The chapter’s ending is insane, but what is even going on? We don’t even have a clear shot of Luffy, yet everyone’s meaning theories about how he has Sun God power. Here’s my take on the situation.
Joyboy is a title, not a name. This is evidenced by Kaido saying to Luffy (when he fell) “So you’re not Joyboy either”. This means anyone can be Joyboy, however Luffy iphas seemingly met the requirements. What are they? By the way I think only the Government higher ups and Shanks know. Remember when Shanks told them he needed to talk about a certain pirate? I bet that was about Luffy, specifically how he could become Joyboy. This would benefit the Government since they want to erase any info about the Void Century and Nola (this also brings up Shanks’ true intentions, but that’s a whole other discussion).
E
Anyways, on to what they are. We can rule out death being one, if Luffy died and then revived into a new Joyboy, that would mean he died with a blank expression. People with D die with smiles, but he only got one after he would be hypothetically revived.
1. Straw Hat. Luffy’s Straw Hat seems to be important, since I’m, the one that has complete control over the entire world, has it on his radar. I bet the original Joyboy owned it. If this is true, when Roger would have found this out at Laugh Tale, he would have gave it to a trusted crew member, Shanks, so he could find a potential successful Joyboy candidate and give it to them, since no one on the crew fit all of the requirements.
2. Will of D. I think People with D are supposedly hated by the Gods, those that fit a Godlike description would be the Gov higher ups. They want to erase everything to do with the Void Century, so if being a D is related to Joyboy, they would want all D’s gone.
3. Awakening. Luffy’s powered up, and I bet it’s a Devil Fruit Awaken, since they’ve been continuously relevant recently compared to Gears, which just appear every once and a while. He seems to be in a goopy state, so is he turning into resin like popular theories state? Was he Resin all along?!?!?! Turns out a quick google search reveals that rubber melts, how shocking. So this would mean his awakening is like a beefed up Gear 2, where the heat is so strong that it’s melting his entire body. Why heat though? Luffy has been carrying Ace’s will since his death through fire based moves, so this is essentially ultimate shoutout to Ace. And as I stated, he can already manipulate heat with rubber.
Ok this is cool, but what’s up with the drums. There are no drums, it’s Luffy’s heartbeat, this is stated. Why does it have a specific beat? It probably doesn’t to be honest. I think this is just Zunesha realizing that Luffy’s a Joyboy, and drums are symbolic to Joyboy and Nika, so looking at Luffy under the lens that he is Joyboy, anything and everything may seem related. Even just his heart beating. Essentially it’s just symbolic to him realizing that Luffy’s a Joyboy.
Extra: What’s the final saga? Here’s my thoughts on it.
The Final Journey Saga
Revolutionaries Arc
Luffy goes to save Sabo who has been abducted by the Navy and is awaiting execution. During this ordeal Luffy learns about his father, Monkey D. Dragon. This is a situation similar to Ace’s, but this time, Luffy won’t let Sabo die.
Laugh Tale Arc
Every Poneglyph has been found, and the world’s in uproar. The location of the One Piece is known, now it’s a race to see who gets their first, all while the Navy are hot on the pirates tale. When everyone arrives at Laugh Tale, chaos ensues. After solving riddles and puzzles, uncovering secrets, and making u likely alliances, the One Piece is revealed.
World War Arc
The secret the One Piece holds has been revealed, and everyone on Earth now knows about the truth of the Void Century. The Gov higher ups have failed, and Imu realizes the world is no longer under his control, so he should just destroy it. All out war ensues, and the Strawhats search for the 4 legendary weapons in hopes of ending it. However, a sudden appearance from a past enemy and a hidden species changes the game.
Extra Extra: One Piece is probably ending soon, though you probably don’t have to worry. Shone Jump will go to the extreme to make sure they keep making money. Naruto’s stopped? Sequel. Bleach stopped? Make the anime and manga return. If One Piece ends, there will most certainly be more content. Will it be a sequel? Who knows. However I like the idea of the ending mirroring the beginning with Luffy ushering in a new age of piracy.
