Even more concerning when you know Lui wasn't even 10 at that point (he's 10 in S1 which means he was 9 at that point).

Now this makes me wonder about something. Based on Morita's answer to one of the questions, Shu's mom actually comes home at night to have dinner with him at times, which means she's not completely absent from his life. How didn't she figure out that something was wrong with him?
A mother would instantly know if something's off about her child and well, watching any of his battle during the God Blader's Cup would've raised a ton of red flags in her face (and that's assuming she wouldn't even recognise her son behind a mask if she saw any of the battles before that).

Don't worry about it. It is just an incredibly big plot hole (assuming Morita is not making up the answers on the spot without much thinking). Or they're just bad parents.

As an interesting trivia point, Hiro Morita mentioned that Shu often cooks for his mom when she gets home after a tiring day at work.

Oh Yeah I read that. Shu is in fact is a good son, but his parents are idiots.
Im sure the whole angsty-Shu character arc wouldve been stopped quickly if he had a Promised Neverland-esque mother. Im telling you — mothers from TPN are crazy-good at reading expressions and body language /lh But of course, Shu is a really well-received character and fans wanted to see more of him. So Red Eye arc eventually happened

Not the only anime this happened either, same thing in Naruto

Sasuke - Very loved character which turned evil, later turns good thanks to the main character. Literally the same thing as Shu.

Im not convinced that some plot points are not inspired by other animes like Naruto.
Its kinda a warranted thing tbh. In one aspect, if a character is very very VERY loved by the fandom, then the people behind the series will work on them more. Basically appealing the audience by giving beloved characters more screentime, arcs, etc. Which is good if the series wants to keep up the audience’s interest — in a terrible scenario, if this tactic is abused, hated characters might be ignored and never get the chance to grow into a beloved one

Which is why some people end up liking side characters more than the protagonists! I find Shu the main mascot of Burst due to how influential his actions’ consequences are and how appealing he is to the audience

Yup! He's always been the one to kickstart the main plot in every single season save for GT (He invited Valt to the Districts and by proxy introduced him to competitive Blading, the Snake Pit mini-arc is where God starts to get serious, he's the one who explained what Resonance -Cho-Z's main plot point- was, and he was also Lane's mentor in Sparking). Shu basically runs the Burst series at this point lol.

He's certainly integral in those seasons, but I wouldn't say he's the mascot of Burst. I'd say that's Valt. He's second only to Valt in influence in the Burst series in universe.

Idk man, you could say they're both equal in terms of influence (though Shu tends to be more subtle and indirect).

Yeah that's what I would say. Shu and Valt have equal in terms of influence, but Shu's fanbase is many times more than Valt's.

Tbh I don't know if they're really equal in that regard. Aiger started blading because of witnessing the power of Valt's Wonder Valtryek. Valt personally mentored the two most important characters in Rise; Dante and Delta. And it was seeing Valt's Sword Valtryek and it's Hyper Flux that moved Dante on his journey. It was Valt's battle with Rantaro and Silas that made Hyuga and Hikaru want to get lightning beys and challenge the Legends, specifically challenging Valt first. It's also been shown that Valt has inspired bladers all over the world, not that Shu isn't respected, but Valt's influence has been displayed more. Just as an example, in Rise, Arman literally says that it's an honor to battle Valt. Other bladers have been moved to further their training because of Valt, Hae Jin for example. Just demonstrating the respect Valt has earned in the blading world.
Shu’s fanbase is, as mentioned above, really big. Yep, theyre both influential in their own ways. Its just that weird phenomenon in creative works where a side/supporting character happens to be a lot more popular than the protagonist. I feel like people who watch Burst — even the ones who decided theyre not interested — tend to like and remember Shu a lot more

And of course, thats not getting into Shu’s crazy fangirl community yet...
And even characters like Hannah, Ransou and Basara seem to be inspired by Valt (Hannah seems to be more of a Fangirl than inspired). Really does show how loved Valt is in the blading world.

In the burst beyblading world. Wanna compare Valt with Ryuga?

Shu's fanbase outnumbers Valt's. Also, the only blader in the burst world that can "stand" agaisnt Valt is Shu. Influence and respect is different.  Okay, in the shows that's created by people, but the people/fanbase that watches them, prefer Shu over Valt. Valt is my Boi, but Shu is my favorite character in burst.

they're more crazy fangirls then Fanboys lol. Shu's and Free's fangirls are frightening (not mentioning Zac's.)

That side of it is certainly true. In the fanbase Shu is liked more, though not by a large margin. Valt is still an extremely popular character. I was really talking about in-universe. Valt is the most admired blader in the world and has really inspired bladers all over like no other in the Burst universe. Speaking in in-universe terms.

Understood. And ngl, in-universe seems to have more common sense /lh Valt is truly inspiring, and hes a really good person at heart. Definitely someone who seems impossible to be attacked by cancel culture, because hes that sweet (edit: And thus, I feel like theyre looking up to the right person. I think in-universe, Shu might be mistrusted by people, even years after seeing him possessed on TV)

And out-of-universe, some of Shu’s fans would defend him at all costs (Ive seen people blaming Valt for “stopping” him) and wont bother having a nice debate first. Not that liking Shu is wrong — I just think in-universe fans have more brains

It's one of the things I love about Valt's journey as a character; One of the things that makes him my favorite in the entire Beyblade franchise. To see where Valt started, as blader who could barely launch, who struggled with self doubt and numerous setbacks, to see him go from that to the most admired, powerful, and influential blader in the entire world is just amazing. All the while not losing that charm. You can understand why people the world over want to battle him and be like him. He's literally the gold standard for bladers everywhere.

Oh believe me I've seen that side of the fanbase. Not saying every Shu fan is like that, Shu is actually my second favorite Beyblade character. But I've seen fans refuse to acknowledge that Valt earned that win over Shu and his status as the world's top blader.
Yeah, unfortunately some fanbases are like that. The world would be a better place if people pitch in 1% more common sense online

Again, not that liking Shu is bad. Sure, some really wild Shu fans (shudders from my memory of that infamous Shu fangirl) rubbed me the wrong way and kinda ruined my enjoyment of him. But I really still like him as a character and hes fun to discuss about, since hes one of Burst’s only heavily-developed characters. Personally, I like anywhere run by the WBO because theres a lot of mature discussion about him and not say, the incessant chanting of “I LIKE SHU UWU HE DA BEST”
Shu is one of my favorite characters. His rivalry with Valt is my favorite in Beyblade. Love his design, his bey, and the great character work that was done with him.

I have to agree with you there because Valt at full power can clap Shu. I hope they battle in DB that will be awesome to watch
