Chapter. 4
You were supposed to meet me at the - â€
“I know… I know… I was meant to meet you at the forest for an assignment.†Ace finished.
“Yes that’s right! Everyone from the Hatawari family has to prove themselves worthy of the name, they are sworn to protect and guard the legends of the sky! And you know very well that when a member of the family turns 13, he… or she… has to take 5 assignments to prove they are worthy of keeping one of the sky beasts!†barked Acele. “And what’s more embarrassing is that even Shiro is on his third assignment, whereas you’re still stuck on your second. I mean he’s TWO years younger than you!â€
Ace was angry, and he let his top burst, “LOOK! I just came running across the city, through a thick forest, got myself bruised and battered, which was my fault, but the point is that PLEASE SHOW SOME CONCERN FOR ME!!â€
“Fine… your new assignment is that you have to beat me in three things. Every one completes one assignement…†murmured Acele.
Suddenly, Ace was interested; He looked up, his face full of curiosity.
“Number one: Beat me in a race. Number 2: Beat me in archery. And last but not least, you must beat me… in a beybattle!†she ordered. “Prepare yourself Ace Hatawari! Tomorrow will be the toughest day in your life.â€
The next day, Ace woke up at 5am. He went outside into the forest and started training. In an hour, when his sister woke up, he had done 50 sit ups, a mile run around the fort, and 30 jumps from one tree branch to another, which had all in all given him one or two cuts from stumbles.
Ace walked back to the tree fort to pick up Soaring Phoenix, and noticed Acele was waiting outside. He ran in, took his bey, and ran out, quick as a flash. The brother and sister walked together to the shrine, to take their blessings from the sacred shield.
Ace had heard of the legend, but he’d never taken it seriously until the incident. The legend was that the shield guarded 4 sacred beasts of the sky, and would hold them until they were one day needed. 2 had escaped, and were never found. One was in Ace’s beyblade. He could still remember where it happened… He was about to die from a car crash with his parents. Then, a giant light appeared and covered Ace, leaving him unscathed and alive, only to find that his parents were dead…
They both walked in silence to the fort again until they reached the track. It was a jagged path filled with poisonous plants and wires and traps. Which left only one option – you had to take the trees. They both climbed a suitable tree for the race and readied themselves – there was no strap to hold them onto, just outright jumping from one branch to the other.
“Okay Acele, let’s go!†yelled Ace.
“What are you talking about? I said it’s a race, but I didn’t say what kind – you have to race with your beyblade!†she said.
“WHAT!? Awesome! Now I’m absolutely psyched up… I’m gonna beat you in all the events sis, ‘cause me and Soaring Phoenix can beat anyone!†Ace yelled.
“Alright then, if you’re so confident, we’ll skip the first two events and get straight to the beybattle. If you win that, you’ll have completed your 3 assignments,†said Acele. “However, as we aren’t doing the first two, the beybattle will be a different one… The first rule is that you must keep your beyblade can not touch the ground. The second rule is that we have to stay on the trees. And the third and most important rule is… the match is to be one by one’s will… which means you must end the match with one hit!â€
Ace nodded and readied his launcher. Acele followed. They both attached their beys and launched; neither of them could afford to lose concentration. Soaring Phoenix landed on the edge of a branch; Ace balanced himself on his own branch. Now, every move he did, would be followed by his beyblade… his instincts and reflexes would be taken to the extreme this time.
On the other hand Acele’s bey, stood ground on its branch for a moment, then quickly dashed up to a higher position. In less than 2 minutes, her beyblade was on top of the tree, and safe from any attack.
Both blades stood where they were… Ace and Acele knew that it was extremely hard to finish a battle in one move, so they had both decided to make each other sleep out. Ace knew that Acele had a slight advantage… her bey was a stamina type, and his was an attack. He devised a plan; it was risky, very risky, but if it worked, he’d win.
Acele was well prepared too. As soon as Ace moved, her ney jumped from the top of the tree and onto his branch, stopping any movement.
“You can’t run away from me Ace… I won’t let you!†she yelled, as she slashed her hand down.
In an instant, her beyblade responded by jumping from Ace’s branch to the one on top. It then dived towards Soaring Phoenix. Ace smiled as he realised that his sister had taken the bait. Ace quickly shot his hand sideways; Like Acele’s bey, Soaring Phoenix dashed to the side. Acele gasped in shock as she saw her beyblade dive into a branch, it’s attack ring smashing into it.
“Great work Soaring Phoenix,†said Ace, “Now let’s finish this! GO! SKY DIVE MIRAGE!†yelled Ace as his Soaring Phoenix leaped into the sky and struck Acele’s bey, pushing it through the branch.
