Making a meta team still is hard IMO. It's one thing having the right pokes the endt having an actually have decent team with good synergy. I mean I play pretty competitively and barely go with a smogon set in late development in my teams.
General Competitive Pokemon Topic

Sure, you will lose eventually, but that's all part of battling. I hate it when smogon tells people what Pokemon is good. I also hate it when they say "this Pokemon is useless and has no competitive use" every Pokemon can be useful in some way. I feel like some people think that battling is just a bunch of numbers...
Well, in reality, it is. If I wanted I could have a calculator with every algorithm the game uses, and could actually plug In Numbers to predict the chances of any situation. Since he game works on a semi complex algorithm it wouldn't have 100 percent certainty, but it would still give me an idea for the nest possible action.
But I agree, no Pokemon in the game is useless, in their respective format that is. I use Pokemon from every format and can say that ubers isn't fun, everything is just Ohko's and usually the first perso. To ok will sweep the rest of your team. I like uu to be honest, though my team is ou. But I do use my favorite Pokemon in all my teams, sylveon is not only good, it is the cutest thing ever. I'm just lucky that most of my favorites are decent, and that is what my team is, just my favorite Pokemon, with decent stats.

Yes, but you still have a basic guideline, I remember one ubers team I used only had two ubers on it, everything else was just a sword dancer or shell smasher with baton pass, and I would baton pass with focus sashes to my xerneasand I would just use moonbeam, and if some one had a ferrothorne, or steel arches they would catch a hidden power fire to the face.
Sorry meant calm minders, not swords dance. Lol
Well can someone give me some useful Pokemon to try to get? I'll work on the move set myself.

Well first you should start by iv breeding, this may take a while, but it is worth it In tHe end. But you should think of different strategies, and what Pokemon work with them, weather teams are very good for beginners who know what they are doing. And then Check out ev stat yields and get your leveling done that way, for example if you are making a special defensive tank, you have to kill a carp ton of swablus and altaria. Sorry for triple post, just wanted to respond to all of you.
Ubers is pretty stalky anyway, hazards are a nightmare to most things, plus ferrothorn is one of the most useful pokes in ubers IMO.
It's hard to give a poke without moveset. Like empoleon can do abit of everything haha. I'd say star with chancey since it's pretty damn solid on a lot of teams

There are many factors that determine a "useful Pokemon" so this is the most vague question ever. Literally every Pokemon has a use, even magikarp, but the uses are needed based on the team and tier.
This may seem like a noob question, but: How do I IV breed? XD
Can you give me some requested team techniques? Personally, I don't want a bunch of Physical/Special Sweepers.

Well if you don't want sweepers and you want to tank you should use sylveon, ferrothorn, tentacruel Latias, and have a garchomp or Dragonite and another sweeper with special attack of your choice, I use chandelure.
Iv breeding isn't an well known process, nor an easy one. It requires that you go to a certain place I. Pokemon y and show him the Pokemon and he will tell you how good it is.
Then you take the best one from a litter of ten and breed it with the mother if it is male, or the father if it is female, or for faster results breed with a ditto holding a destiny knot, and repeat this prices until the man I mentioned say " this is a superb Pokemon" meaning it has atleast two stats with 29-31 ivs.
Sorry but that's a vague question again. There's offensive and defensive team and stuff but your technique and strategy changes every team you verse.
Check out marrilands iv guide it's the best I've found or shofus video.
Oh yeah and almost all teams have a sweeper, even defensive stall teams utilise a sweeper to pick off weakened pokes.

Chandelure sounds like a good idea. But I have no idea how to get a Latias, nor do I think Tentacruel is very good.
Great thanks! But where would that place be?
Edit: I meant not all sweepers. I may use two Bulky Sweepers.

Too late I already gave him my toxic spikes team, if he can't figure out the move set, then he can ask me. Later
Hmmm haven't tried tentacruel this gen was unreal last gen though. Google it, it's pretty easy to find.
Battling isn't what it used to be...When Pokemon first came out, people actually had strategies.Today,it's just a bunch of random attacks and pure luck.
Tentacruel should have protect scald toxic and sludge bomb, and have all evs put Into defense/special attack and special defense .
Hardly, I'd say the games more competitive now more than ever.

Now the strategies are very complex, with multiple fail safes and methods. Some people even have a slow sashed exploder to blow up garchomp and excadrills.

I think it's the other way around, haha.
Okay, I'm willing to give this a try: Ferrothorn, Sylveon, Chandelure, and Tentacruel. But I'm iffy on Sylveon, I've never actually seen it used. I'll determine two other Pokemon.
I was thinking Greninja.
Not hypno really and defiantly tauros
The sylveon build I am talking about specifically, has a problem. . . Getting KOed. It has rest sleeptalk hyper beam and wish, with the ability pixilated, with all evs pumped like heroin into special defense and normal defense. Her hyper beam will WRECK any dragon type. And when ferrothorne comes out, you just switch to chandelure, and make a threat. Sylveon is only good because so many people use dragons.
It has to be protean greninja, so you can get stab on any move

Is there any Defensey Mega Pokemon that are actually useful?
(Aug. 07, 2014 3:36 PM)Echizen Wrote: Is there any Defensey Mega Pokemon that are actually useful?
Mega venusaur, he has thick fat which give him no real weakness, and already high defense stats.
Edit: it may be more beneficial to use frilish over tentacruel, it just depends on what you are train to do with the slot, frilish wil punish attackers, and tentacruel will stall out your opponents team. Do which ever you want
Decided to try out my team on Showdown: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-149610666
Greninja is a boss.
Greninja is a boss.
Not bad, you did very good, though your opponents team was, pretty bad, I didn't even think he had a strategy.

Cotton Guard Mega Ampharos and Mega Aggron for defense, and possibly Mega Gardevoir for Sp.D. Mixed I guess would be mega Venasaur and Mega Tyranitar (with sand stream).
Edit: maybe not gardevoir since it's a bit frail .. But still decent.
@ King K.Streak:
X/Y's goal was to make it easier to battle competitively, and they have done that by implementing the updated breeding techniques, ev horde training, super training, etc.. So how would it be a "bunch of random attacks and pure luck"?
