[Answered]  Is greasing/lubing a launcher illegal?

Over time, after using a bey launcher for quite some time, the gear mechanisms, due to friction, will begin to wear, and degrade. Which will reduce the launchers performance, and may even cause gear failure...

When it happens, I grab some W-D40, and lube up the gear mechanisms to delete friction, and restore the performance of the launcher, and also protect the mechanisms from damage....

But does me using LubeSauce on my launcher make my launcher... illegal?!

I need to know... cuz if so, then I won’t be able to use any of my launchers, whether it’s my LR string launchers, or my red & blue Digital Sword Launchers... cuz I lubed them all...
And I would have buy brand new ones
(Which I have no problem doing...)
It sure is illegal for WBO tournaments! Get new launchers when your old ones wear out.
Lol, thx a bunch DeceasedCrab.
I was pretty much gonna but new ones anyway cuz I like having more that 3 to 4 of the launchers at a time.
This’ll give me an incentive to get moar now.
FWIW, lubricating launchers used to be legal. I forget when it became illegal.
Dilithium grease should be allowed on any metal components of a launcher to mitigate damage and not "just buy another."
A lot of launchers could be used for a much longer time, when the gears are lubed. There is no way to buy just ripcords or launchers by themselves. You always have to buy the "whole" thing for (1) part.

We should rethink how we treat the Environment with plastic rubbish.

I didn't notice any improvements in power by the Beyblades themselves. But my equipment isn't worn out as fast as before. It takes way longer to see any dmg on launcher or ripcords.

But: I don't want to yell without any tests. I'll launch 200 times the exact same Bey with and without lubed Equipment.

"Gear sports" should include maintenance of the equipment, too.

As the rules are by now. It isn't even allowed to straighten the ripcords with hot water..even though TT and Hasbro put them in a way in the package, that they become bend and get destroyed if you don't correct them.

What do you think?

Lubing is illegal and will always be illegal. It drastically increases the performance of launchers

Straightening ripcords is not illegal and I have no idea where you got this information.
2. Winders cannot be modified in any way.

Boiling it in hot water may cause to change the material.

I didn't notice any diffrence with Aero Pegasus on 9-60 Low orb.

Spin times were between 1.40 - 2.10
With and without lubing.

Lubing may be illegal by now. But rules can be changed.
What did I just read
I know lubing is currently illegal – and yeah, maybe it’ll stay that way for now. But I wasn’t trying to say “break the rules."

My point was more about thinking differently.

In a lot of gear-related sports or hobbies, maintenance is just normal. Why is that not the case in Beyblade? We’re using plastic parts with mechanical tension. Stuff wears out. Shouldn’t we be allowed to maintain it properly?

Also – why do we always have to buy full sets just to replace one small part? It’s not really eco-friendly, and it feels kinda wasteful tbh.

I never said lubing has no effect at all. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. But we should be clear: when does it give an unfair edge, and when is it just helping your gear last longer?

I’m not here to shout or cause drama. I just think if we want this scene to grow, we should also think about how we treat our gear and our community.

“Bladers will be bladers” – sure.
But maybe bladers can also reflect a bit on how we handle stuff. Not every bit of maintenance is cheating.

Sometimes it’s not about breaking rules.
It’s about understanding why the rule exists in the firs place
Lubing has been illegal for 25 years. Launchers can be bought standalone for $12. Unless youre treating your equipment like carp, it will last you months before its time to change them. No sports equipment has an infinite lifespan. This game is about smashing toys together, equipment replacement is to be expected

Lube provides a clear and obvious advantage to the person with the lubed launcher, and different lubes affect the launcher in different ways. There would be no practical way to regulate this. The rule exists to keep the game fair across the board.
I get the concern about lubing giving unfair advantage – and I’m not saying we should all start greasing launchers for more power.

My original point was more about maintenance and gear lifespan. I’m not trying to cheat, I just want to take care of my stuff and avoid throwing away plastic every few months.

Like, when you play often, gears just wear down. And I’ve noticed that with some basic care (no fancy stuff), things last way longer – not faster just longer.

I’ll try to test it more serious anyway. Launching the same Bey like 200 times with and without. Maybe the difference is smaller than it seems.

I’m not pushing for a rule change or anything. Just wanted to talk about sustainability in the game, not power abuse.

Maybe there could be a rule exception for "basic maintenance" one day – with clear limits.

Just sharing thoughts – no stress 🙂
Greasing launchers won’t help with wear; it’s plastic grinding down over time. Whatever your intentions are, it’s still cheating in every applicable way.

These are toys, not sport equipment. They’re not meant to be used forever. Just buy more launchers and understand that wear and tear is normal.
I understand that lubing launchers might not be officially allowed, and I’m not trying to argue against the rules themselves. But from my perspective, it wasn’t about gaining an advantage – it was about preventing wear and keeping the launcher working properly.

My launcher started skipping after a few weeks, and instead of buying a new one every time, I just wanted to maintain it. I didn’t notice any performance boost. No faster spins, no better battles. Just less jamming.

Thing is, a lot of people straighten their ripcords, open up launchers when they get stuck, or even use old worn ones because they feel “smoother” – and most of that’s not strictly legal either. But nobody really talks about it unless it becomes an issue.

I mentioned it openly because I believe in transparency. Looking back, maybe that was a mistake, since people now question the fairness of battles that felt normal before.

I’m not saying lubing should be allowed right now – but maybe there should be more open discussion about wear and maintenance. Otherwise it feels like “just buy a new one” becomes the answer to everything, which isn’t realistic for everyone. Escpecially for people with less money.

Just wanted to share my thoughtss

Please read the rules of the game. Sections 7 and 8 of the equipment regulations specifically. Repairing multiple piece parts is 100% completely legal. Straightening ripcords is, and always has been legal as well, as it does not modify the ripcord in anyway that causes it to change from developer intention. The big takeaway from this section is that as long as it does not change the intended performance of the part you can disassemble it, clean it, repair it with pieces of other official parts etc. You are very mistaken about what is and is not legal and why.
