145 has been outclassed by 230/TH170 and even lower tracks like 100/90/85 but..145 can destabilize 230 so I think 145 will be better against 230

it'll work on nearly anything. I haven't tested out weak launching fully yet, but it seemed to work relatively well all around.

CH120 will always be a better alternative, because neither are very good for stamina, and CH120 is better of defense and attack. You can use D125 if your CH120 rattles way too much and causes your beyblade to have slightly stupid movements.

But you should use CH120 over D/T125 anyday.

I'm going to try to keep this short so it doesn't turn into an essay. Because of Basalt, 230, BD145, CS, MB the use of the D bottoms have diminished. The only stamina that beats Basalt 230/BD145 CS/MB is Scythe Kronos BD145EDS. It struggles for some people against basalt 230 though. The rest, like Hell Kerbecs BD145WD don't do so well.

D can be used in place of CS on 230 combos. The shape of D just seems to work on 230. it provides less defense though.

So because D has Less defense, and when CS is worn, CS has stamina, as well as defense power, which is way more reliable. So the use of the D bottoms has gone down. But not gone. It still does decent, just not 1st place quality. Well, from what I've seen.

Ok, ive used up my good parts, which consist of lldd125r2f, variares 100mf, and scythe lyra ed145cs. I have flame libra, thermal lacerta, 3 faces, pegasis 2, unicorno 1, kronos, screw,ray, galaxy,w105, d:d, t125, and finally hf. Gimme watevers best.

Is it actually possible to make a competitive combo WITHOUT having to use a freaking Metal Face?

Yeah,possible,but the performance would be a bit different.Metal Faces are not used with top tier stamina,anyway.
