My arm definitely doesn't go the same speed or path every launch, so I don't see how simply angling your launcher will make you have the perfect launch every time.

Speed also does not affect the angle, so it is all about controlling your launch. If you pull the winder or string backwards with a certain force F1 and that you want your system to remain immobile (S[F]=0), then you have to find an opposite force (F2) so that F1-F2=0. You basically have to do sideways what you do vertically to hold something up in the air and counter gravity.
I just don't see how you can be affective considering you aren't going to launch at the same speed, direction and angle on your follow through regardless of how you line it up at the beginning.
