7:34AM Hideo Kojima envisions using the exact same game on the PS3 and the NGP. You play the game on your PS3 at home, and out and about you play the same game and same save on your NGP. A beautiful dream, indeed. "This dream is going to come true in the near future, and right now I'm working on this project. There is no PSP Phone, just really poor editors for tech blogs. That phone in question is the Sony Ericsson Z1 Xperia Play, it runs a subplatform called PlayStation Suite (which runs on Androids Tablets, Phones, and this NGP). That's likely to get a full reveal in a few weeks.

Both will likely be this year in some territories.

It does not take UMD. PSP backwards compatibility has been confirmed to be handled via PSN downloads. This was demoed with Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, where the player was using both analog sticks to play.

Edit: Kojima confirmed a new title to be revealed at E3, but demoed MGS4 on the platform. It finally has trophies... lol

I suspect Sony will go for $299, since I don't think they want to be $100 more than Nintendo again. Nor do they want to price themselves out for a few years. Sony has just said it will be an "an affordable price that's appropriate for the handheld gaming space". I assume second job inducing pricing models won't be appropriate for the space.

They've also confirmed that it will be sold in versions with 3G, and versions without.

Eurogamer reports battery life is 4-5 hours, exactly the same as the 3DS, and that they're hoping to hit 6-8 hours. I'm not sure how much credibility I'd put into that this early.

The specs and the announcement were really impressive. I'd actually been waiting all week for this, and it hasn't disappointed me in the slightest. Particularly impressed by the rear touchpads; I've yet to see the videos of this in action, but the possibilities are really exciting.

I was downbeat when I heard this figure for the 3DS, but this time frame for this far more powerful device doesn't sound too bad to me.

The Playstation Suite ... what a huge, huge announcement. I'd love to see this succeed in a big way. Incredible.

However, my one concern about this is its relatively similar appearance and form to the PSP. I don't think it does enough to differentiate itself between its predecessor in terms of aesthetics. But other than that, this is a seriously cool announcement, and as you can see by my hyperbolic language, I'm genuinely excited.

The specs and the announcement were really impressive. I'd actually been waiting all week for this, and it hasn't disappointed me in the slightest. Particularly impressed by the rear touchpads; I've yet to see the videos of this in action, but the possibilities are really exciting.

Little Deviants was demoed. It's a game that almost relies exclusively on the trackpad, and it looks quite cool. They managed to combine the two touch inputs for a nice elastic move. You can see that demo here. The touchpad was also used in the Uncharted demo to climb on something, with the gyroscope being used to swing Drake back and forth when on a vine. If those things annoy you, they can be turned off and mapped to the buttons and sticks.

Game Informer had a hands-on with the thing, and they said it feels insanely comfortable to hold, and that the sticks are what you'd expect from a 360 or PS3 controller. Oddly though, they said the thing weighed almost as light as a PSPgo, which astounds me given that the NGP is actually longer than a UMD PSP of today. (it's size is the major thing I'm afraid about)

Suite can be huge for them if they handle it properly since the market for Android phones and tablets will only grow in the future. It's also nice that it's NGP compatible, since it'll offer a bunch of those pick up and play games people said the PSP severely lacked.

Yes, there will be games that are NGP only, and there will still be PSP games. But the amount of PSP games isn't a large one anymore.

okay, actually, i've decided against this since we really don't need another console debate on this thread, but still, you should really keep your closed minded opinions to yourself in future.

I read bout this on VideoGamesBlogger. It should've remained PSP2 in my opinion.

NGP is simply an in development name like Project Natal, Revolution, and Dolphin were in the past. Sony may not want the PSP2 vs. the 3DS so they may go an alternative route like what Microsoft did with the Xbox 360.

Sorry, us Nintendo fans have a reputation for being defensive when it comes to similar looking consoles/controllers. If you were mentioning the analogue stick about the 3DS borrowing from the PSP, I just wanna say, that it's not an analogue stick it's a Cycloid, and was on the NES max controller years back.

Unless Nintendo is using some really outdated tech design, it shouldn't be that Cycloid thing at all. It's a digital analog nub (they call it "slidepad"). A single digital analog nub.

Yeah, I honestly prefer a slide pad or cycloid to an analogue stick, helps me keep my hads pasted to the console, anyway, the best thing that's coming from this is the android integration, at least that'l benefit me, I think.

As someone who's used the PSP for years with its nub, or slidepad it is really not a great thing. It works, but it just doesn't feel like an analog stick should.
