Writing Tournament: Revival. *New Info Up* Second Round Under Way!!!

...Woah, that was really fast.
I just logged in today to see that I had 7 new PM's...all of which were people checking in. If I have my math still in order, that means everyone - including our judges - are all confirmed! FANTASTIC!

Okay, I'm actually in the middle of finals week right now, but come Friday I'll be able to post the topic and at least get you guys started.
OKAY! WHO'S READY TO START THIS THING? *Applause*

Alright, first, for the moment you've all been waiting for: The first round match ups!!

Here they are! (Click to View)
Now, looking as these match-ups, you may notice that in order for this to work, Temporal has to have another bye. This doesn't seem fair or fun to me, so I have a suggestion: why not have a three way battle? I'll need to confirm it with everyone who may end up in it, but if they deem it fair, then we can go with that. Otherwise, we'll figure out another solution (I'm not perfect - if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know).

And now, for the first round theme:
each person must write no more than a page, using your own creative ideas, to make a prologue/opening around the topic of (Click to View)
Okay, everyone: I need all entries to be turned in by July 8th at the absolute latest - meaning I'd prefer it sooner. Two days before the actual deadline, I will send a warning PM to anyone who I've not received an entry from. After midnight on the due-date, anyone who did not PM me or give me a medical excuse or other that is without an entry will be disqualified. Yes, this is a little extreme, but honestly, it's tiring to put up with. Guys, just don't forget to do it, please.

Last thing: I want to send a quick thank you to PenPad Forums: they gave me the idea to create this tournament, and may help judge or help out later on. If anyone is interested in joining this fantastic creative writing site, the link is here: http://s11.zetaboards.com/PenPad_forums/index/ Make an account today, and join the fun!
Awesome! Im starting my writing right away!

Question: can it be based off of something, like say Yugioh? (not going to necessarily do that, just a question)
Are we allowed to ask around for story prompts?

I like the idea, but why not use an actual tournament making website, like Challonge, so there's no mistakes? It's more organized, and shouldn't give anybody more then one bye (in our case of 13 people). Make a round robin or bracket like that? Seems simpler to me IMO.
I understand that the stories will be publicly available for anyone to read on the WBO, so I'm just wondering what the rating will be for content in a given story. I tend to lead towards more mature subtext & themes, so I figured it would probably be a good idea to ask haha
Sorry for such a dumb question, but what would the font size be?
I'd assume something like 14 or so. That was the max limit in the last tournament we had.
Temp is on the money: 15 size limit. Now, for your other questions:

Absolutely. As long as the content that you write is your own work, then you may base it off of anything. (although, I get the feeling judges tend to lean away from fanfiction so be careful!)

You mean ask for ideas? I'd rather everything be on your own with this tournament, so no. Besides, it's just easier to write about an idea that you come up with, as opposed to someone else's.

It can be pretty violent, and maybe a little bit of sexual content here and there, as long as you put a disclaimer at the top. The judges are all old enough to read anything really, so the disclaimer would be for the public.

Ah, so only an opening. That makes sense. Hopefully round two's theme will be different and we will not be required to continue the plot we introduced in the opening, haha.

Good luck everyone Smile
Thanks for answering! Sounds good, & if I do decide to go with the theme I've been considering, any more mature themes would be implicit. Can't wait to get started.
WHAT, I'm facing Insomniac.?? Good luck to me and everyone else, getting started on this now, and will work through with it for the next few days.
Finished my entry, but... It's so long! I've got to go rewrite it now, given the max is a page. Gah, this is harder than I thought.
There hasn't been much activity on this thread, I hope this doesn't mean that only a few entries have actually been submitted Unhappy

As for me, I've sent mine!

We've been urging for entries. Only a few have been turned in.

Also everyone, this is the last day to turn in entries! Better hurry up, everybody.
As of today, July 8th - the final day of entries - I have received a grand total of four.
That is slightly disappointing.

I'm hoping this is because everyone wanted the extra time, and not because people forgot. If I do not receive an entry tonight without a reasonable excuse as to why you can't turn it in, then I will be forced to disqualify you. To those who have turned in entries: thank you, and we will try to start the tournament ASAP.
Preparing to send mine now. I'm trying to cut it down to a single page. I really hope the single page limit is only for the prologue, and not the entire tournament. If so, I may be screwed...
I had to edit mine also, I just sent it to Sparta
Oh shoot. I will still send an entry, but I completely forgot about this. I had a hard time to what to write about because I didn't fully understand the theme.

I figured since it's a prologue, it doesn't need to be more than that. Depending on how things look, however, the rest of the rounds may be 2 or even 3. I don't want people to have to stretch anything though, because it's hard for creativity to be contained like that, but there should be a general size limit so one person doesn't have a paragraph and the other an essay.

Sorry, I had to make it general to give everyone some room. Your goal is to create a prologue to a story that somehow uses the idea of a "Fatal Error" take that to mean anything you want. You don't have to actually use the words in the story, so long as it's clear that there is one.
Okay. I sent mine in, but if I need to shorten it, I will. I tend to be pretty long-winded. Plus, I write on fairly small fonts, because it makes things easier. So if I turn in what I thought was two or three pages, it might be three of four. Regardless, at least the entry is in.
I sent mine in. Sorry I was late, I had some stuff to do for a funeral ;( So i didn't have much time.
Wait. This is only one prompt, right? We won't have to do more rounds with this topic or story, will we? Still writing mine, but it's pretty much just a one-shot & I don't think I can develop it any further...

Same with mine, haha!

I wish everyone good luck, and I hope to make it into the next round Tongue_out
Lol I really hope this is just a one time story...
If I can make the cut off, you'll be going up against me...I look forward to the challenge >Smile (having some difficulties with this prompt so far though) Also, does it have to be double spaced? I'm screwed if we have to double space it lol
