My motto has always been 'Short, sweet, and to the point.' Putting a bar on word count seems a bit outrageous. Yes, it's annoying to have short "chapters", but if it's good and gets to the point, does it matter? Some of the best books are only 100 to 200 pages.

i said words per chapter........................... so basically you have to have a minimum of 100 words in a single chapter, u k with that?

NoodooSoup your post was 51 words in itself. 100 words isn't very much at all and can and should be easily achieved when writing your story.

I like the idea of this, but what exactly do you want to do if a story doesn't fit all of the criteria?

It's more of a guideline. Also: On the pages. Animal Farm has a few chapters with, what, six words? "The pigs suddenly started acting funny." was one chapter. One of the best books of all time.

Ive read Animal Farm, very good book, well you are right, some chapters are good when short, but i'd prefer that we stick to a minimum of 100 words, less is fine only if it gets the entire point across. and yeah, one of the best books of all time. agreed.

Hmm...I agree with the others. But I definitely disagree with the grammar and capitalization error limit. It takes less than 10 minutes to copy/paste a chapter in Word therefore you should have no grammar/capitalization mistakes at all.

Increase the minimum word limit on chapters. I fail to see how a chapter that is less than the average paragraph is acceptable. There shouldn't even be any chapters, most of the stories here are short 1 1/2 - 2 pages in length.

Ok, now I think you are being a bit too harsh. We are still a children's forum.

Keep it at 100 words. We don't really need a minimum in the first place and about half of the stories chapters are under 100 words anyway. Writers who wish to write more can.
You don't have to add everything that members post here.

Now that is just outrageous. Some of the best books I have ever read have had a mistake. Even some of the better writers like Sparta and that make the odd mistake once in a while. You can't say "Your missed a comma. Your story SUCKS! Read the standards!" Make 3 mistakes out per chapter again. I believe that is much fairer.

Agree with RowDog on the error limit, it seems really harsh to new writers.

The typical paragraph is usually 300 words or 8-10 lines handwritten.

I also agree with RowDog and JC regarding the error limit. MicroSoft Word can often create errors, although it should be encouraged people re-read their work a few times thoroughly.

100 words is not much for sure, 400 words is better.

Well, usually 250 words is supposed to be a composition. So, if it has to be a chapter of a story, then probably 350-400 words is enough. I am certain that this would not be too much to ask, IMO. But yes, being a children's forum, 250 will be better in all aspects.
I agree to Mushy's point. 100 is too less.
Also, as Mushy stated, every good writer reads through his works thoroughly to avoid mistakes. IMO, MS Word is a short-cut method which should well be avoided by writers who want to improve their writing skills. Then again, we are a children's forum...

Still, MS word is not always accurate, there still may be some grammar mistakes.

BTW, I type about 4000 Chinese characters per chapter, Haha.

Just remember guys it is still a children's forum. We don't want to set our standards too high. This is only the bare minimum amount needed, everyone can exceed the standards if they choose to.
We also have to take under consideration that this is online reading. People would prefer to read a little bit less than the average story because they can do other things that they want to do on the computer. In some cases a smaller amount is better

Totally agree with RowDog. Maybe we could have a different set of guidelines for beginners, and the original one for returning/experienced writers. By "Experienced" I mean that people that have written at least 1 story that was viewed as successful and has good reputation as a writer. Smile

Advanced WBO Writing Standards:
maximum mistakes: 3/200 words
minimum chapter length: 300 words?
and accept reviews and criticism, even the really super harsh ones.

Beginner WBO Writing Standards:
Maximum mistakes: 3/100 words
minimum chapter length: 150 words
be open to criticism, even the harsh ones.

we also should have a special writing committee that gives the real reviews so that the new writers don't get bad encouragement. I propose for the committee:

- TITAN
- Izuma Inzori (BIG MAYBE, wy writing still kindda sucks, no?)
- Mushy
- BeybladerPotter

lol Yay somebody agrees with my idea. We should call it "experienced" instead of "advanced", it seems kind of far away. And minimum words per chapter is not exactly needed, as in some stories some chapters are direct, to the point with snappy and quick sentences, with less description. For example, short stories mainly consist of around 85% plot and 15% description. Yet not all stories are supposed to be short stories. That's about it, sorry for rant-style post Tongue_out
