Why is the dark side of the force considered evil?

You're a genius to ask that question, bro

Why is the dark side of the force considered evil?

Because it generally forms off of negative emotions such as hate, fear, anger etc. Usually, these emotions are either used for, or lead directly/indirectly into evil actions, thoughts and desires. The truth is, the dark side isn’t actually evil. It’s just so tempting and negative by nature, that is usually leads to evil. When and if it is used the right way, it can be a force for good.
what if anakin never turned to the dark side?

Everything would be fine. Palpatine might be put on trial.

If it happened in canon, everything would probably be fine. Since being a Sith isn’t a crime in modern republic I assume the Jedi would flat out kill him (no point in accounting his war crimes, they need him out as fast as possible). Yoda and Obi-wan work towards changing the Jedi order alongside helping Anakin stray from the dark side. Anakin also eventually reaches the rank of master. Luke and Leia are born into the newly customer Jedi order and begin their training at a better age. Since Palpatine is dead, the Sith cult cannot restore the Sith fleet. Everything goes perfectly and the galaxy’s remains at peace at last.

If this is legends, then it’s nearly the same. Palpatine did not know essence transfer in the Rots era nor does he have his clone bodies ready so when he dies, he stays dead. The Jedi order is revised by Kenobi, Yoda and Mace, they get rid of all the ridiculous customs and beliefs that lead to their near-downfall and work towards a better peace keeping method. Many Sith artifacts come into possession of the Jedi order and the Sith shrine underneath the temple is eradicated. Luke and Leia are born safely, and Padme lives. Under the new Jedi rules, they begin their training during later years. Despite this, the Jedi do begin to slowly utilize the dark side more; working towards a more balanced approach however, they do this with caution so as to avoid fully embracing it. Because of their new ideas and era of peace, the Jedi begin to expand massively and as this happens, peace is further established within the galaxy. By the time Luke Skywalker is grand master the Jedi order is enormous and many of its elder masters still remains. The Yuuzhan vong either ditch their plan to invade out of fear, or they do invade only to get completely sideswiped. The republic and Jedi order team up to fight off the invasion once more and the Vong are simply no match for the combined might of an enormous fully trained and executed Jedi order (with some of the best Jedi ever seen in Jedi history mind you) and an uninterrupted technologically advanced republic. Abeloth is never freed since Jacen Solo never ends up becoming Caedus. This is because Palpatine died before Lumiya came into the picture. The one Sith order gets crushed every time it attempts to rise and can never muster enough power to pose a proper threat. The galaxy remains at peace.

This would make for an epic movie
Feeling kinda bored, might make a Star Wars legends power levels template.

-edit: on second thought, I’ll do canon for now, I’m kind of tired.
Almost done my canon Star Wars tier list.
Finally finished my canon force user tier list template for now: https://tiermaker.com/create/star-wars-c...ers-915813
I'll probably add more characters when I feel like it and/or when more significant characters are introduced.
Been reading a bit of the high republic and in all honesty, it’s pretty good. People are only hating on it because of all this drama when they haven’t even read it.
Was surprised to learn that imperial era Palpatine < The Bendu.
Apparently, Revan is going to start appearing in canon according to some leaks.

I see this as an absolute win considering Revan is one of my favorites.

Yeah he is pretty interesting. Hes probably going to get super nerfed since Palpatine and Vader are meant to be the strongest sith in canon though, but I dont mind Vader and Palpatine being at the top.
Fun fact: After Ben had collapsed the hut on Luke, he was so angered by the thought of his uncle attempting to kill him that he briefly tapped into his force potential and accidentally created a ginormous lightning storm that destroyed Luke's entire jedi temple and killed almost all of the existing jedi. This is one of the greatest feats in the entire Star Wars canon and just goes to show us how powerful the Skywalker family truly is. Ben wasn't even trying to do anything, he had just gathered all of his anger whilst staring into the sky which was enough to do this, Snoke wasn't kidding when he talked about the potential of Kylo's bloodline.

Happy May The 4th!
Gonna bump this thread before it becomes dormant for too long. Who is your favourite sith in both legends and canon? Why do you like them? For me, it's gotta be Darth Vader in canon simply because he's far too entertaining with all his amazing adventures and fear inducing fights-like; no joke, disney canon made Vader cool again. For legends, it would be tie between Darth Sidious and Darth Krayt. Sidious´ godly feats and amazing dialogue always struck me and he truly felt like an overarching villain. Legends really reinforced the whole ¨devilish¨ theme Lucas intended for Palpatine and I will always love that. Darth Krayt established the new sith order and was a perfect reverse counterpart to Luke and his jedi order, he was a very interesting concept to say the least... his entrances were also very awesome.

DeltaZakuro since I know you like sw too i'll tag you
I thought this thread was Dead lol but when I saw earth fader audit light saber and take Luke's arm my eyes dropped
Haven't really seen much Legends but Canon-wise, id say Vader. Im too lazy to give an explanation rn but i think you see why.

Yeah I did say that but I wasn't sure what major feats he had.

Ahh ok, I understand. Hes certainly a very interesting character, he was actually created/born directly by the force. The force created him in order to kill emperor Valkorion (who was called Vitiate at the time) similarly to how the force created Anakin although Revan was no chosen one and wasn't part of a massive prophecy. Revan actually did end up confronting Vitiate alongside Meetra Surik (Jedi master who killed Darth Nihilus) and Lord Scourge (soon to be personal sith assassin of the emperor) and he engaged Vitiate in a massive force battle but ended up losing after he was badly electrocuted and burnt by Vitiate´s lightning barrage. He actually had a chance at winning the fight had he not been drugged and tortured from being kept prisoner by the dark council.
