My first (and thus far only exposure) to animated Astroboy was from the recent remake series that aired on YTV.
I'm somewhat hyped for the animated movie. I trust the production studio behind it, since they created the visually awesome TMNT. Sadly, I'm not sure it'll be a box office hit, the movie studio that got the movie isn't exactly Warner, or Paramount.

The original show ended well over 20 years ago. The original show started in the 1960's. And the manga that inspired it is even older. Astro became a cultural phenomenom in Japan, inspiring tonnes of things like Astro, and was one of the first Japanese animated television series to get wide exposure in the United States. It has since then spanned numerous remakes (including a Japanese live action TV show), sequels, and spinoffs, the most recent remake series was finished in 2003/4. Astroboy's story is a timeless one. And it will be told over, and over again. The Imagi movie proves that.
