Hey everyone,
Seeing as the WBO OP Tournament Results Spreadsheet Template has recently become mandatory for submission of tournament results, I figured I would post another piece of the puzzle to help you guys understand why we are doing this.
WBO Organized Play - Public Tournament Data Archive
View & Download it Here
To download: File -> Download As -> Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)
As I mentioned in the template thread, there is a Winning Combinations Archive that we want to start keeping up to date:
But it doesn't end there. We also have the following spreadsheets:
The spreadsheet linked to at the top of this post displays the sheets for the tournament list, hosts, and winning combos.
I've also just recently added columns for Results, Funds, and Winning Combos (these are not complete/up to date yet) to the Tournament List sheet so that we can also transition out our current practice of manually updating the BeyPoints Queue thread. Ideally in the future I think we will link to this spreadsheet in the OP of that thread and update the spreadsheet instead.
"What are those numbers listed for the Hosts?"
You also might be wondering, "What are those numbers listed for the Hosts?". Those are the User IDs. Each member on the WBO is assigned a User ID when they sign up that corresponds to what member they are chronologically. For example, my User ID is 5 because I was the fifth member to join this site.
Why do we use User IDs instead of the actual usernames? Because people unfortunately love changing their usernames ... and we know people would freak out if we disabled that feature. This is the only way to make sure each member has a consistent ID throughout time. The easiest way to find these User IDs is to hover of the PM button below any members post: the URL that shows up in the bottom left/right of your screen when you do that (or when you click it) has the User ID appended to it like this:
We need your help!
Here's what we need your help with right now.
1. Updating the Tournament List
Uwik was the one who first put together this list, but it has not been kept up to date since August/September of last year as you can see.
Today I went through the Official Events forum and compiled a list of all of the tournaments currently missing from the list:
I've discovered that there was a few tournaments that Uwik missed adding to the list, so there are some that actually come before the latest ones on there right now (like London, UK: UK Revival Jam on September 20th, 2014).
Before I add these to the list however, we need to determine the total participants and total battles played for each one (besides the Upcoming Events, of course). I'm hoping that anybody who has access to the results for these tournaments could help me come up with these values.
2. Re-submit tournament results from Aug 2014-Apr 2015 using WBO OP Results Spreadsheet Template
We need the results for each tournament that has taken place since August/September 2014 to be re-submitted using the new WBO OP Results Spreadsheet Template. The complete list of tournaments that need to be re-submitted can be seen below.
Struck-through tournaments have been re-submitted/already were submitted using new spreadsheet.
3. Chronologically order tournaments regardless of format
Right now the tournaments are all in chronological order, but they have been sorted by format. In the future there may be a Global BeyRank that combines all formats, so we need to create a master list that chronologically lists all tournaments regardless of format.
4. Add all past Winning Combos to the spreadsheet
Future winning combos will be easy to add to the spreadsheet because the new template uses the same formatting, but up until now everything has been posted in the Winning Combinations thread. We need some people to go through this thread and manually enter in each of the past winning combinations chronologically to the best of their ability. There's bound to be some holes along the way, but don't worry about that; just note it and move on.
UPDATE 7/4/15: HMS and Limited have been completed. 1234beyblade is working on Zero-G, Mitsu is working on Plastics, and The Supreme One has started Standard. Please feel free to offer them your help as well. If you collaborate, we can get this done quicker!
If you can help with any of these things, please post in this thread so that everyone knows who is working on what! And if you're reading this and are not an Organizer, feel free to PM me and let me know if there's anything you want to help with.
When we get these things updated, you can upload a separate spreadsheet to Google Drive, link to it here, and I will then go ahead and copy/paste the new information into the spreadsheet above (which is View Only so that people don't mess with it).
WBO OP Tournament Results Thread: Coming Soon
We will also most likely be opening a thread shortly where hosts must publicly post a link to their submitted results. This accomplishes a couple things:
1. Makes it easier to track down the results for tournaments. Right now they are hidden in the PMs or e-mails of multiple Committee Members, so it is difficult for a single person to find information on a given tournament without having to correspond with someone else to find it.
2. Allows for the community (particularly the participants at each tournament) to spot any errors before we do, allowing the host to correct them before the tournament is actually processed. It's always frustrating processing a tournament, finding an error, then having to re-process it.
And besides, technically hosts should already be posting their results publicly (on the Event Guide, page 7, it states that all results must be PMed to Committee and also posted in the official tournament thread). We are just going to enforce it more now and consolidate everything into one thread instead.
Future BeyPoints System Upgrade
Just as a refresher, some of what I said about the BeyPoints System upgrade we are working towards is still relevant to this discussion:
A lot of how things will work moving forward is going to depend upon how the BeyPoint System upgrade is going to be structured, but my hope is that we can create an integrated system that combines/automates/links aspects of not only BeyPoints processing, but the BeyMap (Events Layer specifically), Upcoming Events box on the index, the Official Events forum, Credits, and Faces.
As I'm sure you can guess when you think about all of these things combined ... it is a daunting task. Everything we do right now has to be entered manually; the goal is to eliminate as much of that as possible and make the posting, advertisement, and processing of events quicker than ever before.
That's a lot to take in, I'm sure ... If you guys have any questions please let me know! We're also happy to listen to any suggestions.
edit: 9,000th post! Almost over 9,000 haha.

By the way, Uwik started putting together a spreadsheet with all of the Winning Combinations starting from when we began the thread but was unable to complete it yet. If anyone has some time on their hands and wants to help us out, feel free to take a look at this spreadsheet. You can download it, copy the formatting, and then upload a new sheet when you have the list updated. He wasn't originally including the users of each combo, but I think we want that information included. There are separate sheets for MFB (Formats: STD, LTD, and ZRG included in this one), HMS, and Plastic.
But it doesn't end there. We also have the following spreadsheets:
- Tournament List: The complete tournament list of WBO Organized Play tournaments that have ever occurred since the BP System was introduced. In addition to date, participants, location/name, and host(s), this sheet also contains data for the total number of battles played in any given tournament. At the bottom of the spreadsheet you can see this allows us to calculate things like Total Tournaments, Total Battles, Total Players, Average Players, Average Battles, and Average Battles Per Player.
- Hosts: A spreadsheet listing all hosts and the number of times they have hosted (to keep track of who needs to be awarded a Metal Face or MF2 Face).
- Results: A spreadsheet that simply lists all battles that have ever occurred in chronological order, along with the tournament name and participants number (this matters because the amount of BP you gain/lose varies slightly based on the amount of participants in the tournament) for each battle.
The spreadsheet linked to at the top of this post displays the sheets for the tournament list, hosts, and winning combos.

Just as a refresher, some of what I said about the BeyPoints System upgrade we are working towards is still relevant to this discussion:
Kei Wrote:The end goal we are shooting for in enacting this is automated batch processing in the massive BeyPoint System upgrade we are working on. If we have a standardized spreadsheet for submitting results, on the backend of the new BeyPoint System we will be able to upload the spreadsheet and have the results inputted automatically! This is one of the features we are most excited about, as you can imagine haha. It will drastically reduce the wait time for tournaments in the BeyPoints Queue because manual entry of each username for each results will have been eliminated from our work load. We are even hoping to allow hosts to 'pre-process' the results with a spreadsheet, and submit them to a queue for us to review before applying to the rankings for real.
This upgrade is still far off, so we will not be standardizing this just yet. It is currently formatted the way it is so that we can easily copy + paste results/information into our master spreadsheet that contains everything from every tournament that has occurred under the modern version of the BeyPoint System. Right now it is a huge manual process because nothing is standard between the way hosts submit results.
