Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Ichida Wrote:I'm into non-competitive Brawl as well; I play with items on from time to time. Hell, most of my YouTubed matches have items, but I've suffered too many humiliating losses both in Melee and Brawl because of items, which are mostly based on luck, I usually prefer to turn them off and leave a match wholly up to skill whenever possible.
LOL
go play some sports, that requires skill
brawls just requires you to memorize buttons
I also prefer no items. You can use just items to kill someone else. With items the game becomes like dodgeball.
Well, I just gave my thoughts. I don't go laughing at all of you for opposing them, like you have so thoroughly done to me, even though I already admitted that I play both styles of Smash. If you feel that strongly that competitive Smash is twisted and wrong, go issue your beliefs to the fiery canals of SmashBoards.
Does anyone have problems playing a lvl 9 Olimar? He's like the only character I have problems with at times Uncertain

Yeah, I've been losing a lot lately because I keep forgetting how to jump.

i declare that you are now required to run all of your posts by a third party before posting them because you are evidently incapable of posting anything that doesn't sound completely carp insane

Supposedly the CPUs in Brawl are somewhat smarter. I've heard stories of edgeguarding CPUs. I have yet to notice a difference myself though.
After peering at the Smashboards briefly, I'm glad I usually stay away from places like those.

I could use less things to cause me headaches in life. If I want an easier way to suffer, I'll read YouTube comments.

And you'll never catch me edge-blocking. It seems too... dirty for my tastes.

And Ichida, in your rebuttal, you did not touch upon why you got those replies.

Basically the consensus was that items aren't a "mostly luck" factor in this game. They are very much a part of the game, and dismissing them as a non-competitive element is rather short-sighted and foolish. You might as well say that certain stages (e.g. Mario Bros.) cause luck to prevail. Hell, if we all thought this way, people would only ever fight on Battlefield or Final Destination. What a boring competition that would be.

Items add a varied sense of depth to the game. It wasn't because of luck that you "suffered too many humiliating losses", it was because your skill did not adjust well enough to the different play style - simple as that.

This brings me to the second point of why you got these responses. You are taking this (like many other things in the past) way too seriously. You are so adamant in your viewpoints, that it makes you appear rigid, and disagreeable. It's just a game! Honestly, your wording makes you sound like your actions have caused 20 American soldiers in Iraq to lose their lives.

There are far more important things in this life to devote your time to, and I really do hope you see that as you grow up. In all seriousness, SSBB is one of the last things on my mind when compared to items like: the four audit files waiting on my desk in the morning, the price of furniture and how it will affect my budget for when I move out in May, and the complications I am having with Wendy.

Anyway, this was supposed to be a simple quip about SSBB, but apparently I got into a kind of thing there. Take from what I said what you wish.
I don't really think the whole rules debate is the problem here, it's the reactions of the responders to Ichida's first comment, and the offense Ichida took to these responses.

To be honest, when I play brawl with my roommates and friends, we pretty much always play with no items/smash balls on stages such at FD/BF/smashville. It's fun as balls, and anyone who says "omg no items is no fun" can shove it up their carp because it's bull carp, people have opinions on how they like to play.

Everyone should kinda just tolerate each other here.
Well, just to be clear, my first comment at Ichida was really just a joke. Everything that happened afterward was just funny because Ichida got so serious about it.

I'm seriously terrible at this game no matter how you slice it, so I don't care one way or another who plays what or how. I was just poking a little fun at Ichida because he's known to be more aggressive when it comes to playing video games. Tongue_out

well yeah, if you memorize every button combination of your "main character", you know all of his tricks, no room for improving since you already know all there is to know..

Every player has their own tactics. Knowing their moves is just basic training; it's how you use those attacks to effectively counter your specific opponent's/opponents' that matters. You could be so experienced at fighting one player's main that victory becomes near formulaic, but then turn around and lose to someone who plays a totally different character with a completely different set of tactics. I think knowing every character's attacks would be immensely more helpful, especially since a lot of people tend to have more than one character they're proficient with.

That's not how the game works in the slightest. =O

Chocked_2
A good example is a character like Link. Some people stick to melee fighting with the sword, some people prefer to play a distance game with his many projectiles for most of the battle, and some people maintain a healthy balance of both. It's all down to individual tactics.
