TyrannoRoar (Roar Tyranno) Testing and Discussion

With "Roar Tyranno" (aka "TyrannoRoar") now widely available in both Canada and the United States, I thought I'd start a testing thread for it. It's a Hasbro exclusive Blade based on the super popular meta Blade "PhoenixWing" ("Soar Phoenix"), so it'll probably have potential going forward.

Note: The tests below were done with 1 Blader, 10 rounds each, alternating launches, with a TT Xtreme Stadium and a TT String Launcher. The nature of single Blader testing means your mileage may vary in actual PvP matches.

My TyrannoRoar is mold 1 (no clear coat) and weighs 36.54 grams.

Overview:
Tyranno Roar is able to hit hard, however the Rush bit messes up its movement which does not allow it to hit at the right angle or speed that it wants to. The ideal launch is a slight tilt towards the pocket aiming to knockout the opponent right away. Tyranno Roar was also able to destabilize Wizard Rod in a few matches and came very close to outspinning it.

Overview:
Tyranno Roar is able to tank attacks fairly well due to the shape and heavy weight, as well as the added grip of the Rush bit. This allows it to stay in the stadium against powerful attackers such as Shark Edge to outspin them. It is also able to use the opponents recoil against them to knock them into one of the stadium exits.

Overview:
Tyranno Roar can hit decently hard, however it is weaker than more popular attack type blades. It is also able to destabilize Wizard Rod and was almost able to outspin it due to this during some rounds. Tyranno Roar has poor late game KO potential, so it should try to go for the KO as soon as possible
Thanks for making the thread! Tyranno Roar has been a staple part of my deck for the past month (with consistent top placements!)

I'll toss in some of my own testings as well :)

Tyranno Roar 1-60 Cyclone vs Wizard Rod 3-60 Ball
Left
Wizard Rod: 5 OS, 1 KO (60%)
Tyranno Roar: 4 KO (40%)

Right
Wizard Rod: 5 OS, 1 X (60%)
Tyranno Roar: 4 KO (40%)

Honestly not my favorite setup. Seems to do okay but Cyclone isn't aggressive enough for Tyranno Roar to pack a heavy enough punch on at a more consistent rate.

Tyranno Roar 1-60 Low Flat vs Wizard Rod 3-60 Ball
Left
Wizard Rod: 2 OS, 1 X (30%)
Tyranno Roar: 6 KO, 1 Burst (70%)

Right
Wizard Rod: 1 OS, 2 KO (42.8%)
Tyranno Roar: 3 KO, 1 X  (57.2%)

Tyranno decided it had enough and cracked my Wizard Rod blade. That's always fun. This setup definitely has more push than Cyclone which allows Tyranno to slam itself into opponents with enough power to actually execute over/xtreme finishes.

Aftermath View

Anywho, this is a fun little side testing that was just for fun. Personally I can say that the results did shock me quite a bit given that my own personal event results with Tyranno Roar have been rather excellent. It has me thinking quite a bit what the real correlation between testing and events could be. Or I'm just overthinking that haha. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Launch technique I used for Tyranno Roar aimed at utilizing the inner ridge to get as much coverage around the stadium as possible. Of course it didn't work 100% of the time.. Rod did not appreciate that here and there.

Overall I believe the blade is pretty good. It's placement in players decks will ultimately be up to how the player decides to approach the game. There seems to be potential to be a hard hitting hammer or any other utility role it may position itself in ways that PhoenixWing may not have been able to. I'm sure the community will find more setups for this unique blade as time goes on!  ^_^

Other Notes: My Tyranno Roar weighs in at 36.35g

Overview:
A surprisingly great combo brought to my attention by KIO. Tyranno Roar is able to destabilize Wizard Rod, enough so to outspin it which is incredibly impressive on a bit such as Hexa. This combo should be launched as hard as possible. Due to the high speeds this combo is launched at, it is capable of KOing Wizard Rod from the center of the stadium.

Overview:
Tyranno Roar on Hexa can be used to counter attack combinations such as Shark Edge 7-60LF by using a hard launch to generate a lot of recoil on impact, the huge hit can result in Tyranno Roar rebounding out of the pocket back into the stadium. However, this can backfire and the recoil can be used to send it into the pocket without enough force to bounce out. It can also use the huge recoil generated to knock out the opposing attack types, however this is unlikely to happen due to Hexa preferring to stay in the center of the stadium
Thanks for these tests both of you! A little lower than I expected but still solid potential I think, very excited for it to land here in Aus Smile
Roar Tyranno is a rather interesting blade. Being a couple grams lighter than Phoenix Wing, you’d think there’d be little to no reason to use it over Phoenix Wing. And you’d be correct! However, despite that… it’s still a pretty cool choice 😉

Wizard Rod: 40% (4 OS)
Roar Tyranno: 60% (3 KO, 3 OS)

Wizard Rod 3-60 Ball VS Roar Tyranno 3-60 Point
Wizard Rod: 50% (4 OS, 1 KO)
Roar Tyranno: 50% (2 Xtreme, 3 OS)

For a Hasbro reskin? Not bad! I personally wouldn’t use it over other attackers, but for triple dinosaur meme deck purposes, it does the job. Also, it’s worth noting that my Roar Tyranno is on the lighter end (we’re talking 35.8 grams). Oh well!

Perhaps I'll get around to posting testings as well. My TyrannoRoar is hovering around 36.0 grams.

If you wish to see the results you're free to do some testing yourself and add to the conversation. Testing has been done against WR3-60B, results between 3-60 and 3-70 are unlikely to be much different. But again, if you wish to confirm this, load up some launchers and get to spinnin
I've been playing around with a few different setups. From what I've seen so far, it's less aggressive than Phoenix wing but has more defensive properties. It's much smoother and a bit lighter. I've tried a few different attacks set ups and I find that it struggles to bite into other beys enough to get consistent OKs.

So far my most consistent combo is 5-70 hexa. It takes hits well. The stamina is decent. Ironically enough it works well but I'm not having fun with it. It feels like the most conservative option.

I've fooled around with 1-60 Gear Point. Its a fun combo but doesn't perform consistently. I'm thinking about giving high tapered a try too. I really want roar to feel strong.
With the release of Low Rush, it occurs to me that PhoenixWing 7-60R and TyrannoRoar 7-70LR can both be run a deck, with nearly identical performance. Running 7-70 on TyrannoRoar compensates for some of the weight difference, and has no detriment in terms of Burst Resistance.

Imagine getting absolutely dominated in the first round of a 3 on 3 by PW and choosing your second bey and you opponents second bey (TR) is almost exactly what you just fought 😭
My pool of competitive parts is tiny, but I must agree with Viewtiful Cush's take on Roar Tyranno. I've yet to document my findings - so take everything I say with a grain of salt - but I cannot shake the feeling that Roar Tyranno is concerningly inconsistent as an Attack-Type. I've found that 9-60 works best with the Blade, although this is a band-aid fix, despite their synergy providing a significant boost in attack power and Stamina via Balance Tuning.

As of writing, Roar Tyranno on Rush / Taper / Low Flat / Gear Flat consistently struggles to defeat the best performing combo in my collection: Tusk Mammoth 9-60T. For context, Mammoth is mostly balance tuned and is always launched first at an angle via the Soar Phoenix String Launcher. In this matchup, Roar Tyranno's most consistent losses occurred via a Survivor Finish, but it occasionally loses to Over and Xtreme Finishes. On the other hand, its rarest losses occurred via a Burst Finish, although Bursts are generally rare for both parties. By extension, these results also apply to Soar Phoenix, although its matchup against Tusk Mammoth is much more favorable due to the former's weight advantage.

Now, this isn't to say that Roar Tyranno is completely useless as an Attack-Type; but when its competition is a 39g Soar Phoenix mold, I consider it to be an objective downgrade. However, its with these findings that I imagine Roar Tyranno would better suited as a Balance-Type Blade, but I won't know for sure until I obtain the necessary parts to test such a theory.
We've had half a year for the Blade to kinda settle, and for now it seems like a second 3on3/WBO Deck option for people looking for an Attack Type Blade with a bit more Stamina. However, since most people aren't running double or triple Attack anyway, it's seldom used. It's much cheaper than the other much better alternative with similar traits (AeroPegasus), but that's about it.
Wow, I completely forgot that Roar Tyranno's a recent release. I imagine once the pool of available parts expands for Hasbro later down the line, the Blade will have more time to (hopefully) age well.

I also had a realization regarding Roar Tyranno: It could be used effectively as a Defense-Type! Paying closer attention to its shape earlier today, I found that it bears something of a resemblance to the Monster Layer Base, which from my experiences, excelled in defensive setups before Gambit and Whirl came around and outclassed it. So perhaps Defense could be Roar Tyranno's niche? I don't own any defensive Bits, so I can't try that out myself, but this could inspire someone to experiment with this idea and share the results.
