Chapter 3
----------------------
Hello everyone! This is a new story I'm working on. Don't worry, my other story will be finished. I plan on making about 10-15 chapters in Boundaries: Crossed and about 15-20 on The Shadows of the Condemned. The next chapter will be up soon!

“Hm.†I try my hardest to focus on my current assignment, but I'm too lazy to do so. Instead of looking at my paper, I look at a cool-looking monarch butterfly. It’s cool-looking, because it’s glowing purple and is leaving trails of blue light.
“What the…?†I close my eyes and shake my head, and then look again. It’s gone. Weird.
I look at my paper again, and see the purple butterfly again! I quickly reach out for it, but I hit the paper. I look at my palm to see if there’s blood, but there’s none. I look at the paper and the butterfly has vanished, Really weird.
Now, instead of just sitting here looking like some idiot, I’ll start on my assignment. Time for the first question, which is where you input your name. I start to write down “Remiel Davis†with a black-inked pen. I try to start on the next question, but my head gets cloudy every time I don't really want to think so I find it hard. My curiosity is piqued with that butterfly, though, so I boot up my laptop.
I type "purple butterfly". Google gives off multiple results, but none of them show what I have just seen. Eh, I could care less.
I go back to my homework, trying to solve the first question which is about history, I think: “Who invented ketchup and when?" it says. Of course, the answer is “In the 1690’s and by the Chinese†but that's just from the top of my head. After this question, I try to switch on to the next but I immediately get bored. I slump back to my chair, my laziness starting to get the best of me. I don't want to rest yet; I have a lot more energy from my reserves.
I stand up, strap on my watch and wear some pants. I put on my shoulder bag and walk off my room. My house has two floors, on the second floor four rooms reside, of one which is mine.
I go downstairs, and directly in front of the stairs is the door to freedom. To my right is a living room, where my little sister is watching “My Little Pony†or something. To my left is my mom, whom I will try to escape.
I wait for a few seconds, and then rush out the door. I have successfully escaped capture. Where am I heading to, you ask? I’m going to my best friend, Kevin Cyoa, who has a lot more tech than me. Me and Kevin were friends since elementary, and we have been inseparable. We fought almost all the time, yeah, but we’re impossible to pull apart. This one time my mom wanted to move out of the place we’re in, but I rebelled and stayed in Kevin’s house until she decided not to go.
I make a right turn on the next block. The place we’re in is not pretty big, and I’m saying that because we live in a remote island off the coast of California. Only the government knows and funds this island, so it has its own school, buildings and all of that. Thing is, people are not supposed to talk about this place outside the island. So it is invisible to the average person. I don't know why the government chose only "select" people to stay here.
I walk a few more steps and I see that I'm in front of Kevin's household. I like his place, because he has a PS3, which I don't have, and a lot more.
I open his door and see that nobody's inside. I walk in and close the door. Even though it seems nobody is inside, I can hear gun shots (from a television, of course.) which means that Kevin is playing. I rush to his room, and open the door, immediately seeing Kevin. He is a lot shorter than me, but he is smarter too. He sees me and smiles.
"Hey bro. What's up?" He says. His hair is upturned and he has his headphones on. He's wearing a black breast jacket with a white shirt underneath. His shorts and sneakers combo make him look weird.
"Man, I'm bored. Can we play something?" I ask. He smiles, nods and then moves to his PS3.
"Take one." He lends me a controller and we play some Playstation All-Stars. It's a fun game, actually. We play for a long time, stopping occasionally, until twelve in the evening.
"I need to go, Kev. Mom's gonna kill me." I say, standing up. He pauses the game and stands up as well.
"You better run, because it's midnight already." He says. I nod and start to head out, only to find it raining outside. Dammit. I walk back inside, I didn't want to walk anymore anyway.
"Can I stay here for the night?" I ask. He thinks for a while, and then sheepishly nods.
"Sure."
----------------------------------------
I wake up to several birds singing. I look at Kevin's clock with sleepy eyes. It's nine o' clock, early enough for me. I put on my jacket and shoes on and start to head out. Today's morning is pretty cold and dark. I run to my house, thinking if I sneaked back in I wouldn't get caught.
I go around behind my house, slowly walking so that nobody would wake up. I try to hook onto a ledge. Once I do, I pull myself up, doing the same thing with the other ledges, until I reach my window. I slide the window open, and try to climb inside until I hear a loud gunshot making me cringe. The gunshot was followed by searing pain through my right hip. I look and see blood gushing out like a fountain.
"What...?" I put an arm on my hip. It stings like hell. I suddenly feel most of my nerves going limp, making me lose grip on the window. I plummet to the ground, hitting the green grass bellow. I look to my right, and see the green being turned to red. My eyes start to fall, but I make one last attempt to look at who shot me.
It was my dad.

I come to in a room. I look around, and see syringes and bags probably meaning that I'm in a hospital. There's no sight of my family anywhere. I touch my right hip. Once I do, it sears with pain. The gunshot wound is still there which brings me to a question. Why did my dad shoot me? I think I understand though. It was probably because he thought of me as a thief, and since it was still very dark outside, he couldn't see well. If the daylight was on, he would've seen my face. I guess he rushed me to a hospital.
"Ow!" I grunt. Pain shoots through me every time I try to get up, forcing me to slump back in bed. I look around once more and it seems that I’m in a secluded room. Various machines are set up to the right and machines for entertainment, such as the TV, is set up to the left. The TV shows the most seen movie of our year: Avengers 2, which was shown just this 2015. 2015 has been a real mess, though. Since the scientists are finding new ways of cultivating and destroying our lands, the government has been asking much from the people and they have begun to riot. Nuclear wars have been starting to engage as well, stopping most forms of entertainment to get ready for the destruction to come. Because of these reasons, people have started speculating that the end of the world is coming soon and it’s not hard to see why.
“Remiel Davis? Mr. Remiel Davis?†I look around to see where that voice came from. The voice seemed to be innocent and childish and seems to come from a girl.
“Don’t worry, Mister. I won’t hurt you.†I see a girl materialize in front of the doot. Her sparkly blue eyes seem to sparkle from the sunlight reflecting off of them. She seems like a pure soul with her pale skin and all white dress.
“What are you doing here, kid?†I ask her, doing my best to sit up. She smiles and comes closer, her hands behind her at all times and her blonde hair that is tied into a ponytail flailing around.
“You are Mr. Remiel Davis from California now transferred to the remote island of Accipex. Born from the year of 1999. You are also greatly acquainted with Kevin Cyoa who is born from the same year. Judging from the personality scans from your previous school years, you have been proven to be very lazy, yet a critical thinker. You are interesting.†She says in one fell swoop. My eyes open and my jaw drops. What is she?
“Is something wrong with you, kid?†I ask. How does she know all this stuff about me? Also, I am not lazy. Only sometimes. She leans very close to me and looks into my eyes.
“Target confirmed.†She pulls back her arm and then thrusts, right into my eye. Yep, my eye. I scream in pain as blood gushes from my eye once again. I have lost a lot of blood. I grab her arm and try to push her off, but she’s like steel and I can’t. My brain starts to give in to the pain, and my consciousness starts to drift to black.

Spoiler (Click to View)
I hear a voice resonate inside of my head, sound waves vibrating off the walls of my cranium.
Wait.
How?
I wake up drenched in cold sweat. Judging from where I am, I’m not in a hospital anymore, since it is pitch-black. It takes a while for my eyes to get used to the darkness going, because I hit wood once I try to get up. Wood? I feel around to see what place I’m in. A wall is centimeters to my right and left. I lift my feet, but I hit wood again. From what I’m feeling, there are sharp outer points to my right and left, like a diamond. I think hard to remember a diamond shaped box capable of fitting humans inside.
Then it hits me.
A coffin.
The thought of it suffocates me. Now is the only time I realize that I’m running out of air. I put both my hands on the wood and push. Surprisingly, the top bounces off, as if I’ve hit it really hard. I pop out my head and take a huge gasp of air.
“Where am I?†I ask to myself. I look around, and see different coffins. I’m in a morgue! I jump out and start to run, trying to find an exit but to no avail. Everything I hit is a wall.
“What’s wrong, Mister?†I hear the innocent voice once again. I turn around and see the girl again. “Why are you running?â€
“I’m running because I’m in a place of dead people and that’s really creepy.†My haste is clouding my mind. I stop running and clear my head, remembering her.
“You!†I say, walking toward her with my finger pointed. “You killed me, didn’t you?†I say. Now, wait, that’s impossible. I’m alive and running! She gives me a look of concern.
“Maybe you need to go to the mental facility?†She says with her head bobbing to the side.
“Maybe you should! What did you do to me? You thrust your hand into my eye and then what?†I normally don’t shout much, but now is an exception.
She sighs. “It’s true, you’re dead to everyone else. You’re alive, but they all assume you’re dead.†She smiles after saying this. I can’t believe this girl. I put my hands on my head.
“Something’s wrong with you.†I say, laughing a little. This is all a good prank and all, but it has gone too far. “All right everyone, bring out the cameras.â€
“Oh no, Mister Remiel everything that happened is real. You did feel the pain when I transplanted the Crux Genome into you, right?†She says. I have no idea what she’s talking about right now and I’m completely lost. Why did she start talking about genomes? Why did she now everything about me? How did I end up in a coffin? Why am I dead? I shake my head and close my eyes. Of course, this is all an illusion and I will end up in my bedroom, doing my homework and looking at pretty purple butterflies.
But when I open my eyes, she’s still there, smiling even. I frown, and my desperation and rejection all turn to hate and anger.
“What did you do to me?!†I burst. She closes her eyes, covers her ears and screams. My anger dissipates once she stands up, transformed into a tall lady with blonde hair wearing a jumpsuit. I look at her, heavily breathing.
“Nothing darling. I just turned you into one of our most powerful weapons against the Pales. By injecting the Crux Genome, you have gained a power or powers that we have yet to determine.†She says. I end up looking like an idiot in front of her. What is she talking about? And since when did tall women in jumpsuits become racists?
“Excuse me?†I say. She scoffs, and then brings out a long object with reflective glass on it. Ehem, a mirror.
“Take a look into this mirror.†She says. I have no idea what’s going on, but I’ll ride.
“I hath no objections.†I quietly say. I look into the mirror which, even though being only a small circle, shows my whole body. My messy, curly black hair which fall over my forehead and red eyes (which I could’ve sworn were brown) reflect off the glass. My slouched form shows; my purple jacket and black cargo pants show as well.
“When did my eyes turn red?†I ask. She smiles, but she shakes her head.
“Questions later. Now, what do you see?†She asks.
“Myself.â€
“Good, now,†she snaps her fingers. “what do you see?†The mirror has turned black and is showing my form, but a weird hypnotizing purple and red combination fills it.
“Reds and purples?†I say. She smiles and returns the mirror.
“Punch that wall.†She orders. What the hell? How am I supposed to do that?
“Why? I’ll die again.†I say.
“Maybe you will die if you don’t punch that wall.†She says. I sigh and nod. I go closer to the wall, which has a very smooth texture but a dull gray color. Hate to break it.
“Alright?†I take in a deep breath. I reluctantly strike the wall as fast as I could but as soft as I could, hoping I can fake it. To my surprise, the wall breaks open to my weak jab. A hole now is in front of me, providing me a route outside. But I just stare, dumbfounded.
From the corner and peak of my hearing, I hear the woman talking: “Practice has just begun.â€
