Beywiki Updates - Fact Dépôt + Project of the Moment + Archive Sub-Forum

Yo World Bladers!

Practically five years on, and Beywiki still isn't that advanced!! What sorcery is this?!

The knowledge is in all of us already though, so we've just got to unite everyone to complete the Beywiki Project as much as we can. With some luck, perhaps we'll be finished before October, Beywiki's actual five-year anniversary!

To help us all in this adventure, we've decided to implement a few new ideas that will hopefully make the BeySpirit inside each of you flare with new life, with the thought of being able to provide the best information center for all Bladers around the world!

Fact Dépôt topic
Hey, it's not necessarily everyone who can write articles, due to not actually owning the Beyblades, or because their English is not perfect, and even those who can write articles for Beywiki might not know where to start or exactly what to include.

For these reasons, we're opening the Fact Dépôt thread! This topic will have the purpose of collecting useful information about any type of Beyblade or Beyblade product, whether it's a recolour from the WBBA we must not forget to add, or a comment to say that this or that part has been proven to do well in Attack/Defense/Stamina/Balance. For more information, make sure to check the thread!

Projects of the Moment
Working everywhere at the same time, not knowing where to focus, and doing so without a deadline in mind isn't good for anyone!

To help shape up the Beywiki contributions even more, let's introduce Projects of the Moment! Like assignments for the whole Beyblade community, each project will have a different subject, with a varying deadline between two and three weeks depending on what the task is. By the end of all projects, we'll surely be many steps closer to having a complete Beywiki!

The first Project of the Moment to start off is: Let's shoot all those recolors! We must add photographs of all the recolors listed on Beywiki before September 20th. Read the topic for this project to know exactly which recolours are missing photos. We've got to hurry! Dance for the Sol Blaze to shine and give you good light for your photographs!

The second Project of the Moment is: Make the Stadiums articles burst! In four weeks, we must publish articles for all the stadiums! Read the topic for this project for more details.

The third Project of the Moment is up: Measurement Freaks! Within two weeks, we need to add as many measurements of Beyblade parts onto Beywiki as possible, but we're positive we'll be able to go very close to 100%! For more details, visit this topic.

Approved Drafts Sub-Forum
This addition is mostly administrative because it gets really dizzying to look through all the drafts to catch one that is not already published on Beywiki. However, this'll help all of our Members see which drafts really need to be worked on because they are the only ones left. I dream that one day we'll have an empty Beywiki Project forum only waiting for drafts on the very latest Beyblade releases!!

For the moment, threads in this sub-forum will remain open. This way, if you think an article needs to be rewritten to reflect the information of the current metagame rather than the old situation, you can post a notification in the topic for the old draft, and if it's a substantial and big edit that has to be done, then we'll consider creating a new thread in the main Beywiki Project forum.

In addition, we've decided to give th!nk temporary editing and approving powers on Beywiki for plastics matters, which could definitely become permanent! That guy knows his stuff on plastics, so there's got to be a way this knowledge can be compatible with Beywiki on a greater level!

With all these new ways to contribute to the Beywiki Project, Faces like the Peridot Face [Image: peridotface.png] and the Lapis Lazuli Face [Image: lapislazuliface.png] are only as far away from your profile as you let them be! Because yes, there are now plenty of other ways to help with Beywiki besides actually writing drafts. The hype is now, the hype is us! Let's make the tri-headed logo really proud!

Thanks to all of you in advance!!
Ahh, was wondering when this would come along. I'm sure the more attentive members have noticed me running around and doing stuff, though I've not been going as fast as I'd like (especially in terms of actually approving articles), things are only going to improve once the tidying up is out of the way, and now my busy month IRL is basically over, I should really be able to sit down and focus all of my attention on beywiki.
I only really have powers over plastics (unless things have changed in which case I'm cool with that, though I think it's under control right now thanks to Kai-V's work) for what should be fairly obvious reasons, they're definitely my speciality, haha, and there's a whole lot to do on beywiki for that generation, right now there's no reliable source for newcomers to learn about plastics, and this is my big chance to change that.

I really appreciate the chance to help out, I have always been very focussed on helping people to learn and understand beyblades, so the beywiki project is somewhat of a "Natural Fit" for me. It's always been very close to my heart, and I greatly appreciate the committee recognising that I can offer a lot to the project. So, uh, thanks.

As for the rest of the announcement: Facts Depot is an absolutely awesome idea, along with Project of the Moment. Photography is something we certainly need a lot more people to help out with on beywiki, and there are a lot of people out there who have massive collections and great photography skills, and it'd be awesome to see them help out with beywiki's visual side more often.
The Approved Drafts SubForum is a great idea - and I'm definitely of the opinion threads in it should be kept open. Considering that even the ancient plastics series goes through great upheavals as new things are found even without new parts being introduced, the MFB side of things, with new parts being introduced at a steady rate, definitely requires updating. This will also help with clutter, which is great - sifting through all those threads really isn't easy!

Nice to see the Beywiki project, upon which this community was founded, get some extra love. Smile

Speaking of the tri-headed logo, I should really finish my Burning Kerberous rewrite already, haha. Amusingly, the AR is much better than the article makes out.
I do have a few recolors that Beywiki is missing. Ill try to have some pics up by the weekend.
Nice!

A big problem with me writing articles was that I often didn't have the beyblade itself, though I had knowledge about it (ex: Aero Knight MS). Another big thing was a certain user posted articles as soon as he got the Beyblade, whether they were even good quality or not.

I'll certainly try to contribute more when I can escape the rigors of high school!
Sorry to undermine this but I feel it needs to be mentioned. A reasonable portion (23) of the articles currently up have no galleries at all. As much as I love recolours this should be a greater priority than taking pictures of them. Also a large number of the other versions sections on articles (mainly for plastics) aren't as complete as they could/should be. Other than that i'm glad you guys are taking steps to get the wiki back on track.
I suspect that will be dealt with in a future Project Of The Moment. That's a fairly small number compared to the number of recolors missing, and as far as I'm aware (i.e. this might be wrong) a lot of those totally missing pictures are plastics/hms or rare MFB. I think it's an appropriate choice to kick the Project of the Moment thing off.
We have a whole list of future Projects of the Moment. It is not always about what is more "pressing", considering that each project does not last many months anyway.
This will encourage me to write more articles. Thank you.
I know I'm a Beyblade Wiki(a) admin, but I'm willing to help if needed.

I do have one concern; Beywiki is running MediaWiki 1.11, which is unsupported as of...four years ago? By updating to MediaWiki 1.20 (the current version), Beywiki should run faster and you'll have access to more features.

Of course, that's just me.
Glad to see this announcement come up! Firstly, congrats to th!nk; I have a feeling that the process of approving articles will be much faster with you in charge. Wink

I've been attempting to put together as many good, solid drafts as possible, and I hope to continue that. I've got a couple in the works right now, so hopefully I can help this project advance. Smile

The only thing holding me (and some others) back is, as Ga said, a certain user making drafts for Beyblades as soon as he got them/as soon as they were released. I personally think there should be some sort of rule to prevent this, whether it be the removal of the 'one draft per article' rule, or a limit to how quickly you can make a draft, because this prevented a bunch of people from making 4D drafts.
The rule is "one thread per article", so just because there's a draft thread up doesn't mean you can't post a completely new draft in the same thread if the current one isn't salvageable. It is best to be collaborative, but I agree that in this case it would generally be easier to start from scratch than try to rework those particular drafts, though you should still try to read them in case there's any information you're unaware of (as usually other users have also contributed to those drafts).
Good on you for getting everything back on order.
I would really like to contribute. what can i do for one of those faces?
that was bazookas post. sorry
So, how can i contribute? i want to collect a lot of faces to intimidate other people.
I have a pretty nice camera, so I can probably contribute some decent pictures.

Very willing to help wherever I can! Smile
Good thing I not to long ago wrote my first article! I'm so pumped! Thanks for the encouraging words Kai-V!
I would like to help too!
My English is horrible so I dont think I will be able to write any article but I can try to help around with the pictures for some of the beyblades.

Oh yes, Congrats th!nk.
I really like this concept. More contribution from knowledgeable players, and bam, we get some good articles. I like it!!
Honestly I'm always surprised how only a few people regularly contribute to Beywiki, it's like a lot of people aren't aware they can be a huge asset to the project. That's one of the best things about this announcement, as I'm already seeing in this thread, people are realising they are needed, are able to help. It'll be really nice to have more hands helping out around the place.
I am glad that somehow...Beywiki will not be too outdated...i really hope plastics and hms gets highly recognised by the whole community..haha..
Now..with lots of initiative is taken to improve beywiki...and with th!nk handling the wiki (congrats th!nk), lets improve the beywiki.. Wink

p/s:i hope i can contribute more to both the WBO and beywiki onwards..hahah
Just to clarify : th!nk has approval and editing powers for basically everything related to plastics articles and drafts. He prefers not to do HMS since it is not his absolute specialty, and Metal Fight Beyblade will still be assured by Kei and I.

Thanks for that clarification. Smile

Plastics keeps me very busy as it is (much more so than I think people would imagine), and me focussing on that should free up more time for Kai-V and Kei to handle the other things. I'll still pop in to help out with MFB and HMS like any other member, especially HMS as we're so close to completing that (barring some fact re-checking I'd like to have done) but as I said, only like any other member.
This update is fantastic, and it is soemthing alot of us have been wanting for some time Grin

th!nk, congratulations! I hope to see your name one day in blue. As always, you have my full support and aid for help with beywiki whenever I can be of use.
Should we post pictures in the fact depot thread?
