This is a fan fiction I worked on which ended up Winning CheetoBlader ‘s Writing Contest. I wanted to share the first chapter, and will probably continue work on the second one at some point in between A Beyblade’s Bizarre Adventure chapters. This fan fiction is another crossover, this time being Beyblade Burst and Death Note.

Chapter 1: The Bey Awakening
The school bell tolls for the final time of the day, and the senior classes leaves, whether it’s towards the bus or for their car. Shu was glad he could finally relax after having to do review all that week for final exams to come for Science and Math.
The front of his high school had some grassy areas planted with some large trees, and as he was heading towards his car, he saw something that looked strange, almost like a spinning top. He walked towards the object, and upon closer inspection, it indeed did look like a spinning top. The top had what looked like two sharp axe-like shapes, the other shapes similar but not axe-like. The center of the top had a stylized S on the front. The top was gold and red in color.
“What is this thing?” Shu asked himself quietly. He picked up the top and examined it. He decided to take it home and figure out what it was for himself.
When Shu got home and had been greeted by his parents, he went upstairs to enjoy the weekend. First things first, he examined the top closer at his desk, which he had a desktop light on turned on. Shu found a tab which could be opened. He opened it up, and saw a small piece of paper inside. Shu opened the desk drawers and started scrambling about for tweezers. Once he found them, he grabbed the paper with his tweezers and pulled it out. It was a relatively long piece of paper for something so small. It was probably 8-9 inches in height, yet only 2-3 inches in width. Shu read the contents on the small piece of paper.
Bey Note
How to use
This Bey has the ability to kill any person who’s name is written on the small piece of paper inside the Bey. Simply press the centerpiece at the top of the Bey, and write a person’s name on the small piece of paper, known as a Bey Note, that dispenses out the side. If no death time is specified, within 5 seconds, the Bey will rush off to kill the specified person. 40 seconds afterward, the person will die of a heart attack if no death is specified.
This Bey has the ability to go through any object, and go at speeds fast enough to kill any person within 40 seconds. No matter the specified death, it will always take a minimum of 40 seconds to kill one person, or several if many names are written at once.
Shu was curious whether or not this was real or fake.
It most certainly has to be fake, he thought, but he couldn’t let go of the thought of something like this being real. He had to try it out. Shu presses the top of the Bey, and a Bey Note dispensed out. He wondered who’s name he should write in it. He knew doing anyone he knew was a bad idea, so he decided to look up a criminal with a bad criminal record that deserved to die in Shu’s opinion. He looked online and found a recent news article on a murderer from a trusted news source who brutally murdered several children at a school in Japan.
“Perfect,” Shu said to himself. He wrote down the murderer’s name, and waited a few seconds. After a few seconds, the Bey rushed off to kill its victim. Shu was shocked at what he had just seen, as he didn’t expect the Bey to actually be legitimate. 40 seconds later, the murderer, who was being detained, began to grab at where his heart was. He fell in the floor, groaning for a few seconds until he died. The security guard watching the place noticed a few minutes later and called the authorities.
The Bey returned 40 seconds after killing its victim.
This Bey must be the real deal, Shu thought, but the only way to know for sure is if they report him dead of a heart attack. I’ll have to look out for news in that area for a few days.
“Looks like you’re the one who obtained my missing Bey.”
Shu immediately swiveled his chair around, only to see a creature with large wings, which were retracted. The creature was red, with some light armor in the color of gold. He had two large, pointy teeth, with several smaller teeth in between those two large teeth. He mostly resembled a glorified, winged goblin. He had a large bush of blonde hair right above his head.
Shu immediately asked, cowering in fear, “What the heck are you!?”
“I’m the ex-owner of that Bey you now possess temporary ownership of. It seems like you were testing the Bey Note to see if it was real.”
“I-I was,” Shu said, still not quite calm yet.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you or kill you. I’m only here because I’m now stuck with you until you either die, or deny ownership of that Bey.”
Shu slowly calmed down, and had a few questions to ask about the Bey.
“Does this Bey happen to have a name?” Shu asked the creature.”
“Yes, it does. It’s called Spriggan, which is also my name,” Spriggan replied.
“Nice to meet you then, I guess, Spriggan.”
“So, then, what do you intend to do with Spriggan, then?” Spriggan asked Shu, Spriggan sitting on the bed.
“I’ve had a dream that I never thought would ever come to reality,” Shu made sure no one was listening in on him by cracking the door open a little bit, then going back to his chair to sit.
“I’ve wanted to change this world for the better and make a perfect world. A world without wrongdoings and evil people. This Bey of yours? I’m going to use it to kill all of the people who’ve committed crimes that have earned them time in jail. Without people like them, the perfect world can be achieved.”
“A tall order you’ve got there for a dream. For once, someone isn’t afraid to actually use the Bey. This is going to be an interesting experience, Shu Kurenai.”
“How do you know my name?” Shu asked, concerned at the fact Spriggan knew his full name.
“I’m what they call an Avatar. We avatars do the killing of people using Beys just like that one, so we have special eyes that allow us to see the names of people right above their head.”
“In that case, can you help me out? Give me names of criminals?” Shu asked excitedly.
“I’m afraid I can’t do that. It’s against Avatar code.”
“No matter. I will just start killing criminals reported on TV and other media as well. Say, 60 names a day should do.”
“60 names a day? You’re being serious about this, I see.”
“Why wouldn’t I be? A lifelong dream of mine doesn’t come true by doing nothing.”
And so for the next few days, after school, Shu would get his notebook, which he now hid in a compartment no one would ever suspect it, wrote exactly 60 names for the next five days. Suspicions began to arise in Japan of why these heart attacks were happening. Shu turned on the TV on the fifth day and watched for a few minutes. He had the news channel on, and the news anchor was reporting the many criminals who had been killed over the last few days. They talked about how people suspected that this was the work of a murderer, since so many heart attacks happening in such a short time span couldn’t be natural.
“Man, you’re good at this,” Spriggan told Shu. Shu just scoffed it off.
“I need no compliments, Spriggan,” Shu replied, “This job is quite hard without not knowing their names. If only there was a way I could look at their face or something like that and know their name...”
“I have a solution for that?”
“So you finally agree to work with me?”
“Actually, it’s something else. We Avatar, as I said, have special eyes that can see a person’s name just by looking at their face. I am able to give you those eyes.”
“Why didn’t you tell me this earlier, Spriggan?” Shu got mildly agitated and gripped his chair a bit harder.
“You never asked. However, when you do this deal, half of your lifespan will be taken from you. It’s your decision. Deal or no deal?”

Chapter 2: Encounter
“It’s been a few minutes, Shu. Do you have a decision?” Spriggan asked curiously.
“I do now. I’ll pass. If I’m going to be the leader of this new world, I can’t get rid of half of my lifespan,” Shu said in an obvious tone.
“Just know I’m not helping you get names,” Spriggan said carefully.
“That’s fine. I don’t need you to get names for me with the news giving me names,” Shu replied. He noticed that the news anchor was now discussing that an incredibly successful detective who went by the name of F would be taking the case of finding the murderer.
“F, huh? Isn’t he one of the greatest detectives to ever live?” Shu asked himself. F then had a message broadcast onto the news network.
“This murderer will be found and given the life sentence at least. For now, we will dub this murderer as Era, for mistaking himself as someone who thinks he has the right to kill criminals. Seeing as most of his killings have been reported on this news network, I suspect he lives right somewhere in Osaka, Japan,” F explained. Shu knew he had messed up right then.
“I’ve got to do everything in my power to make sure he can’t figure out it’s me. I’m just glad I’ve gotten a good hiding spot for the Bey,” Shu said. He then hid the Bey in a secret compartment in his drawer that only he would be able to get access to. It wasn’t a compartment somebody would randomly come across, so he knew this would work for now.
...
At the Osaka main police station, detectives as well as highly ranked police from around the city were called for a private meeting with F, not in person of course, but with F speaking afar. Once everyone was there, the meeting started. A man who was dressed in a black suit with a bright red tie turned on the computer. F was on the other end, and he started talking.
“Thanks to everyone who has come to the meeting. It is helpful that this meeting is kept private so the public does not panic themselves more. First things first, I will be watching deaths in the city closely from now on, so as to help determine the location of Era. Second, I would like the detective force of Osaka to help me with this case. I will have some of you spy on future suspects when that time comes. I’m going to be sending a message through Osaka News tomorrow morning in person.”
The whole meeting was met with shock. F had never shown his face before, or had anyone even hear his real voice.
“You’ll be sending a message...in person!?” One Officer asked. It happened to be Shu’s Father, who worked for the police station in his area.
“Yes. I’ve got a very important message to send out to the public. I’d like to not waste time on this announcement. I’ll be flying over tonight. For now, simply follow my instructions for this case until I say otherwise. This meeting is adjourned.”
...
“I have a feeling F will start looking for suspects, so I’m gonna have to be more discreet with my killings,” Shu explained to Spriggan.
“And how are you going to go about that?” Spriggan asked.
“I’m going to continue hiding the Bey in my secret compartment, but I’m also gonna have to start being much more discreet about where I get my names. It might be time to get one of those mini TV’s and start hiding it.”
“Not a bad idea, but where would you hide it to the point that you could still see it?”
“If it’s small enough, in a snack bag,” Shu said with confidence, “For now, though, I should be able to continue doing my killings as I have been.”
The news came on. It announced that F would be making an announcement the next day and that he would be revealing his face and his real name. Shu listened, quite interested by this news.
“Looks like you’ll take down a large opponent tomorrow, won’t you?” Shu said to the Bey, knowing tomorrow he would write F’s real name and kill him.
“I never even gave this Bey a nickname. How about...World Spriggan?” Shu asked Spriggan.
“Why World Spriggan?” Spriggan asked Shu in confusion.
“I’m going to be the leader of this new world. It makes sense for my weapon to have a name related to the World.”
“Whatever. Are you even done with your killings for today?”
“Yes, I am. It’s getting late so I’m going to go ahead and head to bed,” Shu said letting out a big yawn.
“Could you do me a favor first?”
“Depends. What are you wanting?”
“Nothing much. I just want some Raspberries is all.”
“Raspberries? Why?” Shu asked in confusion. He figured Avatars didn’t have to eat.
“Raspberries...something about their taste makes me want some. I tend to go nuts if I don’t have at least a few, so if I were you I would go get some real quick.”
“Sigh, fine. I’ll be right back,” Shu said. He had already put away World Spriggan, so he opened the door to his room and walked down the stairs to get a few raspberries. He came back up and threw the Raspberries into the air. Spriggan opened wide and let them fall into his mouth.
“Delicious! This’ll hold me over for at least a day.”
...
The next day, Shu turned on the news. The anchor announced the message from F would be ok in the next few minutes, at 10:00 AM. Luckily it was a Saturday, so he would be able to tune into it.
“World Spriggan, it’s almost time,” Shu said to the Bey.
