Graphics Battles! Prepare for War!

Just an idea.

There seems to be a growing amount of graphics artist on the forum, due to this I thought that it'll be a good idea to introduce people to the idea of a graphics battle.
This thread can be used to organize graphics battles between members. Once a battle has been agreed upon, please create a new thread with the title 'Graphics Battle: Members Name VS Members Name'. Graphics battles are a good way of increasing/honing your skills, and be known as an expert graphics artist.

What is A Graphics Battle?

Basically, it's a competition where a competitor enters a 'sig' for battle, and the forum votes on which 'sig' they prefer best. Each voter should vote on which sig they view to be proficiently designed. Graphics battles are not a popularity contest, so please don't vote simply because your friends with a person. Vote on which sig you think is more appealing. Participants of a battle are not allowed to vote.

Rules:

- A battle can consist of 2 or more participants
- When challenging someone to a battle please state the theme or whether it's freestyle.
- State the size requirements
- Time to prepare the sig. (Usually 3 - 7 days)
- Whether animations are allowed
- Voting Rules: Set time allowed for voting, person with most votes by the close of voting is the winner, or first person to 'X' amount of votes.
- When a thread is created in order to nullify the effects of group conformity and bias the voting will be blind without any specific mention of the creator of each sig. Each sig will be presented as 'Member A or 1', 'Entrant A or 1', 'Signature A or 1'. This will help ensure an even playing field for each participant as a persons profile won't influence voting.
- When a thread is created there will be no polling option for voting. Polls can be easily manipulated to assist a competitor. This can include the use of fake accounts or simply voting for yourself using your own account. Only votes which are posted and specifically mention which competitor they'll choose to vote for will be included towards a persons tally. ie, "I vote for Member A, since there design catches the eye better".

Sidenote:
If you like you can also throw a challenge out to who ever will accept, or simply call a member out to battle! Example, "I challenge Fyuuor to a freestyle battle! Size 380x160, with 4 Days to prepare. Do you accept?". Once somebody has accepted you can discuss voting requirements.

Battle Screen!

When a thread is created for a battle it's ideal the sigs are presented in the manner below:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Member A VS Member B

First to 5 Votes or Voting closes 16/6/2011

Member A:

Member B:

I hope this idea picks up, as really is quite fun when there are a few people involved. This is how I managed to test my skills when I was first learning how to use Photoshop. Perhaps if we get enough interested we might even be able to create a GFX's tournament!

This actually looks pretty good. Here's the last sig I made for the wi-fi league, by [][][][][]'s request (he's using it right now). He is the Ghost E4:

And this is the old one I made for him when he was the Water E4:

I make the backgrounds myself unless they ask for something specific that I can't make, like "Flag of Mexico, Union Jack, Confederate flag, etc." Even then, I try to get a more unique version of it, like a Union Jack that is waving somewhat, or the Mexican flag with the center made larger and redrawn. Of course, I'm not as good as some people on here like Kei, Kai-V, Fyuuor, NoodooSoup, etc., but what do you guys think?

Oh, and I challenge someone who wants to battle against either one of my sigs! Cute
Ready for some domination by Kai-V?
well nice idea loved it u please add in rules that the background should be self made in the rules because most of the good sig makers only except a sig shop if the owner makes self made background and i would like to say we don't need to make new threads every time as people will gonnna fill wbo with lots of thread and they will become host of spams only i would like to say that u should modify the rules like

a person can challenge other with the format i told and on this thread only and voting will be there for that i will keep a record of votes on the first post of this thread and people can vote a sig by pm me by telling about which battle they r talking about and for which person they want to vote

and also i want to become a member and hoping to see many battles ahead
BOOM.

I like the idea, but if xlr8 Or other sig makers want to battle me...i withdraw. It is because i want to see how fun this will be going on.....Smile

Sure, why not? I respect her talents, and I even said that I'm still an amateur. But for not having photoshop and still making these, I think my sigs are pretty good. But I know that they can't compare to some of the members on here.
well those who want to participate according to him should tell that if he want's to be a member of it or not and we can't challenge a non-member i hope many people will going to become member
Haha , good idea , but ... have you copied this idea from GFX Forums ? Looks so , because GFX Forums have graphic battles for long. I will be creating a new one.

Graphic battles have existed for years, it is not really anybody's idea.

By the way, I have so little free time that I might only accept challenges if I think they will really be challenges.
I like the idea of battles, but to get things moving and to see who the interested players are you should start with an open contest (any designer invited). The OP should come up with the theme and details. Then set up a poll for voting. The terms should be something like the losing designers have to display the winners sig of choice for a week or so.

Hm ... sorry , I thought it was someones idea.
Hah, This is kinda like my sprite battles. Might enter.
It's a shame I don't know the first thing about creating graphics. Oh well, I'll just stick to the writing.

In any case, this looks like a fun way for people to make cool signatures and fun GFX. Good luck to all participants!

Like me Smug

You should probably add a list of competitors in the opening post. That way people know whop to challenge.
I'm up to face anyone. It sounds fun.

Good idea! I'll start by offering an open challenge which means that anyone is allowed to enter. I'll make it easy for now.

Theme: Beyblade
Size: 500x150
Due: 4 Days
No animations
Voting We'll leave the voting open for 3 days after the thread has been created.

You may want to offer create a new sig for your challenge, since it gives you an unfair disadvantage as the opponent would have already seen what there up against. Just a suggestion.

I think that's a general rule anyways in regarding to graphics contest, you must make it yourself. But, I'll add it anyways.

The main reason I suggested for people to create a new thread for each battle is to minimize the disorganization through out this thread. If there are multiple battles happening at one time, it may be a little difficult to keep track.

Anyways, in regards to the clutter the threads will take up. The battle threads can always be closed and moved once the battle has finished. Though if I a moderator would prefer the battles to all be kept in this one thread I don't have a problem.

(Jun. 16, 2011  1:32 PM)xlr8 Wrote: a person can challenge other with the format i told and on this thread only and voting will be there for that i will keep a record of votes on the first post of this thread and people can vote a sig by pm me by telling about which battle they r talking about and for which person they want to vote

If the idea of separate threads for each battle is okay by a moderator then the vote tracking will be kept by either a designated 3rd party or by one of the members of the battle. The voting process will be public, there won't be any PM's regarding votes.

At the moment I'm unsure who that designated 3rd party should be.

(Jun. 16, 2011  1:32 PM)xlr8 Wrote: and also i want to become a member and hoping to see many battles ahead

Sorry I should have clarified and been more specific. By members I mean general WBO members, there's no graphics club or anything. If there were a club, I feel that would promotes the idea of exclusion, I want people to feel free to come in and have a battle.

(Jun. 16, 2011  8:35 PM)Nano Wrote: You should probably add a list of competitors in the opening post. That way people know whop to challenge.

That's a good idea, I'll add some people to the OP.
Oh, okay. I challenge anyone to a Grass Pokémon-themed battle! Size exactly 500x200, with 3 days to prepare (little time as possible, I'm pretty good at Pokémon sigs, although up there is some of my best work)!

It should have a full team of 6 Pokemon, btw.

3-way battle LET'S GOO!
So Nano and I were just discussing, and I said that as a rule, maybe the challenge issuer should make the Battle thread. Sounds good?
Can I get in on this battle too?

You're just in time. We were just about to make the thread for it. We'll wait for you to make yours.
Alright, I'm done with mine. Grin

Alright, but I'm not sure if anyone else can join after that. I mean, five people is enough right?
But then again, it's up to Ga or Nano.
