In the testing with Reboot and Accel, Fafnir was always launched first. In all other tests, launches were alternated between beys.
Alter Chronos 8-Meteor Reboot vs. Drain Fafnir Polish Atomic
aC8MRb (balance mode) - 3/10
dFPAt - 7/10
aC Win Rate - 30%
aC8MRb (off-balance mode) - 3/10
dFPAt - 7/10
aC Win Rate - 30%
aC Overall Win Rate - 30% (6/20)
As you can see, the mode change didn't change much in the way of results, but Chronos showed a bit of potential here. It would either KO/Burst Fafnir early in the match or it would get into a super close stamina battle that Fafnir would win because of it's superior LAD. Meteor's awful LAD and Reboot's poor stability early in the match didn't help matters either, I suppose. I chose this combo specifically because Reboot has good control if it can stay upright, and Meteor would have theoretically have added attack power, but it didn't do much. Since Reboot sticks on 8, I figured it'd be the best core to go with. Nevertheless, it did loose by a good margin, so in the next round I decided to switch the Frame and Driver to increase LAD and stability, and, well...
Alter Chronos 8-Glaive Accel vs. Drain Fafnir Polish Atomic
aC (balance mode) - 5/10
dFPAt - 5/10
aC Win Rate - 50%
aC (off-balance mode) - 0/10
dFPAt - 10/10
aC Win Rate - 0%
aC Overall Win Rate - 25% (5/20)
The off-balance mode was so bad here, haha. Chronos managed to score some pretty good KOs in the first few rounds, but I guess I lost my touch after that, haha. I'm not too good with Accel, so if someone who is wants to try an aC on Accel test, i'd like to see how it turns out. Other than that, there wasn't much of note. Accel and Glaive still didn't give as much LAD as I would have liked, but it was way better than Reboot and Meteor, haha. After this round, I decided a more defensive build might work better.
Alter Chronos Polish Atomic vs. Drain Fafnir Polish Atomic
aCPAt (balance mode) - 6/10
dFPAt - 4/10
aC Win Rate - 60%
aCPAt (off-balance mode) - 7/10
dFPAt - 3/10
aC Win Rate - 70%
aC Overall Win Rate - 65% (13/20)
Chronos's stamina appears to be on-par if not slightly less than Fafnir's, but it makes up for that small gap in destabilization when it's in it's off-balance mode. It'll either get a KO/Burst early in the match or it'll be a coin flip as to who wins the inevitable LAD battle. I think Spread, Yell, or one of the Core Discs might make for a better choice, but Polish did just fine on Chronos here. I decided to stick with this combo in the last round of testing, where I pitted against the main dF counter.
Alter Chronos Polish Atomic vs. Neptune Spread Atomic
aCPAt (balance mode) - 5/10
NSAt - 5/10
aC Win Rate - 50%
aCPAt (off-balance mode) - 5/10
NSAt - 5/10
aC Win Rate - 50%
aC Overall Win Rate - 50% (10/20)
Most of these matches boiled down to "whoever launches first wins", especially in the balance mode matches. Chronos did manage to KO and/or burst Neptune a few times, but I've been using my Neptune for almost a year now and it's teeth probably aren't as good as they used to be.
Now that you've read through the testing, here's the benchmark I did with Fafnir and Neptune after the testing was done;
Drain Fafnir Polish Atomic vs. Neptune Spread Atomic
Final Thoughts
Alter Chronos, when on Atomic and a disc with good LAD,
could be a viable counter to Drain Fafnir. However, since my Neptune is almost a year old and is probably worn down, it's not hard to imagine Neptune might still be a better choice to counter Fafnir, and it's entirely possible that Chronos might not be good at battling layers that would only be top-tier if Fafnir gets banned. As for the mode-change, it's either barely noticeable or the bey's achilles heel when it's on the wrong mode for the situation, so there'd be no reason to want to switch modes mid-battle.
Overall, it's an alright layer, but I'm still skeptical about it. I'd like to see what others have to say on it's performance, though. Let's not have another Fafnir/Atomic scenario where only one person posts anything about it before it becomes a dominant force and everyone with better info conveniently says nothing, ok? :P
