Actually it proves critics don't even agree with you, Iron Man 2 in general is not concidered better than the original, and that there are two Alien sequels that weren't concidered BETTER THAN the original which was your entire arguement. Just because you spout carp that you believe doesn't mean it's true. If you had said in YOUR opinion you would have had a point, but according to most critics including Ebert you are dead wrong. BTW Alien 3 only had one Xenomorph in it, and AVP:R had more Xenomorphs than both the original Alien and AVP, but it clearly wasn't better so obviously even your logic is skewed.
It's not considered better than the original because critics, and generally everyone in our era automatically thinks realism = good unless it's animated, or obviously directed at a young demographic.
The
only reason why the original SEEMED better was because a) they toned down the action to seem more "realistic" b) the plot/characters/villains all tied in with current events/terrorism which again made it seem more "realistic" c) there was less comedy/quirky moments. (realism)
Do you see a pattern here? (But 10 times better is a stretch, I'd say they were pretty much the same with the 2nd movie having a little more entertainment-flare)
As for the Alien franchise. Actually I agree the first movie
is arguably the best in terms of script/writing. In visual direction and cinematography? Its severally lacking by todays standards.
But that's if you're limiting the genre to Horror/Scifi
Broaden it up to Horro/Scifi/Action and the 2nd movie was better in a lot of ways. The visual design was more developed, the premise was a more enticing, and just overall the movie had a much higher energy of thrill and enjoyment.
3rd is up for debate, went back to Horror/Scifi roots.
4th, general consensus was that its bad.
ANYWAY.
I saw The A-Team.
You wouldn't think it was bad if you actually saw how lame the original series was. It actually felt spot on, retaining the ridiculous over-the-top cheesiness of the 1980's series.
