Hello everyone! It's good old CrisisCrusher07 here, coming at you with a good old fashion tournament report for the "Beyblade Returns to River City", a ranked Burst Standard Single Bey tournament, hosted by Garishi and his lovely wife The H.I.P.
Today I'm gonna be like DeceasedCrab and recommend the following music for reading the report. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78bf-v1O...Protocol72 Everyone loves DeceasedCrab's reports so I figured why not give mine some music too!
- Let me start off by saying that Myself, Kirito1696 , and RYANTHEDRAGON98 made a 2 and a half hour drive to come to this tournament! So this was like a mini road trip for us and it was really fun! Plenty of Memes and good conversations to be shared. Then of course a lot of reflecting on tournament events on the drive home.
- We had 12 participants, meaning 2 blocks of round robin with each group getting 5 rounds. Surprisingly all 12 players that were registered showed up, and no one extra showed up. So that meant Garishi was able to set up the tournament really fast by just copying the player list straight into challonge and setting up the groups. Not bad for a first tournament!
- We started at 12:00. It went until 2:22! Meaning this tournament went by super fast! I helped Garishi with calling out matches and we had 5 people there with enough experience to judge, allowing us to just keep matches going.
- I'm really glad Garrishi rented out a room in a library for the event because IT WAS COLD! Having indoor tournaments is just much more manageable weather wise than a park.
- Surprisingly I didn't see any fake parts today, even though half of the bladers were new, young bladers to a WBO Tournament. I had brought a bag of spare parts just incase someone had fake Beyblades so they would still be able to play.
- On a side note, Bearing Drift has really changed the meta from before its release. Before you would see a lot of Dynamite, and Vanish on Bearing' and High Xtend+'. But now because of Bearing Drift almost all left spin stamina has been completely taken out of the meta. I feel bad for the Burst blade from the B-205 VS set for not getting a chance to shine. It's pretty good for opposite spin but because of the way the Meta has shaped up it's not super good against the Wind Blade, and that is the Blade you really need to think about when making a combo.
- This was Single Bey or 1on1 format. That means everyone prepared a single Beyblade each round to use. Before I get into my rounds I want to talk about the one thing that was upsetting for me today. My launcher. That's right, when my first round was called I realized I didn't grab my container with the 2 Cyber DB launchers that I normally used, and all I had was the launcher from the Fusion DX set on me. Now it's no secret that the launchers from the Fusion DX set have pretty poor quality control from Takara Tomy and mine was no exception. On the second battle of round 1 I pulled my ripcord and I just heard the sound of the spring in my launcher losing it's tension. Luckily I was able to borrow a replacement for the match. So then I spend a few minutes with my tool kit trying to repair my launcher. It failed. Luckily Garishi had an extra launcher for me to use for the rest of the day! Thanks again buddy! Anyway, back to the combos! For me the main combo I used through the first stage was Wind Perseus Illegal Bearing Drift -9. It won me 2 rounds against Eevee2014 and DarkInferno with quick 3-0 sweeps. However, I did lose with it against Fire blader07. I also decided to use a Wind Xcalibur Illegal High Xtend+' -9 against Jellybean24 who was using Wind Lucifer, I think Illegal though it may have been Over, Bearing Drift -9 and it did really well, and got me the win! And Finally during the Group Stage I used Guilty Longinus Fortress Xtreme' -4 against Garishi who was using Dynamite Perseus (F Gear) Illegal Bearing Drift -9 and I was rewarded with some quick KOs. Ultimately I went 4 wins and 1 loss, so by the end of the Group Stage I landing second in the group A bracket, with Fire blader07 coming in 1st, also with 4 wins and 1 loss. But because he beat me in the group stage he has the tiebreaker over me to solidify his 1st place!
- Anyway when it came to the top cut we of course moved to the WBO Deck Match Type format instead of Single Bey. So I decided to use the same deck that I did at my tournament 2 weeks ago "Maryland Climbs up the Rankings" where I got 1st place, you can check out the winning combos thread for my deck list here. I did however, make one slight change. I changed the Wind Lucifer Illegal Bearing Drift -9 combo to Dynamite Perseus (F Gear) Illegal Bearing Drift -9, just to see if it would balance out better. I wound up playing against my good friend, BeybladeBlast11 who went undefeated in his bracket. Honestly he was my toughest opponent for the day. He played a deck consisting of Vanish Longinus Over High Xtend+' -0, Dynamite Perseus (F Gear) Illegal bearing Drift -9, and World Spriggan Wheel Metal Drift 1S (Left Spin). A pretty strong deck for the current meta except for the Vanish blade not really doing well in the current meta, as I stated above. Anyway we played a back and forth game where if I had to choose first I would use Guilty, and because of my Guilty when he would have to choose first he would have no choice but to go to his Dynamite. Thus making my decision to use World very easy. (The World combo right now is super strong against opposite spin match ups even with Bearing Drift being in the meta.) It went back and forth that way until we hit 4 points each. I was the one picking first for the last point battle so of course I went with Guilty. Well my Guilty got in a few good hits at the start against his Dynamite, but then lost its flower pattern and started to tornado stall. Now normally this is a good indication that the Guilty will lose as unlike Xiphoid it doesn't really do many smash attacks, but accels in upper attacks, so most of its KOs come within the first couple of hits. I was already starting to congratulate Beybladeblast11 on his win here when out of nowhere my guilty clipped his Dynamite and Smashed it into the pocket for the winning point! Honestly that win was more luck than anything, but I will take it! Fun battle Blast!
- Next we did the 3rd place match first so everyone could watch the finals. Beybladeblast11 was against my other good friend Kirito1696 and Beybladeblast11 pulled out the win with a quick 5-1 match! So congratulations Beybladeblast11 on your 3rd place victory! Finally what everyone was waiting to see! We had the Finals between Myself and Fire blader07! Now I don't get to play against Bladers from North Carolina often so I am completely unfamiliar with his style of Blading, and it spooked me a little. We both showed eachother our decks and to my surprise Fire blader07 was playing TRIPPLE DRIFT! He had Dynamite Perseus (F Gear) Illegal Bearing Drift -9, Greatest Raphael Moon Metal Drift, and World Spriggan Spread' Drift 1S. Well as for me I didn't change anything in my deck from the previous match with Beybladeblast11, so my strategy was the same. I started with Guilty and next thing I knew it was already 2-0 in my favor. I remember his Dynamite getting an out spin against my Guilty once and my World getting an out spin against his Dynamite that he switched to high-mode. (Which was a good call for the opposite spin match up.) Then right back to Guilty getting more KOs and winning me the tournament!
- At the end of the day we had Myself in 1st which landed me a spiffy new toolbox for my Beyblade parts, Fire blader07 in 2nd, Beybladeblast11 in 3rd, and last but not least Kirito1696 in 4th! This was a really fun tournament and it ran really smoothly! Great job again Garishi! I can't wait for the next tournament you host that I can come to!
