Favorite Games of All Time (and ELABORATE)

Topic title (Clarissa?) explains it all. (+10 awesome for anyone who gets that.)

My favorite games of all time are:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

This one is an obvious choice. I liked games a fair amount before this was released but when it came out and I first got my N64 I was hooked. It was such an immersive game. It drew me in and never let go. Even to this day I can play this game and appreciate it's achievements in 3D adventure.

2. Super Mario Galaxy

SMG literally redefines what 3D platformers can be. The first time I picked up the controller and landed on a spherical planet that I could run all the way around I absolutely knew that I was in for something special and indeed I was right. It truly is one of the best games I've ever played and deserves 100% of the hype it's received.

3. BioShock

BioShock was very much in the vein of the two games I listed before it. It was totally atmospheric and immersive and it redefined what first person shooters are capable of. A compelling story and most importantly, a believable setting along with some truly awesome graphics all come together to make one of the best games of the current generation, if not one of the best games ever.

4. Halo Series

Another redefining set of games. This series helped take console FPS's from the pits to where they are now and I still think they have the best multi-player games around.

5. Guitar Hero II & III

Singlehandedly revived the rhythm-action genre and made it into a superstar genre while they were at it. Sure DDR was popular before GH came around, but music games were never as popular as they are now thanks to GH.

So, what are yours and why?
halo: combat evolved

truly a perfect console shooter if there ever was one.

grand theft auto: san andreas

redifined what a sandbox game really is.

halo 3

forge is really really fun, best single player game by bungie yet.

super mario bros. 3

best platformer ever.

the legend of zelda: ocarina of time, majora's mask, wind waker

amazing puzzels, great art styles.

gears of war

best console graphics yet, carp seaking worthy co-op, amazing things have happened to me online.

half-life 2: episode 2

cool set peices.

theres more but thats all i'm going to do for now.
I've totally been meaning to make this list for like a month...

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Needs no real explaination at this point)

Resident Evil 4 (Badass concept with the parasite-foreigners and all, badass gameplay... it's like my favorite shooter of all time...)

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (I really think it came close to the awesomeness of OoT...)

Metroid Prime (In competition with the above for best GC game ever)

Halo (as a series, pretty much... has some of the greatest multi ever)

Guitar Hero II (I honestly have no clue why I love this so much... but it's addicting as hell. And yeah, I do like 2 better than 3, honestly. XD)

Super Mario 64 (have yet to play SMG)

Star Fox 64 (For some reason, I love this thing...)
1. Bioshock for the reasons you already stated.

2. Chrono Trigger

Played it as a kid, still such a great game. I wish they actually made a decent sequel.

3. Link's Awakening

The BEST Zelda game, ever. If you haven't played this, play it dammit.
Chrono Trigger -
Some of the BEST video game music of all time, a carp load of endings, great characters. this game carp ROCKS.
I got a SNES cartridge copy of this game earlier this year (Finally!), Easily one of the best purchases made this year.

Mother 3 -
Shigesato Itoi's genius shows through, as Mother 3 shows how a game can be so simplistic in its design, but hold such power.
Mother 3 has moments where you'll laugh, cry, and all around have an amazing time. Combined with a great soundtrack, and this comes out as my #1 GBA game.
I cried at the end of this game, the final boss is something of a tear-jerker of a battle.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past -
What can I say? Deep involving quest, numerous items and dungeons. This game is amazing. To me, its the ultimate Zelda game.. nothing yet has surpassed it in its greatness. (though, Wind Waker did come close)

Super Mario Bros. 3 -
I really don't know what to say, other than this game is the best side scrolling platformer ever made.
and.. it has Kuribo's Shoe, which.. by god.. needs to make a comeback.

Super Mario 64 -
120 Stars (150 if its the DS Version) of solid game play. Just messing around in levels never gets old.
using the Shell to surf around in Lethal Lava Land is one of my favourite past times in that game.

Super Mario Galaxy -
Even though it was just over a week ago, I don't think I'll ever forget how I felt when I first turned this on.
A gigantic smile swept across my face, this game is amazing, and I can't think of any better way that the Mario series could have been done on the Wii.

Are you saying Wind Waker was better than OoT?
Tamer Brad Wrote:Are you saying Wind Waker was better than OoT?

To me, (as in, my own opinion), it was.
but thats just me, I never really got into Ocarina of Time.

I didn't have an N64 when OoT came out, so I missed being wowed by it in its opening days.
Then when I later got the game, I still didn't really "get" it, It may just be a personal failing ,and I know it was a big step forward, and its had an influence on many games ever since then, but back when I finally got my hands on the game (About a year after its releases) I thought "well, this is FUN, but not amazingly better than what came before it, Sure, it has a whole new perspective, and lots more to do" but still, it just couldn't top ALttP.

Majora's Mask came out, and even though the time-limit bit kind of made me mad at the start, it wasn't too bad. I enjoyed it.

When Wind Waker came out though, that was just magic for me.
the style was so delightful and the gameplay was so fun.
The areas were so new and everything just felt right.
In my eyes, Wind Waker was what I wanted Zelda to be for so long.

So yes, I personally believe that Ocarina of Time, although a great game, just couldn't match up to ALttP, and then subsequently, WW.
I am in NO WAY saying that OoT is terrible, I love the game, I haven't played a Zelda that I didn't enjoy.
But personally, I'd rather play Wind Waker or ALttP.

I'm sorry if my radically different opinion offends any of you. I know how big OoT is to many. And I guess I just deserve some bashing for not praising it like many others do.
But, I don't really care. I play games to get enjoyment.
And on a standpoint of just that, I enjoy playing WW more than OoT
Ocarina of Time
Final Fantasy VIII
Chrono Trigger
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Link's Awakening
Legend of Dragoon
I'll think of more later.
I thought I was the only one who liked WW better than Oot.

I'm gonna make a tentative list, Fav. games of all time is a pretty tall order to fill.

-Super Mario Bros 3(NES)
-Super Mario Bros(NES)
-Pokemon gsc(Gameboy)
-Monster Rancher 2(PS)
-The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker(GC)
-Super Smash Brothers Melee(GC)
-Call of Duty: United Offensive(PC)
-Rival Schools(Arcade)
-Starfox 64(N64)
-Mischief Makers(N64)
-Super Mario 64(N64)
-MegamanX(SNES)
-Secret of Mana(SNES)

I'll end up thinking of others lol.

I'm not going to flame you for thinking that. It's totally understandable that you didn't get the OoT effect like everyone else did when it first came out. Besides, Wind Waker really is an awesome game.

Also, I forgot to mention the Halo series as a whole as well as GH2 and GH3.
Final Fantasy IX - underrated by most players, but I think it didn't get the attention it deserved for two reasons. By the time it came out, epople were already used to the new dark and technological vibe set by FFVII and FFVIII. The truth is, FFIX returns the game to its medieval, magical roots, and does it excellently with a story set around Princess Garnet and her eidolons.

Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune - An arcade racing game I've recently fallen in love with. It can be called Initial D's rival series. Whereas Initial D is about hard turns, MT is more of a highway battle, but don't be deceived, it has some pretty nasty turns here and there. Being able to save your tuning on magnetic ink savecards is what attracted me to this game. The soundtrack here is pretty kickass too.

.hack//G.U. - Love the whole vengeance of Haseo storyline. Wish Ovan could have been a party member. Pinching_eyes_2

JUMP Ultimate Stars - navigates like Kingdom Hearts, fights like Smash Brothers, with Shonen JUMP characters.

Just to name a few.

SoulCalibur III - one of my favorite fighting systems ever. Love the character creation system. SCIV is gonna rock.

Seiken Densetsu 3 - I love the whole being able to pick your three characters out of the six, and meeting all of them during the game story anyways. An interesting class change system.

Super Mario RPG - Anyone who played this knows why it's awesome. They need to port this to DS or GBA.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth - Innovative progression. Borne my appreciation for Norse mythology.
