Driger V2 Rewrite Draft (Updated 20th Jan)

Wasn't a thread for this, so making a new one.

Okay, improved this a bit, because it didn’t focus enough on the synergy of its parts, which is basically the entire reason this beyblade is so good. I’ve been aiming to rewrite this seeing as this article, amongst other things, basically resulted in me underestimating an opponent and being caught unprepared on plastics remembrance day. Not trying to make excuses but yeah, I’d rather not see people caught off guard by this thing again.

This should be basically good to go up, though if someone wants to have a shot at rewording it to be a bit more concise, while still keeping all the info, I'd be cool with it. The wiki formatting is incomplete, I'm leaving that until it gets approved, if it does Tongue_out

Mold Differences
There are two molds of both the Attack Ring and Support Parts, the later molds (used in all Hasbro Driger V2's as well as later Takara Driger V2's (including the Red Recolour) are reinforced, with extra plastic in places prone to breakage, namely under the outer edge of the AR and the beginning of the slopes of the SP. Generally, these molds are preferred as the originals suffer breakage issues. There is also a mold of the base with a completely sharp metal tip, though it is quite rare.
The Hasbro version features darker decals.

Attack Ring (AR): Upper Claw
* Weight: 7 grams

The Attack Ring of Driger V2 consists of two tiger heads, followed by long slopes that reach down to the level of the weight disk, consistent with the desired properties for Upper Attack.

The tiger heads are quite large and sometimes obstruct the slopes, reducing their ability to get under opponents. They also produce some smash attack in left spin, but there are a great number of better options. The angle of the slopes change at two points, and these introduce a certain amount of Upward Smash (that is, Smash Attack that hits at an angle from below, smashing, rather than lifting, the opponent upwards).
The rather shallow lifting curves, combined with the obstructions, limit the lifting potential of this AR, and by itself is generally outclassed by other Upper Attack ARs.

However, this AR is almost always used in unison with its respective Support Parts, Upper Attack SP, which greatly improve its abilities. When combined, the small gap where the AR and SP meet, as well as the points on the AR where the angle of the slope changes, provide the smash needed to KO opponents once they have been lifted off the stadium floor.

There is one further limitation of Upper Claw with respect to Upper Attack: it is only effective in Right Spin, unlike Upper Dragoon and Triple Wing, which have effective slopes in both spin directions.

Due to the limitations of its design as a stand-alone part, this AR should not be used without Upper Attack SP.

Weight Disk (WD): Ten Balance
See Ten Balance

Spin Gear (SG): Neo Right SG (Metal Weight Version)
See Neo Right SG

Support Part (SP): Upper Attack SP
* Weight: 4 grams

As the name indicates, Upper Attack SP hang very low, and have a well shaped slope for lifting opponents. The main use of these SP is in tandem with the Upper Claw AR, where the two line up perfectly, doubling the length of the upper attack slope, and allowing it to begin at a lower height than any Attack Ring. This allows Upper Attack SP to easily get under opposing beyblades and lift them.

While usually used with Upper Claw, the Upper Attack SP can even be functional by themselves, by using a small Attack Ring such as Polta's Try Cutter and a compact Weight Disk such as 10 Heavy.

The low height of these SP comes at a cost, however. They are well known for scraping along the stadium floor on shorter bases or when launched at a sharp angle, which often must be done to get aggressive movement out of Customize Change Base. As such, it is best to use them with taller bases, although they will still cause scraping issues as the beyblade they are used on loses balance.

These SP can be inverted like many other SPs, but doing so requires a 6 Heavy Weight Disk, and is not particularly useful.

Upper Attack SP are also considered by some to be more useful for smash attack than the more popular Fin Tectors. While conventionally used with Upper Claw for Upper Attack, they can be used in Smash Attack customizations to good effect, though one must be very wary of possible scraping issues, as well as obstruction of contact points that may occur due to their large size and round sides.

Use in Upper Attack Customization
Upper Claw and Upper Attack SP work together to provide excellent Upper Attack, and the low starting point of the slopes of Upper Attack SP means that they are able to lift even the lowest of opponents, even on relatively tall bases such as Customize Grip Base. This allows the use of an extremely fast base and an HMC in the same combination, something which other Upper Attacker ARs are unable to do without sacrificing some of their ability to get under opponents.

* AR: Upper Claw (Driger V2)
* WD: Ten Heavy
* SG: Neo Right SG (HMC)
* SP: Upper Attack (Driger V2)
* BB: Customize Grip Base (Dragoon V2)

Ten Heavy and the HMC both maximise the ability to maintain a high RPM, and Customize Grip Base offers good grip and excellent speed, even with a centralised weight distribution, increasing the ability of the AR and SP to knock opponents out after lifting them. This results in a very powerful upper attack combination that can be used with great success against a wide variety of opponents.

Blade Base (BB): Customize Change Base
* Weight: 7 grams

Customize Change Base is the updated version of Metal Change Base (Driger S). It still has a similar metal change tip that allows it switch modes depending on the angle the tip is shot at, however, Customize Change Base's tip is shaper, resulting in less aggressive movement.

Customize Change Base also weighs 2 grams more, and is compatible with Support Parts, most notably the suitably compact Defense Ring. However, it is also taller, and this increased height means its predecessor is generally preferred for use in compact customization. However, Customize Change Base is still a good choice, especially if one is put off by the more aggressive movement of Metal Change Base, but still wants the stamina from a metal tip.

There is also a rare mold with a completely sharp tip. The increased ability to maintain RPM gives it better defensive ability. This mold finds good use in defensive compacts, though one must be wary as using it results in a combination with no attack ability, limiting the versatility that makes Compact customs so powerful.

Use in Compact Customization
While generally outshone by Metal Change Base, it does still find use in compacts, though the only suitable support part is Voltaic Ape’s Defense Ring. The less aggressive performance may appeal to some who are put off by the aggressive behaviour of Metal Change Base, but still wish to benefit from the added survival ability of a metal tip.
The following is an example of a compact which focuses on the unique abilities of Customize Change Base:

* AR: War Lion (Galeon)
* WD: Ten Heavy
* SG: Neo Right SG (HMC)
* SP: Defense Ring (Voltaic Ape)
* BB: Customize Change Base

Any mold of the base will work well with this customization, though Metal Change Base is generally a better choice than more aggressive variants. War Lion is chosen over other options to further focus the defensive abilities of the customization.

Uncustomized Performance
One thing that Driger V2 is notorious for is its ability to perform extremely well uncustomized. While it is greatly enhanced by the addition of 10 Heavy and a Heavy Metal Core, it is one of the most balanced and powerful uncustomized beyblades ever released, owing to the great synergy of Upper Claw and Upper Attack SP, a well balanced base, and the decent defensive ability that comes from its relatively heavy weight. Traditionally, the beyblading community was split between Dranzer V2 or Driger V2 being the best uncustomized beyblade from the hugely popular V2 series. While there has never been one true answer, an uncustomized Driger V2 is still a viable choice to this day.

Overall
Driger V2 is famed for its ability to defeat a wide range of opponents with little to no customization. While its parts aren’t extremely powerful individually, they work excellently together, and can be used in a variety of customisations. It is a good choice for a first beyblade, and a very useful beyblade to own, albeit not a must-have.

Yo, why no Upper Attack customization (in tandem with Upper SP) for Upper Claw?
I honestly love using it with Customize Grip Base, it is great. (Straight out with its own tip.) Then again, it makes me feel less guilty than using my Uriel 2..

Other than that, I think it is a great re-write and the current one undermines what Driger V2 can really do.
It's mentioned in the SP's section, along with CGB, after the example combo there Tongue_out
I didn't think it was worth listing in the AR section as it would cause repetition in the SP section, and the only reason upper claw is great for upper attack is the SP anyway. I would have straight up changed the SP section's combo, too, but yeah, it gave a good reason for itself (even if it is more of an "interesting oddity" than "the best combination for these parts".

You should get around to rewriting Dragoon V2's article, and add a bit about its attack use with its own tip (I made a few minor edits to it today, but it needs a more focussed rewrite), heck, even replace the Driger F Shaft section because it scrapes so much that I'm considering using it to clean the barbecue here, (the last people to stay here didn't bother.)

Alrighty.

I think I'll take a look at that today, I had forgotten all about that!
Speaking of Driger F, hows that section coming along? Tongue_out

Just looking at DV2 article, it is sooooo crammed with Zombie/Defense/Unorthodox Attack it is hard to get in a word edge-wise which would actually make a difference.

"Its tip is good" lol

Spin Gear (SG): Neo Right SG (S-MG Core)
See Neo Right SG

Support Part(SP): Upper Attack
* Weight: 4 grams

Upper Attack is the heaviest SP ever produced. As the name indicates, it is built for Upper Attack, hanging very low, and having a well shaped slope for lifting opponents. The main use of these SP is in tandem with the Upper Claw AR where the two line up perfectly, doubling the length of the upper attack slope, and having it begin at a much lower height (on most common bases) than any Upper Attack AR, allowing for much easier lifting, and producing powerful Upper Attack.

The Upper Attack can also be inverted like many other SPs, but doing so requires a (6) Heavy Weight Disk, and is not particularly useful.

The low height of these SP does [introduce] provoke/produce/create scraping issues with the stadium floor or even the tornado ridge, which can have a large impact on stamina. As such, one must be careful to only use them with a reasonably tall base, and even then, survival will still be compromised. SP, meet scraping issues. Scraping issues, meet SP.

Upper Attack SP are also considered by some to be more useful for smash attack than the more popular Fin Tectors, which can cause large amounts of recoil. While conventionally used with Upper Claw for Upper Attack, they can be used in Smash Attack customisations to good effect, though one must be even more wary of scraping issues.

Use in Upper Attack Combinations
Unlike Upper Claw, the Upper Attack SP can be efficient on its own; not relying on another part. Since Upper Claw is a support part, it has the advantage over Upper Attack ARs in terms of having a lower ramp starting point. Because of this, the SP can serve as the main point of attack instead of having the AR do so. Here is an example of how the Upper Attack SP can be used on its own without any assistance from the AR.

* AR: Trycutter (Polta)
* WD: Ten Heavy
* SG: Right (SG Free Shaft Ver.) (Dranzer S)
* SG Shaft: Full Auto Clutch (Driger F)
* SP: Upper Attack (Driger V2)
* BB: Customize Bearing Base (Burning Kerberous)

In order to focus on attacking with the Support Parts only, smaller parts aside from the SP and BB must be used, thus the reasoning for the use of a small AR such as Try Cutter (Polta). A Ten Heavy is used because it is fairly compact with a reasonable amount of weight to control the SG. The SG uses the shaft from Driger F for optimal speed.

Obviously, a more practical customisation would employ the Upper Claw AR instead of Trycutter for optimal performance. Furthermore, Customise Grip Base may be used, with its own tip, to allow the use of a Heavy Metal Core, which helps the combo maintain its RPM for more effective upper attack and also helps with controllability. This does, however, come at the cost of survival ability.

Blade Base (BB): Customize Change Base
* Weight: 7 grams

The Customize Change BB is the updated version of SG Metal Change (Driger S). It still has a similar metal change tip that allows it switch modes depending on the angle the tip is at, albeit with a sharper shape, resulting in less aggressive performance. The main difference is that it is taller, weighs 2 grams more, and uses Support Parts, which determine its uses. Due to its taller height, less compact design, and the lack of many useful compact support parts, it is generally outshone by its predecessor.

Though the BB is taller than Metal Change Base, it is still not tall enough to entirely nullify the scraping issues of Upper Attack SP, which can cause large loss of stamina if they make contact with the stadium surface, which sometimes occurs while circling the tornado ridge.

Use in Compact Customisation
While generally outshone by Metal Change Base, it does still find use in compacts, though the only suitable support part is Voltaic Ape’s Defense Ring. The less aggressive performance may appeal to some who are put off by Metal Change Base's aggressive behaviour, but still wish to benefit from the stamina of a metal tip and retain some attack ability.

An example customisation is as follows:

* AR: Tiger Defenser (Driger S)
* WD: Ten Heavy
* SG: Neo Right SG (HMC)
* SP: Defense Ring (Voltaic Ape)
* BB: Customize Change Base

Uncustomised Performance
One thing that Driger V2 is notorious for is its ability to perform extremely well uncustomised. While it is greatly enhanced by the addition of 10 Heavy and a Heavy Metal Core, it is one of the most balanced and powerful uncustomised beyblades ever released, owing to the great synergy of Upper Claw and Upper Attack SP, a balanced base, and the overall weight giving it decent defensive ability. Traditionally, the beyblading community was split between whether Dranzer V2 or Driger V2 was the best uncustomised beyblade from the hugely popular V2 series. While there has never been one true answer, an uncustomised Driger V2 is still a viable choice to this day.

Overall
Driger V2 is famed for its ability to defeat a wide range of opponents with little to no customisation. While its parts alone aren’t particularly powerful, together they form the basis of a very balanced beyblade, and only minor changes are needed to create very useful customisations. That said, the limitations of each individual part, and the fact that even together there are often better choices, means that while it is a very unique, interesting beyblade, it is usually only worth buying once one has already obtained the staple plastic parts.

[If one is just starting out, purchasing either Driger S or Galeon alongside Driger V2, and Metal Driger (Takara) is an excellent way to get into competitive plastics, giving two good combinations (albeit sharing a spin gear and possibly a weight disk) in only three relatively cheap purchases. Driger V2 and Metal Driger work fine together without Driger S/Galeon, however those two beyblades make arguably better use of the HMC, Neo Right Casings, and 10 Heavy/Balance from Driger V2 and Metal Driger.] This looks more like a shopping list than anything else. Driger S and Galeon should already be recommanded in their own article, so I wouldn't include it, but that's not my call, I guess.

CategoryTongue_outlastic Beyblade

A few things, here and there.
I'm working on it, but I'm currently trying to explain the opposite spin upper attack combo thing with it in the wolborg 2 article, which is something that should be resolved before you include it in your draft.

Yeah, the Dragoon V2 article is packed, but as I said, the Full Auto Clutch stuff should probably be removed from it as it is completely impractical either due to height or scraping (depending on which casings you use), Customise Bearing Base does everything better, and Defense Grip Base 2 does everything other than holding SP better.

So yeah "the tip is good heres an attack custom with the base that uses a complicated setup, can't use an HMC, and doesn't actually work, instead of using the actual tip which works better than it anyway"

EDIT: Nocto: Will go through and make those edits later. The scraping issues are greatly over-hyped, there are very few SP-enabled bases that are low enough to cause it (Customise Change Base is the lowest as far as I know, and still doesn't have severe scraping issues), but yeah, that was badly worded, so I'll fix it up. Thanks for the help Smile

EDIT 2: Oh, and as for the inclusion of the purchase consultation part, I thought it was relevant enough to include. The spoilered section after the article contains a proper explanation of why I deemed it relevant, so yeah.

And will do those edits tomorrow, I've exhausted myself to the point my eyes aren't focusing quite right and I have a headache, writing my explanation of a peculiar combo, how it functions, and why it's upper attack over in the Wolborg 2 Rewrite thread.
Hey, th!nk, I just wanted to remind you about that 2 different molds in the Support Part of Driger V2, if you haven't put it in yet; read the article twice and you haven't mentioned it yet. You might want to add that so that people are aware of the 2 molds if people only have one of the 2.

The first SP mold doesn't have extra plastic on the ramps and the 2nd one does to prevent breakage. Wink
I assumed it was part of the takara/hasbro differences, however, the reinforcement appears to not be just a hasbro thing, as I have both molds and both my driger V2's are takara tomy, according to the AR. Given the AR is also reinforced in one, it's probably not a mixup.

Gonna go fix that now. Thanks for making me check!

EDIT: Done. Also mentioned the mold of the base that has a completely sharp tip, and changed the SP combo to a setup that can use an HMC, as well as fixing the erros Nocto pointed out

I may still fiddle with the base section, it still seems a bit under-representative of the bases ability in compacts.
^ Wait, the AR had a mold change as well?! I didn't notice that, since the SP was the one that was easy to spot if you separate the AR from the base and SP.

And I checked the image of Driger V2 on it's Beywiki article, which is the 2nd mold (Takara) and I see no difference on the AR when I was comparing it with my Driger V2, which is the 1st mold (Takara)... Confused
I even double checked the image and the V2 in my hand to make sure.
It's a really small difference, and very hard to see unless you have both of them there and line the ends of the slopes up against each other, but the reinforced mold is slightly taller. There's about a millimetre of extra plastic at the bottom of the wing-slope parts, and a tiny bit extra on the bottom of the head parts.

Oh, and before anyone asks, I'm sure I haven't mixed them up, as the AR of my first one that came with the connected SP was one I used in my Uriel 2 setup, and I swapped to Triple Tiger before the second arrived. Because of how violent that combo is, the one that came with the reinforced SP is quite "battle weary", whereas the other one, which I've barely used, looks much newer.

Also, updated the base section. Shorter, less repetitive, and more accurate.

Edit: fixed the SG, which I took from the original article. It comes with a metal weight version, not S-MG core, don't know why that was in there, unless hasbro released it with that Uncertain Fixed it in the current article as well.

This should be all done bar the formatting, but if anyone thinks they can make it more concise, go for it.|

EDIT2: Updated it again, reworded some stuff that was awkwardly worded, removed the second part of the overall section, etc. Not entirely sure whether to keep the SP-Attack Combo as is or change it to the more practical upper claw to keep things shorter.
Should be pretty much done now Tongue_out

EDIT 3: Okay, replaced the combination in the SP section with one with more competitive value. However, I know the combination there served to make a point, however I don't think the only upper attack combo in the article is the place to make that point, so I mentioned it in the description of the SP.

This allowed me to expand on the main reasons to use Upper Attack SP+Upper Claw over other setups, that is, that they can use a faster base such as Customise Grip base WITH an HMC, and still get under everything. No other AR works as well as upper claw with these SP, and so they're stuck on shorter bases, which are basically storm grip, sg metal flat 2 and Grip base. Storm Grip is almost immobile with an HMC, 10 Heavy and Upper Attack AR, SG Metal Flat 2 is a little too tall to get under some opponents, and Grip Base can't hold an HMC.

Overall section updated again, kept it succinct.
I should be done now, ahah.

EDIT 4: Minor update, according to info on BBDamashii, the red recolour used the later mold of parts, so I mentioned that. I assume around that time Takara would have updated the mold of their other Driger V2's too, which explains the second mold grey takara ones.
This looks fine to me. I'll see about getting it put up.
Sweet. I've done the rest of the formatting for you now, too.
Great update! Only a few minor comments/questions:

Quote:The angle of the slopes change at two points point, and these introduce a certain amount of Upward Smash (that is, Smash Attack that hits at an angle from below, smashing, rather than lifting, the opponent upwards).

I'm not sure what is meant by "the slopes change at two points point".

Make sure terms like "Compact" and "Upper Attack" are capitalized.

Maybe it would be worth expanding slightly on what exactly uncustomized Driger V2 can perform well against?

Other than that, this is ready to go. Good job once again, th!nk.
the points point thing is an error, I'll go fix it.

Uncustomized, it works well against certain compacts (I don't remember off the top of my head which ones), and is able to KO defensively weak opponents pretty well. Much like compacts, it preys on poorly-thought out combinations. IIRC it also outspins the Wolborg 4 defense/survival thing, (Tiger Defense/Wide Defense/Wolborg 4 SG/Base/CEW Part). I'll check it all out tomorrow and write it up.

Should I check back with you once I fix all that, or just go ahead and put it up when I've written those parts?

EDIT: Also just noticed a couple of other things I thought I'd corrected... Maybe an edit didn't go through while my internet was playing up the other week...

Noooo, really? I abused that combo so much at PLASTIC'S NOT DEAD! last year LOL.

You can go ahead and update the article now if you want, then add in the changes whenever you get them. Just be sure to post here when you do that.
Yeah, it doesn't do so well against right spin in general, actually, it's quite odd, as that should help charge the SG, but having a free-spinning ring is far more useful, I guess. In left spin it basically functions as a zombie (as a proper wolborg should).
There's only one or two combos that can beat it in left, I have a wolborg 4 draft in the works too, haha.

Okay, will go put it up, I'll just make sure all the capitalisation and so on is done, and post it up, thanks Smile

I will check those things out tomorrow/when people get up if I can't sleep in the next few hours, and let you know when I update the article Smile
It could stand to mention that although almost entirely worthless as a sub-genre of attack the AR is one of the only Force Smash parts ever made.
I realised that when I was looking into force smash, and then forgot it when I rewrote the darned article, and went with the original "smash in left spin" over my own instinct of "this isn't gonna do much damage in left spin maybe I should look at it better"

I'll edit it into the article when I get home, thanks Smile

Glad to have you posting again, especially about plastics Smile
