Maybe?  In all honesty Mitchjett and I both used dragon because red/white/blue and July 4.

Oh ok.

Overall this event was my first foray into the world of GT Format, where Driger V2 makes for a terrifying destabilizer on Hasbro Tapered, where S Gear is for some reason still legal and easily makes the heaviest disk in the game, and where Friedpasta was the only one I saw all day that actually swapped out the DiabolosII chip for something other than stock.

I know Ginga also brought a Zwei Longinus attacker, but until I can confirm whether it won a point I'm leaving it off the list, because I don't remember it ever being chosen at all, just brought along for the ride.

It was a wild ride, that's for certain.

I see you haven't heard about Tornado Stallers. The whole point is that Metal Flat has incredibly high Stamina despite its movement so you can potentially outspin Meteo L-Drago combos without ever making contact, still have a good chance against pure Stamina anyways, and potentially outrun slower attackers. There's a few different ways to make stallers, but Phantom is one that works out rather well due to its raw Stamina potential.

You avoid low height scraping because Metal Flat is taller than the average tip, not that everything at low heights is scrape prone anyways.

Thanks for the heads up. I've not seen one in Burst in ages and likely forgot as a result.

Driger v2 tp is a Beast. Also legal in BSL.

Nx-Q+S is around the same weight as 00E depending on part variation. It's heavy but very much a GT weight part - and kinda difficult to use well. Here's the wiki weights:

Nx-Q: 24.3g
S Gear: 4.3g
Total: 28.6g

00: 25.2g
Expand: 3.4g
Total: 28.6g

A couple of the GT discs also hover around the same weight.

Convert: 28.8g
Sting: 28.7g
Blitz: 28.6g

Maybe you get lucky with Nx-Q variation as Hasbro weight variation in QD is significant, but I don't think it's a problematic part for GT.

There were guilty and savior users as well, but they just didn’t make top 3.  Guilty was in the 4th place players’s deck all day. I don’t think there is a stadium specific reason.

Nah, it's just got a weak spring in general. For what it's worth, the combo was on Dynamite + F and Kerbeus, so it probably didn't suffer from burst resistance issues.

We’ve got at 3 copies of Qt and none seem to be unusually weak. Nothing like OG Bearing at least. Kerbeus definitely helps mitigate the burst risk but it’s done fine on Perseus & Belial 1 too.

@th!nk it was a beast in same-spin. Easily beating Nv, HXt+’ & Br’ in the tournament.

Both of mine are weak springs, though you're not the first to claim to have a Quattro with normal spring locks. They seem to exist, though they're not particularly common? You've gotten really lucky to not just get one, but three like that.

Bearing/Iron weak, yes. Both of mine act like their springs, but since the base is so heavy it's also kinda like putting that spring on Planet? I dunno, it really seems to necessitate a burst stopper of some kind to hold together for me on nearly anything that isn't by default super burst resistant.

All I can say is "part variation". I'm far from the only one that has these issues, and I've seen one personally with a spring lock stronger than both of my own copies.

There's definitely variance here, and it means that most of them are worse than yours.

This was Toronto’s first ever event using the 5G Match Type. I had been wanting to try it out ever since first trying it in Japan back in 2020 when it was introduced by the WBBA.

What I realized going into this event was that the rules really promote safety for the first few rounds given that KOs are worth two points. As such, my choices revolved around as much safety as possible for the first three picks. Then, the last two picks became progressively more risky because it is at that point where the score is likely to be at 2-1 or 2-2 anyways, so you have nothing to lose and have likely already exhausted most of your top, top tier stamina/defense combo choices.

That being said, certainly you can catch people off-guard in the first few battles too with an attack type; you just put yourself at risk at the same time. But if you’re confident it will work. That’s why I lost against Rew Rose; he scored a KO with Guilty versus my Astral in the first round. I battled back, but lost 3-2 ultimately.

I enjoyed the intensity manufactured by the danger of the two point KO in a three point match, even in stamina matches. It places so much emphasis on preparation and ensuring your launching skills instinctually are top class. And I enjoyed being able to see spin direction as an option for this format; it’s just not overpowered in the same way it is in the 1on1 Match Type.

One of the things we debated after this event was whether to make any adjustments to the rules for BEYBLADE NORTH 2022 Sunday event which will also be using 5G. Ultimately, I’ve decided to try running 5G to five points at BEYBLADE NORTH 2022 as I am still in a phase where I’d like to experiment. But I’m not convinced yet that it will be the ‘best’ way to run the match type. Another way we discussed was running it to 3 points, but lowering the value of KOs to 1 point. It will probably come down to personal preference as they each evoke the consideration of a slightly different strategy.
Interesting observations on 5G. It seems like a cool if not super accessible format. I will wait patiently on how the 5 point result goes.

Does it? Or are only people with weak springs noticing and talking about it. The difference in numbers between mostly normal and weak springs isn't that huge.
