Oh! Now I get it! How silly of me! XD Tongue_out
Jesse McCartney is no longer playing Zuko~
He's now being played by Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire.

Ahhhhhhre you serious?!?!? I'll be expecting alot from this movie. Avatar is awesome.
This is pretty ridiculous. The cast couldn't be further from the cartoon in terms of race. Maybe M.Night Shyamalan didn't realize Avatar occurs in a world primarily inhabited by those of Asian descent?

Thanks for the Link, Annie.

I love Slumdog Millionaire. My mother and I went to see it together. It meant a lot for us since she and I have a lot of Indian friends. Sometimes I think she's more Indian than the Indians she hangs around...

I hope Patel can get the voice right. He doesn't exactly look like Zuko, either...
Well now I know why Fox didn't want a live action Krillin.
the only decent Shyamalan movie I have ever seen was 6th sense. His work has progressively gotten worse (at least until the village; refused to see his stuff after).

In other words I wouldn't be surprised if this blows hard.

The Water Tribes are based on Native American peoples, both of North and South America. Fire Nation is Japan, Earth Kingdom is China, and Air Nomads are Tibetans and Mongols.
Noah Ringer is good for playing Aang, Also the final episode for Avatar was pretty good,
I watch it on Nickelodeon but it would've suited Cartoon Network better.
Well. I know my last post was a retraction, and I guess I'm retracting that. In regards to Noah Ringer as Aang, I believe this is one of the few things that the movie is actually doing right. An Asian lead for an Asian character should just be common sense. And then I found out about the latest casting call.

Turns out, for extras, the producer requested specifically white males with blue or green eyes to show up for the scene. Here's where it all goes to hell. Maybe Shyamalan has forgotten, but this is an explicitly Asian world. Maybe he's striving to be multicultural here, but in the context of the series it feels more like an insult.

What about series that are solely composed of white people? How would people feel if Lord of the Rings was made multicultural? Fanboys would carp themselves at the prospect of that. Tales from Earthsea is a novel series featuring lead characters with dark skin. And yet, Sci Fi's adaptation apparently turned the entire main cast white except for one dude (without the creator's consent, mind you).

This article spells it out better than I can. I don't know what it's like to be Asian, so read a first person perspective on this.
I don't think it would've been bad to have a multicultural cast, but to explicitly mandate that the cast be caucasian with blue or green eyes is absolutely disgusting. My hope that this movie won't suck is fading.

BTW, great article, Toto.

Shoot me, but uh, I thought that trailer looked way cooler than the show ever thought about being.
what a terrible trailer

Agreeing with this.

Doesn't really look all that impressive, and that's a pretty bad sign since trailers usually kick carp.
I like it in all honesty, i really think everyone needs to shut up about the whole " OMG LIVE ACTION MOVIE ADAPTIONS SUCK " situation, reserve judgement till you've actually seen the damn movie. Still early stuff yet, this is more of a teaser than anything, really liking a real world adaption of the Avatar world, gives you a better perspective on how it would be in the Avatar world.
