerd. I know it's allowed in normal 3 on 3 in Asia so just making sure about rule changes Grin

Yeah, I think we should always be open to trying new ways of playing the game! I've played this format several times in Japan and want to see how people react to it here.

In the event description I mentioned:

So, this means WBO part-specific rulings like the one for Cho-Z Spriggan will apply for this event.

I might try full WBBA in the future, but not quite ready for that yet. The spin direction switching is one thing I still don't really agree with. Although there is also other interesting rulings like the ability for players to remove their Disk Frame too.

My message above should answer this! No mode changes for those will be allowed this time.

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in this experimental event today! We talked a bit at the event, but I'm curious to hear what your final impressions of the WBBA 3on3 Format were. I'll post some of my thoughts when I post the winning combinations soon.
