Discussion: Age-restricted events (Under 13 and 18+ tournaments)

I've seen a few Organizers discussing the WBO allowing or denying events with age restrictions, particularly those that are under 13 (trying to mimic the official regular-class events held in Asia) and 18+ events (trying to cater to adults only).

I am curious to hear what the wider community's thoughts are, but personally I only see advantages for under 13 events. Besides the value that the manufacturer sees in providing a kids-only space for a kids toy, there does seem to be a greater gap in under 13 attendance for events, and the physical strength needed for gameplay.

Adults-only events don't seem to provide any advantage to the player experience by excluding kids, except perhaps venue restrictions. To me it does seem a bit absurd to exclude kids from what is a kids' hobby, and there have definitely been cases of kids being fully grown adults.

It would be sensible to me personally, for a regular-class and open-class structure similar to official B4, and having 18+ restricted to certain exceptions only (like venue restrictions).
The ratio of such events will have to depend on local demographics in the area... etc etc... I know in Asia there are already enough competitive grade under-13s that a lack of suffient players to justify under 13 tournaments isnt a problem.

Honestly I think if there are age restriction tournaments it should only really be 18+ tournaments.

We don’t really know the ratio of bladers under the age of 13 in areas Beyblade or tournaments aren’t as widespread compared to Asia’s kid blader demographic.

So I think over 18 tournaments are better than just 13+ tournaments. This is coming from a young blader too, in my area atleast, I don’t really know if there are enough young bladers.

Not that I am against under 13 events. Honestly I am all for it. I just wonder how it can actually perform. It would be nice though for kids who may be scared to go against adult bladers.

To put it short I feel mostly neutral but I am leaning towards positive for under 13 tournaments and also 18+ tournaments. I don’t think though it should twist/take over our current style in full
O man and I had some students I trained them and there gonna be mad cause of the new rule o well thanks for the informacion

This isn't a new rule. it's a discussion. Nothing is set in stone yet. There is quite literally nothing to get mad about, it doesn't exist.
If 18+ means adult oriented(like being able to use more mature language, for example), then I'm for it, even as a kid myself. If it just serves as an age gate and the event still has to follow the WBO rules, then no, that's dumb, especially for Beyblade of all things.

12 and under seems more justifiable imo. Mostly because younger kids don't have enough muscle development to really control their launches; they're either underpowered as heck or they have to launch unga-bunga style and sacrifice control for a good launch, this is coming from having to judge younger bladers. There's more things I could list, but that's the best one I could think of.
At my events I run a "Juniors" tournament for kids 12 and under alongside the main event, still giving kids the option to join the main tournament if they wish. This worked well and allowed me to use 1on1 ft4 so its more accessible for kids and faster for parents. Though I very rarely get enough kids attending to run it anymore, usually only 2-4, I think because its no longer summer holidays.

As for 18+ events, while I agree that theres no advantage to player experience, running an event which caters to kids requires taking on the responsibility to create a space that is safe for them, and I can understand organisers not wanting to take on that responsibility.
I don't think this should be the standard. Though we could just do an under 12 event and have the option to join the main event

O thank you
we've had 8-15 year olds beat 18-30 year olds at our events and event I've been too. I see no reason to ruin the fun for the target demographic.

But it also depends. Can you get enough of both age brackets for 2 tournaments, do you have enough judges for that and access to a building for that etc etc. Just doesn't seem worth it.
