Hello,  I am just getting into Beyblades with my son and wanted to ask some advice.   I am a complete newb at this, but i have been looking up things and wanted to see what a good place to start is. 

I already got my son a Takara Tomy Xeno Excalibur and Takara Tomy Drain Fafnir.  For myself i got a Takara Tomy Nightmare Longinus and Takara Tomy Drain Fafnir.

I am not sure what customization packs i should get to make these Beyblades better, could anyone point me in the right direction of what to research or buy? 
Also, I was hearing that the Xeno Excalibur is not a good Layer.  Is there a better Excalibur Layer i should get? 

I was looking at the getting the Spriggan Requiem with the Beyblade Burst God Customization set for the 7 Bering Driver in the future.  Is it worth it, or should I look at other Beyblades instead?   Does this need another Disk to work well, or does the stock Disk work best in this set up?

Thanks for the info.  I wish I had understood that Xeno was outclassed by Sieg before i purchased it for my son ..... and that Fafnir has been outclassed by Spriggan.  

The links in your signature is helpful.  I have been worried that the Beyblades i ordered would end up being scams.

It's difficult to find because the best sellers don't seem interested due to the extra shipping costs from its size. You can find it alone as B-09 (white), B-33 (black), or some special releases. Otherwise, you can get it in a set such as B-107.
  

B-98 GCS has the Atomic driver in it, by the way. Drain Fafnir may make a comeback now that Spriggan Requiem is banned.

Best way to check for how to find parts is on the wiki. If you look up a specific part, it will list all the releases that have it.

I was on the fence about buying the God Customization Set, but after checking out the video I suppose I will be picking up two of those and two of the Spriggans.

TT is preferred by most competitive bladers. If you do get Hasbro parts, then remember that only forge disks (the metal part) and frames (used on the core disks) are interchangeable with TT and Hasbro. Drivers and layers are not cross compatible.

SO.. Much good info here. haha. As a competitive blader, Fox and motone hit the nail on the head. I only use TT myself.

Hasbro is easier to get if you can buy as it comes out, in-store or from somewhere like Entertainment Earth. Or if you have stores that carry old stock. Older parts online are expensive, increasingly so, due to lack of stock. TT prices are mostly stable, it's the best pick in the random boosters (the "prize" pull) that get rather expensive.

Overall, buying Hasbro late in the game online will probably work out to be more expensive than TT, and you will have to watch other people get the newer parts.

Hasbro made some changes to the molds. Some pieces end up worse or better than TT's. Some parts they never release, some parts they make of their own.

At the end of the day, you pick what side you want. You can get a bit of both if you really want. (Most people stick with one side or at least highly focus in one.) Just know that you can't mix drivers and layers, as already mentioned. The parts will become damaged, and they become illegal in WBO tournaments from even trying.

One other question if you dont mind.  I saw that the WBO is going to be having an event in Central Park, Manhattan on June 30th.   I was thinking about going and taking my two kids.  Is there anything I should prepare for in particular?   This would be our first Beyblade event.  I figure three Beyblades a person, launchers and whatever else we would normally take to the park would be sufficient.  Not sure if i am overlooking something. 

I saw that it is free play from 10:30 - 12:00, and that is when the tournament proper starts.    Would there still be arenas for more free play games for people who get bursted out of the competition quickly?

Each participant needs their own WBO account. You should be able to find any other information in the created thread for the event, and that would be a good place to ask questions.

Every tournament here is run and organized by volunteers, and what resources and support they have will affect how it is run, I'm sure.

Launch Patterns:

Bank Shoot - Angling your launcher at the same angle as the slope of the stadium. This can do many things depending on the driver/tip
Sliding/Rush Shoot - Tilt your launcher downwards toward the center. This makes the bey go towards the center and get a barrage attack in.
Normal Shoot - Don't angle the launch at all. This is the most basic launch.
Soft Shoot - Launching the bey softly, not pulling that hard on the string/ripcord/winder. This can make defense/stamina/balance types go toward the center quicker.
Hard Shoot - Launching the bey at max power, giving the best stamina and performance. The problem is when it goes toward the edge of the stadium, which risks getting a stadium-out.

Thanks for the info.   I originally skipped those WBO videos, since i figured the information was for the Metal series and wouldn't transfer over to Burst.  Watching them now, i can see how it is just generally good knowledge to have. 

The different launch patters make sense.  I will have to practice the different techniques with my kids once all the stuff arrives in the mail.

A hard launch will make your Beyblade easier to burst as well.
