Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

Arguably the best PSP game (hands-down the most popular in Japan) has finally come stateside.

Has anyone here played a game from this series before? If not, pick it up.
I love the series, been playing since the original on PS2. Does anybody here play online with xlink kai? My kaitag is CaineTh.

Also if anybody that lives near london wants to go to the gathering hall that capcom has set up in charing cross on saturday, tell me and we can play some quests together, i'm currently HR7 in Unite.
"Arguabley the best PSP game", good thing you put arugabley there, since any game that is impossible without having 3 other friends play the game with you isn't what I'd call good.

My friend says he's willing to pay half of the games $34 price tag for me, lmao.

1) The game is quite doable by yourself. It's pretty much the same thing as the other Freedom games and I could solo the harder bosses in 2. Just need the right items.

2) Do it, it's worth it.
I owned Freedom 2, it is impossible. I sold the game the same week I bought it.
Impossible if you don't have the right tools. You'll either have to fail a few missions to get some items or take some lower level ones to build your mats.
You need to be able to control the camera. Without it, you will suck. It's not the game's fault that you can't play it, it's yours. Once you get the hang of it, the gameplay is great.

I soloed up to HR6. I'm stuck on the Black Gravios, but I haven't really given it actual effort... I have yet to get Xlink Kai.
i seriously know nothing about this series, someone tell me about it

yes i'm aware i could look it up but as long as we're discussing it you may as well

I was HR 4 when I sold my hacked PSP and the only copy I had was a lender. I'm a Gunlancer Supaburn Takes some practice but it's worth it for ridiculous power and versatility.
I tried playing this. I found it incredibly boring. It felt extremely dated. This game, though, give more of a reason that Sony needs to add a second analog nub to the console because the camera was a bit annoying(it was mapped to the d-pad, correct?).

It is kinda annoying, but part of the challenge is controlling the camera as well.
that's an excuse for bad camera design

True, but people play the DMC games, Ninja Gaiden games, KH games and don't complain one bit.
And don't use the Lock on Systems as a counter either, because that's just as much an easy way out as skill is an excuse for bad camera design.
lock-on systems are not an easy way out of skill if the game is built from the ground-up with them in mind

Either way, part of the draw of MH is that it's unforgiving, and the camera adds to that, good or bad.
I still couldn't believe how little plot there was in the one I played. Sure I played it for a week, but gosh (I've also played G on Wii, along with the Tri demo, doesn't seem to be getting better), if you think Michael Bay movies are thin on plot...

The game is in no way impossible. Once you get used to the "Claw Grip" for your PSP, it's just a matter of learning to read a monster's movements (Like for some enemies, the speed in which they turn is a good indicator of what their next move will be). Every single person I know who gave up on this game did so because they said it was too difficult. That's my only dislike of this game, the drastic difficulty curve. Once you beat your first large monster (Yian Kut-Ku), you soon learn the flow of the game (I soloed up untill black gravios also). The whole control scheme thing isn't exactly capcom's fault, I don't see any good control scheme being possible due to the PSP's lack of second analogue stick.

Also, just got my first 2 pieces of yama tsukami armor. Smug

You're missing the point. If you want a plot, do not buy any of the games in this series.
Most people play the game for the sense of achievement after defeating a difficult foe solo or the sense of comradery gained by hunting with friends.
Also, Words

There's a plot at all?
o.O
News to me. I thought it was just, "Kill this monster, collect this items" then, "Kill X monsters", repeat. I thought that the story only went as far as the opening vid.
I have no problem with the carp camera, I've dealt with 3D Sonic games afterall. It's just how stupidly unforgiving this game is. I remember when I played the second one this monster would ram me into the ground, then when I got up, it ramed me into the ground again, again, and again as soon as I got up, until the stupid cats came and threw me in their wagon.

As said before, this is one of the draws of monster hunter.
Also, what kinds of weapons were you using? All newcomers seem to use greatsword and battered because they haven't learned how to use it efficiently.
Sorry, I can't remember the details of two years ago when I played Freedom 2. But I'm pretty sure I took the gun. I'm not coming back to these games. And I highly doubt Capcom is going to sell the 900,000 they want to sell in North America and Europe.
Not sure about sales figures, but I know that Freedom Unite is top of the PSP sales charts right now in europe and capcom have increased their marketing for the game. For example, the gathering hall, a place opened in central london for 2 months where you can go and play monster hunter with lots of other people.
It doesn't take much to top the PSP's software charts in most territories.
True, only time will tell how well it does.
"In the world of Monster Hunter you,re never alone"

Even Capcom USA thinks this game is lazy. They didn't even spell check the box art.
