hi guys, i'm making a new story.
your opinions and ideas are welcome.
SO here it is...
Chapter 1:
The helicopter landed. Two figures walked out. The first had short brown hair, wore a hoodie and tracksuit. He was about sixteen. The other wore a black vest, a dark red cloak/cape, and dark blue jeans. He was also sixteen. The first one whispered something to the other and the second one raised his arms dramatically and stated something in a strange language. The ground shook violently like an earthquake. He smirked as the ground in the park was torn apart. Light burst out. A bey floated from the rip. He snatched it and stared greedily. The first person just stood there, trying to keep his balance.
“Overlord Fornox DS145 FB,†he growled. The two figures jumped back into the helicopter as it flew away. The crack in the ground grew and grew...
The next day there was one main story on the news. An earthquake, that left a tear in the ground, had hit BeyPark, devouring all the BeyStadiums there too. It looked like a disaster zone. The grass looked stale and distorted, the BeyStadiums were charred and the rip was glowing red. It looked terrible. I couldn’t help but think that it had something to do with that black helicopter. The most mysterious thing was that the crack was hot, no flaming even. I saw another person on the opposite side of the crater, inspecting it like me. He had a strange tattoo on the back of his hand. But why?
“Hey,†I shouted, running over to him, “do you know anything about this?†As soon as he heard me, he ran away. I chased him. I ran, losing my breath quickly. Before I knew it I was in a desolate street, which full of suspicious characters, where I’d never been before. I was thinking already ‘Why did I do this? It’s pointless’. This guy was beating me like I was a baseball. He took a right into a deserted warehouse. I paused in front of the door and thought about the situation. Whoever he was, I was certain he knew something about the earthquake. Rapidly, I prepared my launcher and beyblade for protection. I slammed the door open. What I saw shocked me.
Inside the warehouse was a furnace. The wooden walls gave refuge to a massive furnace, giving the whole room an orange glow. The person I’d seen earlier was opposite me, on the other side. I could see him clearer now, he had had short brown hair, wore a hoodie and tracksuit. He was about sixteen. The tattoo was a flame emblem. He had his launcher in position for a Beybattle. I followed where he was aiming. To my surprise in the centre of the hall was a BeyStadium.
“Look, I don’t wanna battle,†I told him, “I just want to-â€
“The Cold Fire will destroy you and your puny planet.†he leered. I took no time to decide. I had to-
“LET IT RIP†we screamed as we fired our beys. At first they both circled the arena edge, like a dog chasing its tail. The battle was obviously going to drone on. I did what I had to do.
“Special Move:†I yelled, “Arrow Strikeâ€. My bey finally made contact as it smashed the opponent’s bey, a red blur as it did so. The plan backfired. As I hit the orange bey, which was starting to slow down, it ricocheted off the stadium wall, firing into mine. My spin was depleted badly. It only took one final hit. The other bey shot my bey straight at my ribs. I fell to the tepid floor. The other guy picked up his bey and walked towards me.
“The Cold Fire burns all.â€

Chapter 1- The Earthquake
The night fell quickly over BeyPark. The last few bladers were beginning to leave. A black helicopter flew across the dark skyline. I looked at my bey, Hunt Orion S100 RF, as it glinted off the streetlight. Then my gaze shifted to the oddly quiet helicopter. It was landing. Why was it here this late? I walked away, trying to avoid thinking about it.The helicopter landed. Two figures walked out. The first had short brown hair, wore a hoodie and tracksuit. He was about sixteen. Chapter 2- So You're Dead Now
The first thing I saw was a girl looking over me worriedly. I tried to get up, but my I felt a pain in my chest as soon as I got upright and groaned back down to the bed. The bed I was on was soft and warm. I looked up at the girl at my side. She had long blonde hair flowing down her back like a comet. Her eyes were blue like water.
“Are you okay?†asked the girl. “I was so worried.â€
“Who are you? Where am I?†I questioned
“Well, I’m Claire. You’re in my house. You were badly hurt from that Beybattle and when I saw you, I took you in and healed you.â€She put her hand on my chest. “You’ll be fine.†A few minutes later, I fell asleep again.
The dream started off with the guy who almost killed me and someone I’d never seen before in a dark room. The new person was tied to a chair.
“What kind of monster are you?†the person in the chair cried
“Ha, I’m Mephiles, personal servant of the Cold Fire,†he chuckled, “and you are my hostage.â€Mephiles had the same mark on his hand. It seemed like a blurry vision, not something in the present but the past... or future. Then my vision shifted. I was in an old-fashioned room from about twelve years ago. I saw a younger version of Claire: happy and with her family. Then it all went wrong. Ghosts appeared in a flash of light. I saw Mephiles leading the crowd. A thousand Beyblades were launched at once at her parents and siblings. They were soon dead. Mephiles launched his orange and black bey at young Claire. She flinched in horror. Then a figure appeared and stopped the bey with his hand. He wore a black vest, a dark red cloak/cape, and dark blue jeans. He was sixteen.
“We must keep the girl, Mephiles.†He bellowed.
“Ye-yes my Lord Helios.†Mephiles muttered. Then the ghosts left in a puff of smoke.
I awoke once again. Claire was reading a book. The language was different, but she was really into it. She realised I was awake. Then I remembered the.
“Where are your parents?†I requested. She hesitated. “Don’t answer if you don’t want to.â€
“No, you’re my friend. My-†she paused again. “My only friend.†I felt for her. I wasn’t too popular at school either. “My parents died when I was young. I had to live in solitude my entire life.†I put my hand on her back to calm her.
“Anyway I guess you’ll be going.†She mumbled as a tear fell down her cheek. She looked at the bey on her desk: Psychic Cygnus W185 SD.
“You can come with me if you want.†I offered. I soon had a new Beyblade partner and she seemed happier than ever. We moved onto the streets, searching for Mephiles. I was putting her in even more danger than ever.

Chapter 3- I’m Embarrassed So I Kill a Unicorn
It all started walking down the street with my new friend, Claire. We were walking down to BeyPark to test her bey, Psychic Cygnus W185 SD, against my Hunt Orion S100 RF. Claire never used her bey; afraid its psychic powers might be dangerous. We were there searching for a stadium to use as the park was overloaded with bladers. The crack in the ground, which was even bigger than before, was still there and Claire stared at it. Eventually, we found a single Attack Stadium. Smiling, we prepared our beys, but that grin ended when I saw, in the corner of my eye, someone watching us carefully from a tree like an undercover agent.
“3-2-1-Let it rip!†We shouted. Cygnus was launched into the centre of the stadium, while Orion was launched onto the edge of the arena. I was going to lose. Luckily, I slide shot sending it into the centre in a flower pattern. Cygnus’ wall on the spin track protected it. I was on track to lose again. I closed my eyes. The spring in my spin track!
“Go, Orion, Flying Arrow!†I ordered with a glint of hope in my eyes. Orion spiralled into the air using the spring in its spin track, soon landing on Cygnus’ Metal Wheel, making it lose its balance. My Orion was just as in danger of losing as Cygnus. That was before one thing: a special move.
“Cygnus; Elegant Air Attack.†declared Claire sending Cygnus about to smash into my bey using its wall but when it did I used my spring once more. Cygnus’ attack was so strong it sent me to a wall, which Orion sprung off to hit Cygnus making it fly out of the arena. I won.
“That was awesome!†Claire yelled to the crowded BeyPark. I think my cheeks went red with embarrassment. I looked around; it went from deafeningly loud to silent quicker than I could eat a burger. I smiled.
“Yeah,†I laughed, “it was awesome.†Eventually, everyone returned to their battles and so did we. I was on top of the world (and not just because I was winning). I was just beyblading with a friend, but I felt... happy. We played until sunset and when we stopped we watched it on a hill. It looked like an explosion of fiery colours in the sky.
â€Isn’t the sunset beautiful?†she asked in awe.
“Yeah.†I droned. It was then I realised my hand was on hers. We both knew, but did nothing about it. Suddenly, behind us, there was a BANG!
I watched as the two bladers broke into a battle. That’s when I saw his face. The two people in my dream: there they were. Helios had the same mark as Mephiles but on his head: I remembered him saving Claire. The one who Mephiles was torturing was right there too with a look of anger on his scarred face. I was quick to a conclusion and launched my bey.
“I’m helping you Helios.†I stated while Helios scanned me.
“Dylan,†he bellowed, “I don’t need help.â€
“Why are you helping him?†The other guy was outraged. I then concentrated on the battle. The beys clashed fiercely. All three were equally matched. Claire was hushed.
“Go, Arrow Strike!†I shrieked and made a huge Smash Attack on the other guy’s bey, keeping Helios’ bey unharmed. His spin stopped
“You idiot!†He howled. I could see his bey well now; Storm Unicorno MD95 XF
“Now,†chuckled Helios, “STARBLAST SPIRAL!†The final light from the sunset bounced off Helios’ bey into deadly rays. Luckily, my Orion was spinning so it just flew out of the ring: it completely burned the idle Unicorno. I finally pieced it together. Mephiles worked for Helios. Helios was even more evil than Mephiles. Unicorno’s owner was crying over his burned bey, Claire comforting him.
“He didn’t want to improve the Human Race. He didn’t want to leave this dying planet. The Cold Fire is going to help the Humans. He wanted to die on this polluted world.â€Then Helios was gone.
I had killed Unicorno.

Chapter 4- CSI: Kai-ami
The boy just sat there, clutching his burning Unicorno. I saw the beast come alive, a perfectly kept white unicorn, and it was dying. Tears trickled down the boy’s cheeks.
“C’mon Claire, you healed me; heal him.†I demanded. Claire hesitated, but she did it. She asked if he was okay and he nodded. Then Claire put her hand on his head.
“Demarko,†she added, “you’re distraught, torn, stressed.â€
“My name. You know my-â€
“Look, I’m psychic.â€
“So is that how Helios knew my name?†I asked. Claire nodded.
“I got it from my bey. Helios stole my father’s bey and ate it. HE’s psychic now.â€
“Wait. If Helios is sixteen now, and your sixteen too, how did he save you when you were little?†I questioned.
“How do you know about-†Claire screamed.
“Time Travel,†Demarko interrupted, “Helios used time travel.â€
Finally Demarko healed with his bey. It turned out Demarko was from the WBO, a secret spy agency of super powerful bladers trying to protect the world from evil. He was a special agent, trying to get evidence as to what Helios was doing. He explained that Helios and Mephiles were leaders of the Cold Fire. Helios was much stronger than Mephiles so Helios claimed emperor. He was psychic, like Claire, but he could plant thoughts into brains as well and make force fields, blow up lightsabers etcetera. But his plan was still a mystery.
“He said he would ‘Improve the human race’ and ‘leave this dying planet’.†I added. Demarko shrugged his shoulders.
“Don’t know how he travelled through time either.â€
“So why did he save Claire.†We looked at her picking up a flower.
“Hey, I don’t know everything.†Demarko commented. “Anyway it’s not good. We have to track him down. He’s murdered half of the WBO.†I grabbed my bags, swiftly.
“Claire, the warehouse,†I muttered speedily, “show Demarko where it is.â€
We ran. Through the mysterious streets, under the watch of the moon and the stars, we ran. Soon enough we were at the warehouse. I was reluctant to go in. My parents would be worried so I phoned them up and lied that I was sleeping over at a friend’s. Then we wasted no time in breaking in. I observed in the darkness. Red graffiti littered the walls, saying stuff like ‘get out now’ or ‘don’t stay anymore’. I saw someone in front of me: me!
“Go back!†The vision shouted. “Just go-†Then it disappeared. The three of us exchanged looks. Our hearts were beating like drums from fear. Demarko brought out a flashlight.
“Always prepared.†He whispered. I heard a scream and looked back. I saw Demarko doing the same thing, but Claire was gone.
I shivered. We had been looking for Claire for hours now. It must’ve been midnight, but there were no windows to check with. We used the flashlight to see around the warehouse. It seemed that it was surrounded by giant bats. We didn’t question it. Eventually, we arrived at the furnace room where I battled Mephiles and guess who I saw? Mephiles was waiting there patiently with an annoyed Helios and a confused Claire.
“Give her back!†I yelled. I wanted to beat them both up however they were on the opposite side. Mephiles set up his bey.
“Claire,†Helios uttered sternly, “set up your launcher and bey.â€
“No!†Claire sobbed. It was then I realised she was chained by her legs to the furnace. The chain shortened slightly, dragging her in. She screamed.
“YOU WILL BATTLE.†insisted Helios looking into her eyes this time. Her eyes glowed. She lifted her launcher and fitted her bey. I noticed the mark of the fire on her arm: the one on Mephiles and Helios. I scrambled for my bey and launcher.
“3-2-1- Let it rip.†We hollered. All four beys clashed in the middle, they broke their bond apart after a few seconds and danced on the stadium floor. Unicorno attacked Cygnus, but Mephiles’ bey, Hellios Infernios 85 HF, got in the way projecting Unicorno at my bey. WE both weakened. I attacked Infernios. His defence was amazing. Cygnus smashed into Unicorno. Cygnus chased Unicorno, always keeping contact. I tried to interfere; Mephiles didn’t let me.
“Infernios, Blazing Heat.†ranted Mephiles. Infernios set on fire and whizzed around the stadium. Helios studied even though he wasn’t battling. Infernios demolished my bey, sending it flying. But I gave it a run for its money and stopped it in its tracks. Unicorno gyrated around the full arena edge, shattering against Infernios. Only Claire and Demarko remained.
“Come on Claire,†I begged, “fight it. You’re being hypnotised.†For a few seconds I think I saw the real Claire break out. Then her eyes glowed again.
“Cygnus, Elegant Air Attack.†Claire shouted. Cygnus zoomed like an Olympic sprinter into Unicorno. Just when the wall in her spin track made Unicorno motionless; her metal wheel smashed down. It was over. They won.
“Claire, please, don’t go. Fight it. Don’t leave your friends.†I pleaded. She almost walked over to us.
“No. The Cold Fire is my friends.†Helios put out his hand and the shackles on her feet were unlocked. Mephiles left with Claire.
“She’s gone and you will be gone too soon.†Helios mumbled. I saw Demarko faint. I soon joined him.

Chapter 5- Jailbreak
I awoke, Demarko by my side eating some cereal-like substance. Recalling what had happened before we blacked out. I remembered the image of Claire leaving us to die under the hand of Mephiles; I remembered too much. I surveyed the surrounding area. We seemed to be in a damp cell, which looked like its rightful place was in a prison. The door of the grey room was ajar, allowing escape at any moment, however Demarko remained seated.
“Where are we, Demarko?†I quizzed
Demarko responded “We’ve been kidnapped.â€
I was confused. We were dead, killed by Mephiles. I tried to settle and ease my troubles, but they just came back. My answers arrived in the form of a seventeen year old boy.
“I see you’ve been waiting for me.†he noted. “I’m Yaron.â€
“Yeah, yeah. Why am I here though?†I ignored.
“That’s a nice way to thank the one who saved you.†Yaron announced sarcastically. He told me about how he transported my and Demarko’s aura from being destroyed by Mephiles and how he was fighting the cold fire too. Then he asked us a favour: a very dangerous favour.
Yaron began.
“That crater in the ground at BeyPark; it’s not a crater, but a black hole.†He explained. “And it’s changing history.†Demarko and I exchanged looks, unsure of the favour he was asking.
“You need to fix Earth.†He added.
“How?†I butted. Yaron lifted his bey and launcher to set them up at sloped partition of the floor.
“This is ‘how’.†I had entered a Beybattle I couldn’t win.
The beys started up, ripping up the floor and ramming into each other.
“Aura Shinika, Aura Blast!†Yaron boomed in a deep voice. Shinika’s tip, HF/2S, grew to a sharp base. Suddenly its performance morphed, shooting it into the centre and creating a fierce battle for the arena heart. The next thing that happened was completely unpredictable: it altered once more, turning it into attack mode. Zooming around the arena border, Aura Shinika was pounding my Orion. Its final hope to win, thanks to an arousing Aura Blast, was a long barrage of attacks. So Orion tried to keep constant contact, pursuing Shinika wherever it went until it succeeded to destabilize Shinika.
“Now, Flying Arrow!â€I yowled. Orion soared into the air, to only crash down again on Yaron’s Aura Shinika. The strange thing was that he awaited the moment eagerly and smugly. Both of us were disappointed as a blue bey darted into the way.
“Burning Claw Smash!†A young lady’s voice called, sending a Burning Eagle MS90 EMS between the two beys, returning them to their owners and halting the battle at its pivotal moment.
“Go, now!†the girl shouted to us. Demarko and I were in no place to complain and bolted to an exit to our gloomy prison. I kept recalling those words: ‘It’s not a crater, but a black hole...

Chapter 6- The Bling Bey
For the next few days I had a recurring dream that ‘I was being sucked into a black hole and taken away from Claire and Demarko’. That’s how bad it was. Almost getting killed doesn’t leave your conscience that promptly. I felt ill. I couldn’t Beyblade. It was a time of darkness. Millions of burdens were circling my head: where was Claire; who was the guy that kidnapped us; who saved us from him and what favour did the guy want. I decided to walk around the town; some time to think. I gazed out of the window despairingly to see a spiral of darkness twirling into the sky.
Cool: that was the only word that could be used to describe Kadel. He swaggered down the road like he was the most important guy in the world. All the girls fell for him with all his good looks and bey making skills. He did have a bey (a homemade one), although he wasn’t the best at blading. I admired him though; he started at the poorhouse and came to the richest teenager in the city. He made his success after his parents died. No money, no family, he started fixing beys for a living. Soon enough he knew so much about beys that he could make his own. So he used that skill for a profit too and sold unofficial beys, eventually making one so powerful that he kept it. Bling Razzor 80 XHF was the m, but its skill was not fully realized most wanted bey. A gold metal wheel with a sprinkle of diamond dust on the silver-coloured clear wheel as well as a hard gloss on the spin track and a limestone carved tip made up the most expensive bey in the world. Even so the pressure always got to him and he just about fell short of winning whenever he battled.
I noticed a commotion at BeyPark, one involving Kadel. He just couldn’t win! I looked at the crater; it was bigger but otherwise no different from before. There was no black hole, while the rate it was growing at was disturbing. I went over to the group of people to investigate the problem and, if possible, fix it.
“Hey you!†someone yelped, it was one of Kadel’s friends. “You think you’re strong. Beat this guy.†The sea of people parted so Kadel could walk over to me. He seemed confident as he entered the battle.
“3-2-1-Let it rip†we repeated as our beys shot into the arena. Both beys were attack types, creating a vicious brawl. It ended sooner than expected with Kadel’s special move.
“GOLD DIGGER!†he hollered. Bling Razzor was so low it could make a hard assault on another bey’s spin track. It didn’t work. Everything failed. Razzor flew out of the arena from the recoil. The crater glowed bright red. There was no cheering anymore. It seemed that only Kadel and I were left in the park, besides a pair of eyes watching us from the trees like an eagle intimidating its prey.
“Whe-where is everyone?†Kadel blurted.
“The Cold Fire has taken them to Point Zero,†explained a sinister voice.

Chapter 7- Eagle Eyes
I recognised the voice although I didn’t have a clue who it was. I felt a strong presence as she jumped from the tree where she had been watching us from.
“Freeze! You two are enemies of the Cold Fire.†She boomed with a launcher set up and aiming right at us. I copied her and Kadel hesitantly did the same.
“3-2-1-Let it rip!†we growled as we let our beys fly into the stadium. Within seconds Kadel tried his special move, Gold Digger, on the opponent’s bey but she just deflected it, the reaction sending Bling Razzor hurtling into my Hunt Orion. Orion rocketed into the air because of Kadel’s mistake. I was out.
“I-I-I am s-s-so sorry. I don’t-†He shuddered.
“THE BATTLE!†I screamed. It was too late. We had somehow lost. I blacked out.
I was back in the prison, with Kadel this time. He was shivering: cold and afraid. He had seen an evil organization make his friends completely disappear. I was nervous in a different way for I’d been here before and last time I barely came out with my life, even though my kidnapper, Yaron, had saved me from the bad guys. He had done it again. Even more confusing was that the same person who saved me from him was now trying to kill me and he had saved me once more. I was even more baffled by then. I would have to do his favour now. No choice was given.
While Kadel tried to take everything in, Yaron and I were chattering over my problems with the predicament. He had already asked me for the favour, I was in no position to deny it. Yaron’s bey, Aura Shinika, shone on the corner of the table. Its colours were shining purple and yellow, catching my eye even from the awkward place. It seemed to watch me back.
“Please, Dylan, I need you to do this. I’ll help you find your friend. It is indeed a fair trade.†He offered. How did he know about Claire? Was he psychic too? I looked right into his eyes, they were hypnotising. He seemed serious, even though he was begging.
“Why can’t you do it?†I asked.
“Because I need to keep the portal stable from here. I’ve been doing it the whole time but it is too strong.â€
“We’ll find Claire; then I’ll go into the hole.â€
“Thank you.â€
I looked at his bey again. It felt alive and it was seeing right through me. He pulled his hand out and chanted a phrase in a strange language. The next thing I knew, I was in the Cold Fire’s base.
Being alone in a dark castle with security guards and bright lights flashing around, sparing me by millimetres is scary. But losing a friend is worse. I suddenly felt like dancing. It was so discomforting as I moonwalked over to the gate and spun jazzily as I tore the door open with Orion. My heart was beating. I was expecting millions of armed guards, guns poised right at me. I actually saw the image in front of me as the doors ripped open. All that was there was a child, a few years younger than me, playing a song on his guitar and singing along to it. I felt the beat inside me and started dancing again. The disco-like music had me jumping around. I felt the presence of many more people than us two. He got out his bey and fired, somehow spellbinding me to do the same. His bey instantly stood out, knocking mine into a wall. I couldn’t concentrate. I couldn’t stop dancing. I was going to lose because of pop song.

Chapter 8- Can’t Stop Dancing (literally)
Racing around the floor and spinning dramatically, I tried to keep track of my battle. My bey scuttled around the floor, but the song was keeping me distracted. I was going to lose a Beybattle I was only half in.
“Who are you?†I asked in terror.
“I am better dancer than you for sure.†He laughed.
“OK, but-. Wait. What. Noooo way.†I bragged. “Let’s dance.†So, at those words, we both got up and pranced around. Our beys got the message as the music of ‘Party Rock Anthem’ boomed in our ears. I spun around on the floor slowly shifting to ‘The Worm’. I had to admit that this was my most awkward Beybattle. The dancer opposite me danced like his bey spun: flawlessly. I was going to lose the dance contest too! My heart pumped. I gave up. That was what saved me. The first time I’d given up at anything in my life and it had saved me.
“NO!†he screamed. “Mad Tempo use Rock Rage.†His bey, Mad Tempo, jumped right onto me so, using my spring, I propelled it away. I was in the battle again and I had won. Mad Tempo made its final trick: it shattered into millions of pieces and Claire appeared in front of me. She ran up to me, both of us with arms open. Upon one touch she also shattered, but by then the blader was gone. Then I heard her voice.
Claire was somewhere and she needed help.
“Help me. Someone help. Please Dylan, if you can hear me then... I believe-†the voice stopped. I sprinted past corridors, smashed windows and knocked down doors. The place had more monsters than a Pokémon game. Eventually, I ended up in a room with a dark figure lurking in the corner of the murky room and it was; crying.
“Why did you keep me waiting?†Claire sobbed. “Why did you leave me?â€
“Claire, I-†Footsteps boomed. I ran past a door, dragging Claire along with me. At least that’s what I thought. Through the door was another gloomy room with yet another figure waiting in the corner.
“You kept me waiting again?†Claire sobbed, angrier now.
“Yeah, two seconds.†I complained. Her face appeared now; lacking sleep and food.
“NO! TWO DAYS! TWO DAYS!†she bawled as I started backing away. I fell through another door. I was in an additional room, similar to the first two. The only difference was Claire wasn’t talking. She was there in the corner, but as silent as a mouse. Cautiously, I crept closer. A skeleton awaited me there with Claire’s clothes on.
“No.†I whispered. Claire was dead. I ran away, guilt and shame surrounding me. The footsteps haunted me. I was trapped. No, I was free. I was in a furnace. I observed in the darkness. Red graffiti littered the walls, saying stuff like ‘get out now’ or ‘don’t stay anymore’. We were here again. No, I was here again. I was alone. But the footsteps wouldn’t stop. Claire was dead. Guilty, ashamed, I killed her. I remembered her face from before I put her in this situation and it made me smile: smile for the first time in what seemed to be forever. Claire appeared, panting heavily, at a door.
“Go back!†I shouted. “Just go-†Suddenly, Claire was replaced by Helios. I remembered the vision of me from when Claire, Demarko and I were in the warehouse. That was really me, but it was from now. ‘So how did it go way back there?’ I thought. I was soon away from the nightmare. Claire was in front of me in a corridor near the exit. I’d been tricked by so many visions I didn’t know what to believe. Then she smiled and I knew it was her. She ran up to me, both of us with arms open.
“Where were you ‘Arrow Head’?†she asked looking like she was about to punch me.
“Out dancing.†I answered. She wasn’t amused; she was angry. Then what she did surprised me. She kissed me.
“Don’t scare me like that.â€
Mephiles was watching me from a control room the whole time.
Kadel squealed in pain. I had left him behind and now he was being tortured.
“Does this guy not have any weakness?†Mephiles shouted at the TV screen monitoring me, annoyed with me.
“We won’t need to find it,†explained a deep voice, “if he’s not there.â€

Chapter 9- Triple Threat
Everything was perfect. I was so happy now that Claire was back again, by my side and supporting me. But when a blade of grass is at its highest; it gets chopped down.
I contacted Demarko as soon as we left the Cold Fire base and filled him up with the details. He was ecstatic too. We arranged to meet up in BeyPark and think about our next course of action against the Cold Fire. It seemed we were the only ones available to stop them. Demarko was free so we got some snacks and talked. Demarko's awkward disappearance kept popping up in my mind but I never mentioned. I thought it was just a normal thing. Just some time off. I was wrong.
“What do we do now?†I asked. No-one answered for about 30 seconds.
“Well, we could-†Demarko suggested, pulling out a flyer. In massive letters it stated ‘Beyblade Parade June 29th’ and underneath in slightly smaller letters ‘Enter your team NOW’. In extremely tiny print it said ‘Hosted by the Cold Fire’.
“What?†I gasped. “What are they up to now?â€
“Only one way to find out.†Claire smirked.
“WELCOME TO THE BEYBLADE PARADE!†shouted Blader DJ. The building was packed with the strongest bladers in the country and our team, which we named Starfire, was one (or three) of them. The first round started within minutes so we had little time to prepare. The battle type was ‘Triple Threat’, a battle where each player in a team has one opponent and the team with the most wins out of the three. The stadiums were about one metre wide each and there were three in a room. In the building there were twenty rooms adjacent to each other and millions of seats lining the ring of battles, each seat occupied by a beyblade fanatic. The noise was as loud as a lion’s uproar. Colours swirled around the stadiums as the fans in their brightly coloured clothes waved their flags and banners, only specks of a massive rainbow loop. Beys were launched and put in battle against each other, clashing and smashing, adding to the noise. The aroma of the snacks being purchased enveloped over the arena, intoxicating the bladers beneath. I grinned at my teammates. This was a tournament. We prepared our beys cautiously; we couldn’t mess up if we wanted to stop the Cold Fire.
“3-2-1-Let it rip!â€

The aroma of the snacks being purchased enveloped over the arena, intoxicating the bladers beneath. I grinned at my teammates. This was a tournament. We prepared our beys cautiously; we couldn’t mess up if we wanted to stop the Cold Fire.
“3-2-1-Let it rip!â€

Chapter 10- Team of Two Halves
I fiddled with the launcher in my wet, shaky hands. It helped me get over my nerves, spinning the bottom around. My bey, however, was on the stage below, whizzing along the rim of the stadium to finally spiral into the middle. I was chasing a white bey, but I was too slow and I was on course for a loss. Then I called out to the sky for one short burst of power to win.
“Arrow Strike!†and I left victorious.
The semi-finals were even tenser than the previous rounds, obviously. The strongest competitors were there in the lounge with me. The final four teams were sitting in their groups, polishing their beys and discussing techniques. It was strange though. The lounge consisted of four circular tables with an urban curved sofa for each, big enough for three people. At each table there were also footrests, televisions, small snacks and a waiter to retrieve any additional needs. The predominant colours were red and white, like Santa Claus’ garments and with a similar ratio too. Most teams were discussing tactics over popcorn and Coke. One team was just slouching there with the TV on, the semi-finals only minutes away, and the strangest part: there was only one person in that team!
...
The crowd roared as the teams took their positions. Our team was prepared with a back-up plan if all else were to fail. Demarko’s opponent was a short, black and white-haired kid with a determined smile. I caught a glimpse of his hazelnut eyes. He was skilled. Likewise to Claire’s opponent: he had massive green eyes and messy yellow hair, like a bush in autumn. He was one of those ‘always look on the bright side’, smiley types, but being the youngest it was quite fitting. His white robe went up to his knees and really promoted his pale skin, despite the strange appearance. Claire and I exchanged confused looks. The leader of their team faced me. Unlike the others he was a serious guy, older-looking than us with no emotion but concentration. His lengthy, silver hair flowed down his peachy shoulders like a river, glinting off the sunlight. He wore a purple vest and jeans; a strange character though. Instead of motivating the crowd he was scanning the enemy. But something was missing. The other team wasn’t complete. Someone very important was missing...
“Go Pegasis, Starblast Attack!†shouted the boy in the blue headband. His bey flew into the air and then plummeted back down onto the opposing bey, smashing it out of the arena. He then picked up a burger and chomped it down. “Deeeeeeeeee-licious, I love these burgers. They are so great. You know what, I might have-†He complimented, licking any remaining flavour off his fingers, before being interrupted.
“Please, we need to practice your launch.†the girl with a computer insisted.
“Oh, come on,†He begged, “ten minutes break.â€
“Oh, OK then Gingka.â€

Chapter 11- Lies, Guns, Tricks and Beys
The circular room was adorned with TV screens spanning across half of the room, just enough to peek at every single one. Our three battles took up about six scenes, which were right in front of the two figures that were sitting there in the lonely shadows of the underground. Underneath all the excitement and thrill was cunning plan to destroy Earth. I know; think you’ve heard it all before. Well it all happened because of them.
“It’s all going to plan.†Mephiles cackled. “We will finally know exactly how their beys work†Helios, who was next to him on a soft leather chair, was observing quietly as the battle began. Then he leant forward towards Demarko’s screen.
“I can’t see the chip.†Helios commented. Mephiles frowned, squinted and finally spotted it, tapping at the location
“It’s in his hair. Don’t worry.†He assured.
All six of us got our launchers in position, the stadium getting quieter and more apprehensive. They knew the launch was pivotal to a battle. I tensed my fingers on the grip.
“3-2-1- Let-it-Rip.†And we yanked our hands away; our beys flew and the crowd howled. Suddenly the three adjacent, blue stadiums flooded with action. The opposing bey just stayed there, immobilised, so Orion smashed right into it. The other bey didn’t budge from the attack, whilst Orion spun away and almost out of the arena. It returned for another shot, but the results were unchanged. Orion tried to hit again and again but just reclined back away. That purple bey’s defence was solid; it was as sturdy as earth. Orion circled it as I tried to think about how to beat this bey. Then I noticed its thick performance tip, it was a great stamina type too. I shifted back in to action with more brutal attacks, this had to work. But at the last second the other bey spiralled round Orion and then turned that evasive action into an attack. The other bey started chasing me, but Orion’s speed was unmatched that was definite. So using that I came up with an idea...
“Orion, go faster.†I shouted and so Orion spun faster and faster, almost too fast to see until it was the one chasing the opponent’s bey. I was closing in for a fierce charge.
“Nice try,†My opponent said in his deep voice. His bey dodged the attack once more. Then his bey came back with almost the same vicious attacks as I tried before, but they seemed to work on Orion. It attacked from every angle, surrounding me. If only I could see where it was attacking from, but it just kept moving. I concentrated. The other bey stopped, preparing for the winning attack. I concentrated more and more. The bey rocketed in, a purple blur, and I used all that concentration. Orion swerved sideways, dodging the other bey. The purple bey lost most of its spin as I knocked it off balance.
“Very good, but not enough. Thank you for a great battle, but it’s over now.†He applauded. “Eagle, Metal Wing Smash.†I glanced at Claire and Demarko. It was time.
While this was happening Claire and Demarko were having their battles too, ones just as bad as mine. Claire’s bey, Cygnus, was a strong defence type, but it seemed she was up against a stamina type which gave her a disadvantage. Her bey flew into the middle from her launcher and stayed there, dead centre. The light green stamina-type bey her opponent had was circling around, not attacking at all. This wasn’t good at all. The other bey would definitely outlast Cygnus.
“You’re doing great Cygnus, stay in there.†Claire prompted nervously. Cygnus couldn’t defend, so it had to attack. Cygnus hauled itself up the slope of the stadium, using its weight to tumble back down again. It was a great plan, but so easily avoided as the opposing bey swivelled away from the attack.
“Hey, you, let’s end this now, OK. Libra, Sonic Buster.†He cried. Claire looked at me and Demarko. It was time.
Demarko’s battle was lost from the start. He did a lousy launch, he didn’t try to attack and now he was rapidly running out of stamina. The battle was over as soon as it began and Demarko just stood there watching. He wasn’t even trying. He was almost losing on purpose. The opponent however was switching from calm and still to a deadly attack so quickly it was invisible. It had a unique performance tip to let it do that surely. Then I noticed it’s energy ring; UNICORNO. It was a Ray Unicorno! Demarko’s Unicorno was about to fall when he looked at us. It was time.
“Flaming STARSTRIKE!†We shouted together as our beys leapt into the air and formed a triangle, still spinning around each other. The collision sent our beys hurtling down like meteors onto the opposing beys. Demarko’s bey fell and missed Ray Unicorno by more than a metre. Claire and I had successful attempts though. Two out of three: we’d won and were into the finals. But all I could think about was what was wrong with Demarko...

Chapter 12- Finally in the Finals
Noble in victory, gracious in defeat. Luckily he didn’t lose too often. We sat there watching him. The way he launched his bey, the moves it used, his voice too; it all sounded too familiar. Nabeel and his Fang Tiger 130 EWD were unstoppable. Together they made up for the absence of an entire team and amazingly well too. They’d won the previous rounds in less than a minute; all three of the other team versus just one bey. Yet still they got this far. But it seemed too good to last. The other three beys were spinning so rapidly it looked like they’d just been launched whereas Fang Tiger was almost on the ground.
“Gooooooooo, Tiger, use Tiger Gale Force Wall.†He bellowed. Storms of wind erupted around Tiger. It’s Final Stand. Tiger span more rapidly until it was upright, then the tornados spread across the arena like a flame. The victory was Nabeel’s that was assured. He picked up his bey and walked away as the opponents faded away in the hurricane. Nabeel: who was he?
The final round was approaching fast. It was Claire’s first tournament and she was stunned to be in the finals already. To Demarko and me, however, it was a familiar feeling. We were experienced with the mood before a match. The crowd was chanting for a battle but the bladers wouldn’t want it to even begin. I remembered back to the last battle and I wondered exactly how much experience Demarko really had. I walked up to him, he looked ill.
“You okay?†I asked.
“Yeah,†he managed
“What happened to you back then?†I enquired, hoping for a helpful answer. But he just got angry.
“I was just nervous, right. Stop asking questions!†He snapped as he stomped away. I shrugged and prepared for the upcoming battle.
“It’s time for the final BATTLE!†Blader DJ screamed into the mike, followed by an even
louder holler from the crowd. “Now put your hands together foooooooorrrrrrr Team Starfire. Yes, and now, the undefeated; it’s Nabeel. Now let’s get ready tooooooooooo Beyblade!â€
“3-2-1-Let it rip,†The entire building exploded with sound as we launched our beys into a single stadium, three against one. Fang Tiger span too quickly to see on its EWD tip. It was a balance type, a fusion of all three types. It seemed to be in an attack mode, trying to smash into Cygnus. As this happened Orion and Unicorno were securing the distance between the centre and the rim. We had him secured: Claire protecting the centre, Demarko sheltered the rim and I took the space between. Then he made a massive slip up. Trying to attack Tiger, who was fighting Cygnus in the middle, he hit me drawing Orion back to Cygnus at a high speed.
“Demarko,†I groaned. He looked at me with sheer rage. He then jumped into the stadium, retrieved his bey and ran off in tears. We were finished without Demarko. I threw my hands up, ready to admit defeat when another bey flew in, taking the place of Unicorno: Bling Razzor 80 XHF.
“Hey guys.†said a voice from above. It was Kadel! I’d never been so happy to see him and he was a legend. But it also brought back the painful memories of the Cold Fire’s base where I’d deserted him.
“Sorry, Kadel.†I apologised, but he just looked at me like I was crazy, then concentrated on the battle. Razzor crashed into Tiger at least ten times in the few seconds it had been here and combined with Cygnus’ Defence powers keeping him in place by circling him slowly enough for Razzor to attack it was a combination that couldn’t lose. I soon joined the fun with a few of my own attacks. The patterns and sounds were beautiful but we needed a stadium out. Kadel looked at me and read my mind. Usually Kadel would’ve used his special move so much earlier, that was his mistake, but now he was ready. The time was right. Orion and Cygnus danced out of the way.
“BLING RAZZOR, GOLD DIGGER!†he screamed out. Everything slowed down in a frozen silence. Razzor hurtled at Tiger and I saw the beast inside Tiger’s face bolt: a tiger slashing with its claws.
“Tiggggeeeerrr, Fury Fang.†Nabeel bellowed. He barely ever spoke. His voice was deep and masculine and almost threatening, but Kadel was too determined. The two beys clashed together, both determined to pull a win out of this match. The two beys broke apart then crashed together again even harder. They were evenly matched. No bey moved, just continued they’re never-ending attack. Suddenly, Tiger was pushed out of the stadium- it sounded like the shatter of drums- and flew into the air, out of sight. We had won the tournament. But I never imagined winning it without Demarko. He even suggested the idea and he was gone at our finest moment. The slightly modified team waved at the supportive shouts of the crowd. Music played, signalling it was time for us to leave. Then there was a whoosh of wind.

Chapter 13- The Battle Begins and Ends
“Tiger, Tiger Gale Force Wall!†We looked back in shock. Tiger was back on the ground and this time spinning faster than ever. A gust of wind formed around it. This blader was a wild beast. It span around the stadium and lifted our beys up, then hurling them down for a knock out. First Cygnus was taken, then Razzor and as both of them hit the cold stadium floor again, now with their spin completely taken away. I saw the mad look in his eyes.
“Now it’s your turn, Dylan. Go, Tiger, smash him to pieces.†Nabeel threatened. It was all going badly but I still had Orion. I thought, as the cyclone chased Orion around the stadium. I saw Orion’s beast: a hunter. A hunter could easily beat a lion.
“Go Orion! Flying Arrow!†Orion propelled itself into the air. It flew up, higher than the tornado and then landed right in the centre. “Yeah, go Orion.†I supported. I had the rest of the team and the audience supporting him too. I heard metal clashing fiercely, but I couldn’t see anything through the tornado. It finally died away after about a minute of blind battling. I must’ve defeated Tiger. But when the wind finally cleared up I saw both beys on the ground. It was a draw.
“I guess we’re even.†I told Nabeel.
“Think again,†he returned, pointing to the beys, “the tornado isn’t gone yet.†The beys started to wobble then they span upright, still desperately low on stamina. Orion was ready for one last hit.
“Special Move, Orion, Arrow Strike.†I shouted. Orion went round the length stadium and came back to Tiger for a final smash. There was a boom and a clink and then a cloud of dust. It was silent for a moment. Then the cloud and the stillness was broken by Orion. He soared out of the cloud and onto the floor at my feet. It was over. I lost. But I smiled.
“Good match.†I complimented as I shook his hand. A large golden cup was awarded to him and he held it up triumphant.
“Nabeel wins the Beyblade Parade. Until next time folks.†Blader DJ finished. A crowd of people came to get autographs and pictures. I looked at Claire, thinking she’d be disappointed, losing her first tournament like that. But she took it surprisingly well.
“Are you not annoyed that I lost?†I asked.
“Are you kidding? I loved it. The excitement and everything, you really had me on the edge of my seat.†Claire explained.
“But- I mean-†I muttered. She put a finger to my lip.
“It’s okay. You’re a great blader, Arrow Head. I’m proud.†Once our little fan club left, Kadel walked up to me.
“I need to talk to you. Come into the lobby when you’re done here.†Kadel whispered. I nodded and continued shaking hands and signing stuff.
Down in the basement, Helios and Mephiles still lurked.
“So this Nabeel person is the best, eh.†Helios commented. “Mephiles get that boy to send him in too.â€
“Master, he will take out anyone who poses as a threat.†Mephiles guaranteed. Helios looked at one of the screens, the one screening the lobby.
“And the Kadel boy, he can’t be tricked because he knows.â€
“Then he dies...â€
I went over to the lobby after the audience had left, wondering why Kadel wanted to talk to me. I swivelled through the windy corridors, an endless labyrinth of walls to trap me in. It seemed like an RPG game, asking around to find my goal. It turned out the lobby was on the East Wing and the Arena where I started at was between the North and the centre of the triangular building. The sides were slightly curved, as I saw when I somehow burst outside into the courtyard. I eventually found my way to the lobby, going around the entire building in the process, to find Kadel had gone. All that was there was a poorly lit room, red and white the most of the rooms, a few sets of red sofas and a shady-looking receptionist behind her desk with a cigarette between her lips. She was in her fifties, pretty young.
“You’re a bit late. The tournament finished an hour ago, honey,†she jeered. I ignored her.
“Did you see a boy walk by here?â€
“Sorry, Dear. The only boy who came by here was just waiting for his parents. His father arrived and took him away.â€
“What did he look like?â€
“I’m not a camera, sweetie, but he was a very handsome boy, Designer clothes by the way.â€
“And he went...â€
“As I said he left through that door with his parents.â€
“And what did-“
“Listen kid, I’m not gonna answer no more question so just go off to your friends, okay.†I knew Kadel had come here and I knew his parents didn’t pick him up. They barely knew him and he barely knew them. They were divorced and now Kadel was torn. So he turned to beyblades. He would never go back to his parents, especially not when he had to say something that important to me. I took a seat hoping he’d return. I played with my feet for a while until my phone rang. It was my mom so I pressed ‘accept’.
“Dylan, are you at that Beyblade Tournament?†she called through the phone.
“Yeah, what is it?†I enquired casually.
“Well I thought maybe you could stay at a hotel today. Dad’s on a meeting and I need to wait with Aunt Becky at the hospital.â€
“Is she OK?â€
“She’s fine. Just be safe okay. Don’t talk to strangers. Look both ways. Is that girl there? You know the one you-â€
“Shut up!†I barked. “I’ll figure something out.â€
“Okay. I’ll be back tomorrow. You can stay at a friend’s if you want. Well, bye.â€
I said goodbye, cancelled the call and sighed. She knew so much about my social life that she didn’t need to be that protective. That was when the doors burst open. I thought it was Kadel. I looked up. It was someone I thought I wouldn’t see for a while.

Chapter 14- Reunions
“Demarko,†I cried as I stood up and hugged him, “where were you. I was worried.â€
“Well I was-,†he stopped. “Get off me!†We laughed.
“Glad to have you back†I chuckled, still hanging on to him.
“Seriously, get off.†He spluttered after the burst of laughter, so I did. “As I was saying, I was just outside. Don’t worry, I watched you lose.†He joked. I sighed, remembering that intense battle against Nabeel, and so we talked for a while. The minutes grew into hours and the subject was soon turned to the Cold Fire. The evil organization was still a mystery, for one we didn’t even know if they were evil, we didn’t know what they started the tournament for and we didn’t know what their aim was. It was no surprise we weren’t getting anywhere.
“So, how are we going to find out who they are?†Demarko questioned.
“Well, we could go back to the base,†I shuddered at the painful memories, “but there’s a lot of bad memories. You know, back when you disappeared†He scratched his head and looked down, a single drip of sweat dribbling down his cheek.
“Well I think I know where to go next. We need to go-†Demarko muttered quietly before being interrupted by a loud shout from the exit.
“HELP!†a girl shouted. “Someone HELP!â€
“Claire!†I replied thunderously and I instinctively ran towards the noise, leaving Demarko behind. He was already panting, running only a few metres away but I had no time to wait. I burst through the fire exit just as a black Honda was pulling out of the driveway. Through the window I made out a familiar face.
“Claire.†I shuddered. But then someone else appeared at the window: Kadel. He was trying to mouth something to me. But it was too late by then. The car was gone. Then I heard a mechanical roar.
“Need a lift.†asked a guy in a helmet. He was on a black motorcycle I wasn’t supposed to take lifts from strangers, but I didn’t want to lose them again. I jumped on the motorbike and it started instantly. He seemed to know that I was chasing the Honda that Claire and Kadel were in.
“Chase that car!†I shouted nevertheless. The motorbike, although at full speed, was no match for the sports car. We were now at a narrow, barren street. The black car was more than a few hundred yards ahead now and we were almost losing sight of it as it flew into the blazing sunset. How long had it been? Maybe a few minutes. An hour. I felt tired though and all this was making me feel a bit ill. We were getting further and further away. But the guy turned to face me.
“Quick, kid, get my bey out of my back pocket.†He hollered over the engine. I reached into his pocket and found a bey and a launcher. “You know what to do, kid.†Shrouded in the remaining light bursting from the half-sun, I looked at the bey; Fang Tiger!
“Nabeel...â€
“QUICK!†I speedily set up the launcher and launched the bey. But the bey wouldn’t be fast enough. Until I realised something, it was only a quick calculation between hitting the car or not. I threw the bey out at about 15 miles per hour, the motorcycle was going at 70 miles per hour and the car was going at about 80 miles per hour. If the bey was launched at 15 miles per hour on the bike it would be travelling at 85 miles per hour. I was usually bad at Maths. I just prayed I was right. I wasn’t. The bey fell flat on the ground, luckily only few metres behind the car.
“Fang Tiger, Tiger Gale Force Wall.†Nabeel yelled. A tornado formed around the bey and the car stopped in its tracks. The force of the tornado was pulling the car in, just like it was meant to pull beys in. The engine roared. We were gaining speed. Faster and faster. The tornado wouldn’t last long. We had to break the doors open and get my friends out within seconds. We were going to do it. Just then the engine spluttered. The bike spun around on its side. Sparks flying, I fluttered into the air.
“Come on, kid, it’s your time now.†Nabeel declared. I ran towards the car, darkness shrouding my vision. I launched my bey, Orion, at the window. Then I signalled for them to climb out. Kadel climbed out with no problem, some glass cutting his thigh. But by the time Claire’s face was out the tornado was gone. I grabbed Claire’s hand as she screamed, being stolen by the car already. I gripped even tighter, Kadel helping now.
“I won’t let you go,†I mumbled to her, “I will never let you GOOOO!†and with a final pull she was out and the car disappeared into the dark. We stood there as the moon rose and day turned into night. A fire blazed where the bike had crashed. Nabeel walked up from the flames and I smiled at him.
“Well then, let’s find a hotel.†Kadel laughed.
“Demarko,†I cried as I stood up and hugged him, “where were you. I was worried.â€

Chapter 15- Hostages
We booked into a hotel. I didn’t catch the name, but then why would I need it. It was big, about 30 stories high, and we booked into one near the top (not at the top though). The entire floor seemed strangely empty; no noise, no babies crying, no TVs at full volume. It was a cheap hotel and visibly too. It was dim, damp and cold. We eventually reached our adjacent rooms. Nabeel had the first one, at the end of the corridor, Kadel and I shared the next one and Claire took the third one opposite ours. We had no clothes; breakfast was free, though I would prefer not to eat from a place this unsanitary. Nabeel found just about enough change in his wallet to cover the cost of the rooms and a few spare coins for anything else. We said our goodbyes for the night and went to into our rooms. The darkness fell and we slowly drifted into our dreams.
The dream was terrible. The world was torn apart by war. Flames licked the tops of buildings. Debris was scattered across the cracked roads. The sun was falling out of the brutally red sky, but the darkness didn’t want to appear. The earth was suspended in this state where night or day didn’t matter. Soldiers marched into war, a sea of dark green being overshadowed by a cloud of blue. The scene was one of death. Gunshots blared and planes flew dangerously close. It was like the apocalypse, but with one big difference. It wasn’t the end of the world; it was the beginning of a new one. Darkness fell over the land. The light turned cold. The fires blazed brighter and finally the shadow was born. And in all of the wreckage and pain and suffering I could only think about one person: Claire. The image of her face etched in, to stay there until I died. Then a new image appeared. It was the gruesome face of Mephiles. His mouth opened, poised in a position to say something. But all that came out of it was the shrieking of a siren. Or a ring.
The phone rang; the sound piercing through the air and into my dream cloud. I walked over towards the bedside table on the other side of the room. Despite being right next to Kadel’s bed, it seemed he couldn’t hear the sound of the telephone behind him. It was as if the call was for me. I walked over slowly and picked it up.
“Hello,†A man’s voice was on the other line, a boring, emotionless voice that no-one could recognise upon talking to him. He talked like he knew me and didn’t really want me to answer back. “This is-†static boomed in my ear as he continued his sentence. “Your parents, are they safe? Do you know where they?†Now I got angry.
“No how dare you say that!†I retorted in anger.
“And your father, do you know where he isâ€
“He is at a business meeting. Why?â€
“Wrong! I suppose your mother is at home.â€
“My mom is at the hospital!â€
“Wrong again! Thank you for your co-operation.†He concluded before I could say any more. “Now come down to BeyPark in the morning and bring your little friends too.â€
“And if I don’t.â€
“Then your parents go into the furnace...†The line was cut and I stood there recalling the conversation. Soon I collapsed on the floor in fatigue. I had just given away the locations of my parents to a stranger and at a time like this with the Cold Fire out to get me; it could prove fatal. Before I closed my eyes, I remembered what my mom said: ‘Don’t talk to strangers’.

Chapter 16-So We Meet Again
It was 5am. The sun had just risen above the horizon and was only an orange semicircle. I looked back. The streets were silent and the buildings were still asleep. Was I doing the right thing, leaving my friends? Shaking away the guilt, I ran. The BeyPark was very close to the hotel and I didn’t have to go far before I was in a familiar background. From there I navigated my way across the city. I walked past a tattered, plain house; Yaron’s house. I remembered our conversation, my promise, and I walked in. Against every instinct I had, I walked in. Yaron was inside sitting at the table when I came. He was wearing the same discoloured clothes that he wore the day I met him. His bey was on the table with a laptop. He looked up from the computer screen and I looked at his wrinkled, but wise, face.
“Welcome,†he greeted, “Did you find your friend? Please take a seat. I have some tea boiling in the kettle†I sat down on the seat facing him.
“I owe you a favour.†I offered
“Well then, you can do it.â€
“But if something goes wrong in there-â€
“It’s a dangerous mission. But we must stop the Cold Fireâ€
Walking mindlessly through the streets, I heard a voice behind me, calling my name. I looked over my shoulder and behind me was a silhouette running towards me. Though the silhouette was familiar, I still couldn’t make out who it was in the inadequate sunlight. As the shadow came closer, it seemed to stray further from my mind, so I kept walking. I was close now. I could see the crater. Now it had those yellow “Police Investigation†strips around the edge of it. I only saw darkness as I looked down, into the fissure. The figure was behind me and now I knew who it was.
“Please,†Nadeel hummed correlatively “Don’t do it.â€
“I have to!†I forced out, still not making eye contact. Then there was silence except for the wind rustling my hair. I turned to face Nadeel.
“How can you leave your friends like this?†bawled Nadeel. A tear seeped down my face.
And I pushed off. Into the furnace.
