Spryzen S2 Testing & Discussion
Spryzen S2 is one of the several Energy Layers that was buffed by Hasbro - while the Takara Tomy version's potential in Attack was ruined by its awful teeth, the Hasbro version has greatly increased its burst resistance, meaning it may now be useful as an attacker.
Testing equipment/conditions/etc.
- B-08 Mold 1 Burst Stadium
- String Launcher used for everything except S2HS, which was launched with the Sword Launcher
- Attacker always launched second, KO & Mixed Attack always Sliding Shot, Burst Attack straight shot
- Variable is at the first stage of woke-ness (worn to be even with the outer ring of spikes)
- Weird disk choice on Hasbros is just whatever fits tightest for me while also not sucking (Jerk is somehow my tightest disk on most Hasbro combos)
- Neptune has seen over a year of heavy use, so it's a bit worn
- Revolve & Atomic Sliding Shot vs. KO/Mixed Attack, Atomic stalled vs Burst Attack
Spryzen S2 as a KO Attacker
Spryzen S2 Gravity Variable vs. Neptune Yell Revolve
S2.G.V: 9 wins (8 KO, 1 Burst)
N.Y.R: 11 wins (2 KO, 1 Burst, 8 OS)
S2.G.V win rate: 45%
Not too shabby, but a lot of recoil (both of Neptune's KOs were from S2's recoil). It feels a lot less sluggish than Valtyrek V2 to say the least.
Spryzen S2 Gravity Variable vs. Blaze Ragnaruk 4Glaive Atomic
S2.G.V: 5 wins (4 KO, 1 Burst)
bR.4G.At: 15 wins (3 KO, 11 Burst, 1 OS)
2 ties redone
S2.G.V win rate: 25%
Not nearly as one sided as these results make it seem - while bR does have a moderate amount of Burst Attack itself, more often than not, when bR would burst S2, it would be on its last tooth. If I had used a tighter Disk or a less self-burst-prone Driver than Variable it could have easily gone the other way. Which prompted me to try
Spryzen S2 as a Burst Attacker
Spryzen S2 Heavy Survive vs. Blaze Ragnaruk 4Glaive Atomic
S2.H.S: 6 wins (5 Burst, 1 OS)
bR.4G.At: 14 wins (1 Burst, 13 OS)
3 ties redone
S2.H.S win rate: 30%
This wasn't a very well thought out test looking back. It was mostly Atomic doing the work avoiding S2 for as long as possible, so I didn't really get a good measurement of how S2 stacked up Burst Attack wise. S2's one OS came from when bR happened upon the flat part of Atomic and spun out (thats what i get for buying a $7 loose atomic on yja i guess).
Spryzen S2 as a Mixed Attacker
Spryzen S2 Gravity Accel vs. blaze Ragnaruk 4Glaive Atomic
S2.G.A: 12 wins (6 KO, 4 Burst, 2 OS)
bR.4G.At: 8 wins (1 KO, 3 Burst, 4 OS)
1 tie redone
S2.G.A win rate: 60%
Not much to say about this combo except that I really liked it - I think Spryzen S2 might even be a better Mixed Attacker than Zillion Zeus. The 2 OSes came from the flat part of my Atomic again.
Benchmarks
Victory Valkyrie Knuckle Xtreme vs. Neptune Yell Revolve
V2.K.X: 13 wins (11 KO, 2 Burst)
N.Y.R: 7 wins (3 Burst, 4 OS)
V2.K.X win rate: 65%
Victory Valkyrie Knuckle Xtreme vs. Blaze Ragnaruk 4Glaive Atomic
V2.K.X: 9 wins (all KO)
bR.4G.At: 11 wins (3 Burst, 8 OS)
2 ties redone
V2.K.X win rate: 45%
despite what happened the last time i tried to use it in a tournament i'm good with v2 i swear
Valtyrek 2Cross Accel vs. blaze Ragnaruk 4Glaive Atomic
V.2C.A: 4 wins (2 KO, 2 Burst)
bR.4G.At: 16 wins (1 KO, 10 Burst, 5 OS)
1 tie redone
V.2C.A win rate: 20%
Starting to think Valkyrie/Valtyrek is outclassed for KO/Mixed Attack. It's been almost a year since I've used a mint Valkyrie but at least in Valtyrek's case its rotational recoil definitely seems to be more than it can handle against a lot of the smoother, stronger toothed God Beys.
So overall Spryzen S2 has a good amount of KO Attack and a averageish amount of Burst Attack, so where I've found it really shines is on a Mixed Attacker - you can launch as hard as you want to get the most RPM to burst things without worrying about Variable self-KOing or self-bursting, while S2's oval shape provides most of the KOing power.
