That's basically it though; why would Hasbro want cross-compatibility with the Japanese releases? They lose out on sales by supporting Japanese releases, as you'll buy those instead of their versions. It's a smart business move, and also a smart move to prevent parents complaining that the toys are basically breaking over time. Also saves you from buying as many parts because they've worn down (e.g Valkyrie, Deathscyther).
In a way, it's all a great thing. In another, it's rather frustrating being locked to the country you bought the parts from.
