It's possible that this design was originally intended to be Trident (like how the original MFB Quetzalcoatl was actually a design for Cancer).

Iunno.

The vast majority of Xcalibur Layers have never broken. I do think TT could do more to prevent breaks and there are some serious engineering oversights in the Dual Layer series, but I don't think Xcalibur particularly has an issue.

It's a shame since if you were in Japan getting replacements for broken parts would be trivial.

Yeah, sometimes these are just isolated cases in a sense ... I've used my Xcalibur Layers hundreds of times, as have other people I know in the Toronto community and I haven't heard of any of us breaking one. But any Layer could break just because of the nature of the game.

It might also have to do with the plastic it's made from. Pearly plastics are usually pretty weak thanks to the mixture that gives them the pearly appearance. Maybe the specific mixture that's used to make that silver is weaker than the one used to make the traditional gold?

The only other answer that I could come up with is they might have changed the actual screws when they introduced Dual Layers, and they're messing with the structural integrity of the design.
