Thoughts on an MU Chart Across All Gens?

Hey fellas,

So recently I had a random funny thought about a Cobalt Dragoon match-up chart, but it gave me an idea of how an actual MU chart could work. This post was originally going to be about X, but given that it's still getting releases and that something like this has a possibility to apply to every gen, all of Beyblade is now in question.

In case you don't know, a Match-Up chart, or simply an MU chart, is a community-made spreadsheet, typically for competitive games(I.e. fighting, hero shooters, moba, etc.), that gauges a character's likeliness of succeeding against another character if both players were of the same skill level. Plenty of them aren't definitive or only focus on one character, but complete definitive charts look like this.

Now with Beyblade, this is an entirely new ballgame. Beys are almost never used stock, so making a chart for that would be borderline useless. A chart comparing individual parts could be... extremely inaccurate. The only thing I could see possibly working is using combos with competitive history, but even that doesn't seem perfect.

Could MU charts work for Beyblade? Or are we better off using tier lists and documenting consistency. Just some food for thought.
Dang ganondorf is weak huh but I think this would be pretty cool

Dang… who are the other 2
Apart from the things you already mentioned, Beyblade has other variables at play that would make something like this pretty hard to do!
It being a physical game already makes it differ from shooters, MOBAs or fighters since it's not a physics engine and code you can just patch updates onto, but you'd also have to agree on and standardize:

  • What stadium is this considering? (This is easy enough this gen since a majority of matches and tourneys take place in the BX-10)
  • What format? (This is also not too difficult, with 3on3 being predominant and something used beyond WBO, but that leads to my next point)
  • What points is the win-con set to? (Most of the time, beys that are good and meta are good no matter what you're playing, but playing Ft4 VS Ft7 VS Bo3 will make you consider certain combos over others to more quickly meet your point win-con)

You could probably do what you see on JP Beytwt sometimes and basically make a MU chart of the "general consensus as of making it" meta combos and update as things rise and fall, but again even those are usually made in duos to show the meta for Xtreme and meta for Infinity.

As for previous gens, a historical MU chart would be neat to see, a visualiser of legacy metas of any sort would be nice, heh.
