Pretty Cure/PreCure Thread - From "Futari wa" to "DokiDoki" and onwards

I saw someone here (IIRC, user Gloomy) with a PreCure thread, and I told myself, "There's someone on this board that actually watches this show, too!" I'm just not as open about it because it's a "magical girl"-genre of anime. But I do love the show, actually.

It started with "Futari wa Precure", which then had a second season called "Futari wa Precure: Max Heart". Afterwards, it was "Pretty Cure Splash Star," a similar-looking but different series of the Precure series compared to its predecessor. After that was "Yes! Precure 5", and as the name states, they went from 2 Precures (Max Heart added one more with the same two characters) to a whopping 5 (like Sailor Moon, essentially, except they stay at 5....sort of). It then had it's own second season, "Yes! Precure 5 Go! Go!", adding a 6th hero to their team.

Fresh Pretty Cure went down to a 3, but added a 4th when (avoiding spoilers lol). And HeartCatch Pretty Cure followed the same suit as Fresh. Now we bring ourselves to Suite PreCure, and god knows where we go from there.

Each series has it's own theme. I'm not aware of anything past HeartCatch (which is where I started), but HeartCatch had something like Flowers, and Suite had music (making it my favorite <3). I hope I broke the ice enough for you guys.

So do you guys also watch this series? How do you compare it to other magical girl animes? Which is your favorite series? etc. etc.

Edit: Also, for any Kamen Rider fans out there, Cure Black's voice actress is the same as...this girl from Kamen Rider Black and Black RX.
I love the anime, but I only saw up to the second season when it was still only Cure Black and Cure White. I had no Idea that there was six heroes, because they stopped airing it where I live Unhappy
Yeah, they even did specials during Fresh, HeartCatch, and Suite called the "DX" movies, where ALL the Precures of the past series get together with the current ones. They're often shown in the first 10 episode span of the series.
it has been a while, but those two creatures that allow the girls to become Cure Black and Cure white are somewhat annoying. I do not remember their names, because it has been a year since it stopped airing for me
The Fairies? Oh yeah...I REALLY wanted to punch them in Heartcatch, though Suite Precure seems to be a lot more tolerable. Probably because the closest thing to a fairy you get is a "cat".
Looking back at this thread...I haven't given it enough love. And I KNOW that we have some Precure fans here. Don't be ashamed to admit it; it's pretty badcarp for a magical girl anime, even if it isn't as dark as Madoka whatsitcalled.

On topic: the new series after Suite is announced: Smile Pretty Cure.

From what I can tell, it seems to be a Fairy Tale theme or something. The names are as followed:

Cure Happy (Pink)
Cure Sunny (Red)
Cure Peace (Yellow)
Cure March (Green)
Cure Beauty (Blue)
Candy (Mascot)

Character designer is the same as Yes! Precure 5 and Yes! Precure 5 Go! Go!, which is why there are some similarities between the two.

Discuss. We need more Precure fans. XD

Edit:
Also, to anyone who wants to try out the series, I can direct you to subgroups who have done this series. All you need is a torrent...program...thing. As for recommendations, I HIGHLY recommend the very first series, "Futari wa Precure". I also recommend the currently latest series, "Suite Precure".
YES! A PRECURE THREAD! BTW, I still can't get over how awesome Kaji's Fari avatar is XD

My favorite Precure series overall would have to be Heartcatch Precure, why?
The Intense fights and Cure Moonlight
(I think I just blew my cover saying this) Pinching_eyes_2

Also IMHO, Heartcatch Precure is the darkest Precure series ever made. Why?

Kaji, if you want Precure fans, go here :

It's the biggest Precure fan community you will ever find on the internet, unfortunately none of them are into Beyblade :\.

Speaking of Smile Precure, the civilian names have been confirmed

Hoshizora Miyuki/Cure Happy
Hino Akane/Cure Sunny
Kise Yayoi/Cure Peace - the one who confirmed the names in PCLJ is not too sure about the surname
Aoki Reika/Cure Beauty
Midorikawa Nao/Cure March

Fairy name is Candy

Magical Land is Märchenland - a land of Fairy Tales

Villain name is Piero
Märchenland....yeah, if I connect this with an anime/manga I am familiar with, this is definitely Fairy Tale based. I'm also aware of PCLJ. I forgot my LJ account. lol

I COULD agree with Heartcatch, but even with all the deaths, it still seemed more lighthearted than Suite (Suit has yet to show deaths). Futari wa is probably the darkest because of how realistic it is for those girls, having to be a part of something they aren't exactly comfortable with.

I don't really think Heartcatch is lighthearted than Suite. There was death in HCPC but there were issues such as Parental Abandonment (Prof. Tsukikage left Yuri to find the Heart Tree, only to end up as a Mad Scientist and created Dark Precure, whose sole purpose it to fight Moonlight) and Sibling fights (though Moonlight did not know that Dark Precure was her younger sister until the end). I'd say Cure Moonlight plot is pretty gut-wrenching Gasp

IMHO, Suite has issues with plot and storyline. The producers made some very bad choices plot was all over the place which made it very confusing, but it is still enjoyable overall, not as 'epic' and gut-wrenching as Heartcatch was.

I found Futari wa Pretty Cure rather decent but meh, someone recommended one of the gut-wrenching episodes to me and I just went Tired over the computer :\

Oh well, people have different opinions Tired
Which gut-wrenching episode? The Kiriya episode? I CRIED SO HARD FOR HONOKA!

Heartcatch didn't really have anything that caught me. I think I'm more into Suite because it's music related. That, and episodes 30 and 41 were just absolutely grand.

It think it was around the episode 40s. Confused

Oh well, I have to accept that you like things in Precure differently to I. I found so many things that caught me in Heartcatch Precure, I won't say much, that's why I love that series, and Suite was rather enjoyable but not good enough to make it to my favorites.

If I hadn't found out about Heartcatch Precure, I would still be hating Precure now. yes, I used to hate and never watch Precure, pre-Heartcatch.
I watched it, and got laughed at. I only did it cos there was nothing else on and I was bored.
...So? So what if you get laughed at? I take pride at watching that stuff. Besides, they fight hardcore. It's punch and kicks 3/4 the time, magic powers 1/4.

There's nothing wrong with watching an anime that's considered girly. It's like being 20 and playing Beyblade at that age with little kids twice younger than you. Take pride in what you do and what you like, and don't let anyone else push you around.

If they do, push them back, hard, and make sure it hurts.
....I actually wanted to get one of those little device things when I was small but my mum was like "O.O that's for girls! Are you serious?!" . Well actually, the problem is that I have no privacy whatsoever so I can't even browse through any SAFE stuff without even getting a "What are you doing? You better not be doing anything wrong!!"
So with Suite ended...I forgot how long ago, but Smile is airing right now. They hit half-way when the Pretty Cures fought against the Bad End Kingdom to reclaim their kidnapped fairy friend Candy (who btw is voiced by Pikachu), and obtained their upgrade forms to defeat the big bad who...is not dead yet. He's still a big bad, and now the Pretty Cures are going to have to up their game.

On the topic of upgrade forms, how do you feel about them? I've only watched Futari wa, Max Heart, Heartcatch, and Suite, and here's how I see it:
Futari wa abuses their upgrades once they get it with it being the new finisher every day. It's just an upgrade, not a form.
Max Heart, it's the same abuse. Shiny Luminous doesn't really abuse it hers as much, but Black and White LOVE their upgrades. They do get their upgrade form in the second movie, and it doesn't last long.
Heartcatch's upgrades are usually straight-up finishers. They get new forms, but it's a pure finisher. The Cures here put the smack down on the enemies without having to change forms unless they are together.
Suite gets their upgrade midway, but they don't get their upgrade form until the movie (Melody only) and at the VERY END of the series.

Other series like Kamen Rider tend to abuse their upgrades once they get it. Most notable is Kiva with a Henshin STRAIGHT into Emperor form. Smile right now just got their upgrades, but I feel it's going to be abused a lot. According to the toy Princess Candles, it seems there are individual finishers for these. But yeah...upgrade abuse, in about exactly midway the series...I don't like the look of it.

If anyone watches Ika Musume, btw, Cure Peace is voiced by her.

Edit:
Also, if any fans do watch the series, how did you feel about "Pretty Cure All Stars DX New Stage"? I found it kinda disappointing...
i have futari wa pretty cure seasons 1 and 2 imported from japan the main girl characters look so cute for futari wa pretty cure seasons 1 and seasons 2 and i will have to buy the other pretty cure seasons imported from japan to
If you want cute, definitely Heartcatch. The designs are a bit strange compared to past seasons, but I loved the characters in this season. Especially Erika; so much fun and full of life...much more interactive than the past spunky characters.
thats cool cant wait to own that series imported from japan on dvds
Ten years of Pretty Cure, and we come to a new series: DokiDoki! Pretty Cure. Anyone else still following this series?

Because ten years, that's like a milestone. And it's not like 10 spaced out years. It's 10 consecutive years of consecutive seasons. That's Toei for ya, from Kamen Rider (then again, there was this huge space before the start of Kuuga) to Super Sentai to Pretty Cure. So what hopes do you have for this new series?
