Sonic the Hedgehog

I had way too much fun with the multiplayer racing in SA2B, maybe that is why I remember having so much fun with it haha.

You can't name a better Sonic then them. Unless Needlemouse proves to be spectacular, but when i heard Sidescroller, i started thinking Sonic Rush 3 *shivers*

Sonic 3 with Michael Jackson produced soundtrack is better then any Sonic 3D game ever made.

you are too young to remember how good sonic used to be

Played SaK, and it wasn't very good. The lock on with Sonic 3 (S3aK) was ok, but thats about it. Though that isn't really fair, sonic games as well as the industry itself have evolved.

It's basically putting a Caveman in a math competition with one of us. But the Casvemen used tools and such. They deserve respect all the same, but you can't say that SaK is better than SA2, thats early evolution vs. prime of lifespan.

i don't think you realize how unintentionally funny this is
Firelord767 your not seeing that SA2 is good but Sak is way better most fans like it the most. Unhappy

If you REALLY wanna compare them, i've played better fan games. What does S3 have that SA2 doesn't? Repetitive levels? An odd lack of a decent story lineOh, right, now i get what your talking about. I missed all characters having basically the same abilities. Ah, that MUST be it.

Seriously, SA2 wasn't even an imnporvement on S3. It was an imporvement on a game, SA, that has a long line of improvements before S3. Really, the whole STH series (Your Mega Collection Gameset) was just new levels and a new character slapped on. Everyone liked to imagine that these characters had personality because of SatM and STH Archie, but really personality only BEGAN to grow in 3D Blast, where a story was mentioned somewhere else besides the game manual. SA was a leap in the right direction after quite a few years of baby steps, taking away some of Sonic's speed and trading it for a little bit more control over him, as well as less of a need for luck and rather much more skill. SA2 stabilied gameplay even further, and finally filled the story void with something i would expect from a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Novel.

Then the target age shifted, and Sonic the Hedgehog as we knew him only continued to live in a handful of Youtube sprite videos by fans who have enclosed themselves in a bubble and pretended that Sonic Heroes was never released. And them some formed their bubbles a little late... and we have a few Sonic Heroes based videos out there....
sonic doesn't need a story, it needs to be fast and funny

sonic's "story" is awful and everyone except sonic is completely unlikeable

edit: LOL at sonic adventure 2's storyline being novel quality are you for real
I liked it when the story was literally "Oh hey, Robotnik's being a jerk! Go beat him up"
Stages could be completed in mere minutes if you knew the right way to go.

Good times. Unsmith
Firelord more than half of real fans like the real sonic genis games and fought for sonic 4 so if you want storyline read the comics.
;( ;( "( so happy.
The comics... are weird, maybe? I wasn't happy to see, what was it, Turbo Tails fighting a woolly mammoth.

And also, the speed ,imited Stage Design. Sure, they all looked different, but it was all basically the same. The only real exception are the Casino stages with the pinball. With more control, stages could be more complex. Thats how it's done, stages that are actually different. Would you guys play all your 1stPerson Shooters if there was only one map avalible? Thats the Mega Collection sonic games in a nutshell.

And funny? Maybe thats why Sonic Unleashed was so bad.

And how is evereyone but sonic completely unlikeable? I hate quite a few characters, but it balances out with the amazing design of the character within Sonic, Tails, Shadow (look deeper than "Oh, cool" and you'll find a real character in him. Being the Kai, if you will, of Sonic. people rarely look depper than that. He's much more than a trigger happy dark sonic.) and Jet. Oh, and the Chao.

More than half of sonic fans can spell Genesis, too. And i';ve never been on a board with such poor reception of SA2 before. More than half of than fans?
Show me the math.
kai was a bad character too though

I would totally play an FPS with one map, if the core gameplay was solid enough to not need anything else. The fact that the levels are all 'samey' has no negative factors on why the original games are so well loved.

It seems if you were born after the Genesis/Mega Drive games came out (and thus would have started gaming way after), you have no understanding of why people hold the original games in such high regard.

Back in the day, Sonic games were about going fast, The levels were simple because it allowed you to lots of long stretches of land to gain speed, before letting you off into a series of loops, jumps and obstacles.
This is all sonic needed to be, it was unapologetically fun in its simplicity.
The goal of the game was to get rings, get emeralds, beat Robotnik.

And it was good at what it set out to do, have fun.

Sonic Unleased NEARLY was the best sonic game in YEARS, why? The Daytime Sonic stages were about speeding through the levels, bouncing off springs and collecting lots of rings.
If it was a game of nothing but daytime stages, ti would have been an amazing title.
But then they had to ruin it with the nighttime werehog stages.

Sonic shouldn't take itself seriously.

Sonic, Tails, Knuckles,Amy, Metal Sonic and Robotnik.
Those 6 characters are all the series really needs

After that it just got ridiculous, Shadow the hedgehog? awful.
Big The Cat? ARE YOU SERIOUS? Silver the Hedgehog? Ugghh.
"Vector The Crocodile" and all the other ones? They suck too.

Basically Sega took Sonic, tried to add in too many unlikable characters, shoehorned in way more plot then they should have ever tried, and changed much of the gameplay around.

After Sonic CD, Sega took a giant leap into a pit of trash, and never really recovered, by then the core gameplay had been stripped away for the most part. We got occasional games that mimmicked the classics, but they weren't the same.

Sonic 4 could be exactly what the series needs.
And it's depressing to see it get based by all these kids, only because they grew up with the "Awful Sonic" series.

i loved goldeneye, too

Ok that's scary and what does that have to do with sonic
Aren't those some of Itchy And Scratchy's friends, from The Simpsons?

Or I might be crazy...

You can do better than that. The 'Show me the math" was directed at how half the fanbase hated SA2. The fact that you had to change my words to give me an answer only helps prove my point.

Sounds like an Arcade game to me. Console games need Depth, something that most sonic titles lack. SatBK, SA, SA2 and SatSR are really the only truely dep games, in both gameplay and story.

Saying shadow the hedgehog is awful proves that you barely took a glance at him. How is he awful? He IS awful now, but had he died in SA2, he would forever be the ultimate character in STH, a martyr of sorts. When he woke up in Sonic Heroes, he became an awful character for quite a while until he got his own title game, but because non of the endings are considered canon, i can't count it in for the story. A lot of good Shad material was wasted there. Its the whole Space Colony ARK story that makes shadow good. He was created so that his 'backstory' is still unfolding. I don't mean it's still being revealed, but more along the lines of there being no imidiate Climax in Shadow's life. He was thrust into chaos from the start, and not much of that has changed. He has no backstory, just a story really.
This whole paragraph is really just a rant about how '? awful.' isn't 'is awful' or 'was awful'. He's truley become someone different, as well as Sonic.

Big... he would have made a better NPC in Gamma's lifeline and then he should have just disappeared. In a sense, that is the case if you consider Sonic Heroes part of a whole different series. But it isn't, so we're stuck with him. Silver... really just some fish to throw at the spriter seals. Chaotix is unfair to judge, being as they were originally scrapped characters. In the game Knuckles Chaotix, the basic plot was SEGA making money off bad ideas by heading them with Knuckles.

Sonic Unleashed was a failure as a whole because the day stages kept switching from 3D to sidescroller ("2.5D") causing for oddity. Because the controls don't change in this transition, they had to find a middle ground, killing the day stages due to control.

I think we all know what went wrong at night.

They are held so high because of nostalgia. Thats why you refuse to look at the Adventure Series, and probably why i don't turn an eye at Sonic Heroes and beyond, save for the story book series. But the way they were made, it's almost like trying to appease Sonic Adventure fans. They (SEGA) hold them in such low regard, that they don't even voice act in english correctly because they're too busy making sonic turn into a werewolf.
Fire lord you just id not grow up with the games i found about him from my friend he told me the best is Sonic 1,2,3 and SaK most of sonic's real fans agree ok . Unhappy Unhappy Tongue_out

um no they just need to be fun, trying to make a "serious" story revolving around an anthropomorphic hedgehog is dumb

OK, this is carp, man. I've played both of those games to completion, including the Super Sonic final boss of Adventure, and spent roughly forty hours raising Chao, which was Adventure 2's only redeeming feature.

They are bad games from every narrative, technical, and gameplay standpoint.

As for Shadow, he's a typical brooding character archetype. He's an evil scientifically engineered hedgehog. That is such a dumb sentence.

btw: I'm not a huge fan of the Adventure series.
Aside from the Genesis/MegaDrive games, I'm not a huge Sonic fan, because they never really felt quite as fun or solid as the originals.
i don't even like the genesis games that much, i just acknowledge their huge contribution to gaming and their pure fun factor

I'm sure you beat the genesis games much earlier than SA2.

And that last sentence is dumb. He's not evil. Many people would like to think that, but in truth he's misguided from the moment he opens out of that capsule.

And also, isn't their a rule against foul language?
