Hyuga/Hikaru: They simply want to be the best after being inspired.
Valt: Wants to battle to see Hikaru and Hyuga go far, and possibly achieve a flare.
Rantaro: Want's to prove himself to his students by being on the level of the others.
Ranjiro: Wants to get revenge against Lain for the injury.
Silas: Wants to prove himself to Free that he's on the same level.
Free: Wants to get revenge on Lain.
Lui: He's always just enjoys battling since he gets to reign over as a powerful force.
Lain: This was left out of the anime, so that's a valid complaint. But he wanted to live up to Shu's expectations, but got so consumed with Flare to where he didn't care about Shu anymore.
Drum: Continuing in his goal to make Dragon the strongest Beyblade.
Shu: Wants to free Lain from his harmful Flare.
Aiga: Simply enjoys battling. Possibly also wants to be the World Champ again.
Wakiya: Doesn't need a reason to compete since he's not even competing.
This is how it always was from the start. This allows anyone to root for who they want, since no one feels more important than the other. That would jsut be tunnel visioning on certain characters, making the other ones left out from doing anything consequential.
All of these motivations for the bladers are fine, and yes I do agree that they don't have to be grand motivations from the get go. Hell, a lot of main characters start off with fairly basic starting goals of wanting to become the best, like Drum for instance. It's just later on, I want the brothers' goal to expand a bit and give them a bigger target to aim for.
Here's an idea I came up with (without copying the manga). I really wanted a moment where Hyuga and Hikaru get a hint that Lean has developed an unsatisfiable flare, feel a bit sorry for him, and get stronger to not only surpass the legends but also be enough to satisfy Lean.
Remember when you said that Hyuga and Hikaru were simply inspired by such an epic battle between Valt, Sisco, and Rantaro at the beginning and that excitement they experienced made them want to get stronger too? Perhaps Lean doesn't get to experience that same excitement (or at least hasn't experienced it for a while) that the brothers' do no matter how much he tries to call out his flare nor has any of the legends been able to satisfy him, hence why they would feel bad for him.
To both help Lean and become the best, they want to be strong enough to prove they can overcome the legends
and surpass Lean's thirst for flare by reaching a higher standard. Granted, the anime almost does that, but I don't think the brothers had a moment where they felt bad for Lean.
It's not overly complex or complicated, it's simple stuff like this could work for the series.
Also moved the conversation here, so we don't keep flooding the "Beyblade Burst DB - Episode 21 Discussion" thread lol.
Eh, I will think of something to put here...
... later ;)
