TAKARA-TOMY announces new, third Beyblade generation: Beyblade Burst! ベイブレードバースト
Why do I have to be in the U.S. ?

I feel like this video confirms my worst fears about this gimmick. There's no way this battle should have ended this way. I am trying to be optimistic at this point, because I really want to play, but this just doesn't seem like an improvement.
Really? I think this is actually pretty cool.
Before the Kerbius explodes I thought Sprrigan will lose, but the sudden explosion is like WTF? and lol.
how cool would you think it was in the finals of a tournament if you were the one who lost? lol
when freak critical hits would happen before, it was luck of the draw, sure. but they also happened pretty infrequently, and to have one happen so far into a match is very unlikely. in this scenario, I'd just feel bitter that my own Beyblade let me down.
What is interesting, at least, is that Beyblades kinda have "HP" now separate from their RPM.

Not that I disagree, but curious to know why you think it was a mistake?
The Weight Disk in Plastics accounted for about 40 %+ of the weight of a Plastic Beyblade. Its purpose was essentially to weigh up the spinning top (obviously), but more importantly to dictate where that weight was distributed (edge, middle, centre). The Attack Ring was, for the most part, there to make contact and provide reach. In theory, regardless of usefulness, that means each AR had a different behaviour depending on the WD used (or at least depending on the WD archetype).
On the other hand, the Metal Wheel accounts for about 80 % of the weight of a MFB. It dictates weight, weight distribution and the shape of contact points. Leaving aside the MFB designers' love of drawing circles and increasing weight, the contact points can only ever benefit from a single set of characteristics, and the MW represent such a big part of the weight percentage, that the weight becomes even more paramount to the usefulness of said MW.
I think that to have a deep customization system, you can't have parts hogging all the variables, but rather, you need to have them spread as widely across parts as you can.
If I were to vulgarize what parts of Plastics and MFB represent (SG and CW aside), it would probably go like this:
Contact points - weight/weight distribution - movement/height
Contact points/weight/weight distribution - height - movement
Metal Fight did introduce the height variable, and it's important, but the height range in Blade Bases was, as far as I know, never as dramatic as the weight range of Metal Wheels.
Great post, thanks for sharing.
Word of warning: The 4D + Zero-G head designer is also the Burst head designer.

Nocto, I think you're definitely right on many levels, but I don't think we should discount Clear Wheels entirely. It was proven over time that they can have an observable effect on the performance of a given Beyblade when compared against other Clear Wheels used on the same Beyblade. Like Attack Rings with Weight Disks, Wheels performed differently depending on the Clear Wheel used (to some probably lesser degree than the effect of WDs on ARs, but the effect was still there).
Yes! Finally someone agrees.
Their reactions are hilarious.

Well. honestly I don't feel a thing, because the randomness fun is what I wanted the most.
But letting beys to have different explosion probability is a lame idea - everyone would just head for something that doesn't blow up as much and those who does would just be ditched/not considered at all.
Weights of the new Beyblade Burst parts are now known!
Valkyrie : 8.0 grams
Spriggan : 7.7 grams
Ragnaruk : 8.5 grams
Kerbeus : 8.0 grams
Wing : 19.2 grams
Spread : 20.8 grams
Heavy : 21.6 grams
Central : 20.0 grams
Accel : 5.6 grams
Fusion : 5.6 grams
Survive : 5.6 grams
Defense : 6.1 grams

So that puts the average weight (so far) of a Burst Beyblade at 34.175 grams. About the same weight as the lighter HMS, and a little lighter than the early MFB. However, if Horikoshi is really behind the Burst designs they'll no doubt get heavier...
hmm... I wonder how the burst gimmick will influence future left spinning beyblades. If any at all because of it.
And approximately the same weight as a plastic Beyblade, I think ?
If anybody was still wondering : no, Beyblade Burst are not meant to fight among other generations, hah.

UNLESS tomy or more likely hasbro has a way of causing a lock mechanism for those people so that people can make it so that it won't burst. if so, Volt, you're gonna go DOWN with Burn Blaze!
If TT is going to release a left-spin, I guess it might use the exact same burst gimmick design as those in Right beys, which would be harder to burst due to its spinning direction.
This guy does another vid, valkyrie time test with some battles halfway.

That's actually something I never thought about... it'll be interesting to see what happens with spin direction now that we know how the gimmick works.
Ah geez it's probably gonna be owned by another unlikable d bag who brags on about left spin.
Though actually, if Left Spin has the potential to be harder to burst, I also believe a Left Spin would have a hard time bursting a right spin in that logic.

In MFB , I consider Left-Spin to be a gimmick. L-Drago especially in season 1, was a big deal with its spin direction (in the game and show). Only a few tops had it and it was fairly exclusive, per say. At least before Ronin Dragoon, left spin could only be used on certain setups.
With the main gimmick in this being the Bursts, at least for the first year I don't know if we will see any left spinning parts.

I would be OK if we never saw another Left Spin Beyblade. I think, looking at the development of the metagame overall, they pretty much always have a negative impact. But I think it's something that they will inevitably do with Burst.

please let this go already, we know obviously nothing about how they will treat this
I'm sorry, I just dislike the concept as it wears out after a while and it's always my thing that I have to express my thoughts, it's something I cannot help.

If a round in a tournament ends similarly to the last battle in this video, is it a tie or does Valkyrie get the point? My first thought would've been to call it a tie, however, in order for Spriggan to have burst, it would first have needed to make contact with Valkyrie, which couldn't have been knocked out or out of play at the same time Spriggan burst, meaning it couldn't really be a tie. Does this mean Burst finishes will take precedence over knock outs if both occur in one round...?

In this case, the Burst did happen before the self-knockout :

However, in a tournament, if the judge had been unable to identify which of the two losses happened first with his eyes, then it would have been a tie.
So... are these actually out yet? If I order one, will it be counted as a preorder? Because I've seen people who have gotten them already, and I don't know if I'd be able to obtain one currently as well. I thought they weren't coming out until the 18th of July, right?
^ These were early releases from World Hobby Fair. No store has them available for pre-order yet AFAIK.
Was thinking about this last night actually, IMO it's worth considering that in the occurence of a Draw with two different types of losses, they should be prioritized:
1. Burst
2. Knockout
3. Outspin
So if your Beyblade Bursts at the same time the opponent's is knocked out, you would be declared the loser. I would, of course, have to playtest it to see if this idea totally sucks.
OK but was it really that much of a trend? We had many years of Beyblade where the main character had a left spin Bey and it was barely mentioned. Beyblade has a long history, and we shouldn't assume anything in Burst is going to play out according to how it's been done before.
Of course, I could be wrong and exactly what you've predicted comes to fruition, but there's no way to know and no point filling up this thread with posts about it. Especially since this thread is primarily for discussing the toyline and many of us are watching it closely for news.
