Sony accidentally put up these polls on Facebook:

The rumored character list so far:
Big Daddy (Facebook Poll)
Nathan Drake (Facebook Poll + Twitter Leak)
Cole (Twitter Leak)
Solid Snake (Twitter Leak)
Sackboy (Paul Gale Network)
Jak & Daxter (Paul Gale Network)
Ratchet & Clank (Paul Gale Network)

As well, Sony registered a website for the game linking it to Vita. That's likely going to be announced at E3 at this point.
If anyone from Metal Gear ends up in this game, I quit life...Snake must have been some kind of in-game-virus from SONY that took all of Nintendo's Super Smash Bro secrets and made them better...the box did always look suspicious...

On the bright side, PS3 now has a game that actually makes me want to almost own a PS3
On the negative side, if Wii U doesn't compete with this, I double-quit life...this is like the one good thing Nintendo does nowadays...they cannot just give that up...
This has got to be the least interesting roster for any game I've ever seen - and I played Ehrgeiz.
Honestly, I'm not feeling this lineup all that much either. Things like Big Daddy are not iconic to the PlayStation brand, nor am I caring for how western and PS3 heavy this list is so far. I'd much rather have more characters like Parappa than Cole from inFamous.
The problem is that, while Sony has some very nice IP under its belt, most of it is only really comfortable within its own confined space. It's not like Nintendo and Capcom where every character from any given game could be yanked and stuck in a wacky party/fighting game.

I'd disagree with the idea that all Capcom franchises are somehow within the same tones, because MegaMan (RIP) Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter are very different in terms of look, style, and tones. Nintendo's the same too, Metroid is a lot more grim than Nintendo's other franchises. My problem with the roster is that it relies too heavily on present day characters, and is including a third party character whose first game didn't even launch on PS3 until a year later.
I think a better way to put what I was trying to say is that "Nintendo and Capcom have enough experience mixing their franchises in exactly this way that their IP can be much more different than Sony's without it being anywhere near this offputting".

I'm not sure if it's just me, or anything, but due to the nature of this relying on such recent characters almost exclusively, this game just comes off as a shoddy BUY OUR OTHER STUFF game. SSB and such kind of came off that way, too, but just... not as up front, I guess? Capcom games never gave me that feeling, but then... I didn't recognize 90% of the characters in those games until I got older, haha.
Also consider how long Nintendo has been in the business compared to SONY...if there is one area Nintendo will always take 1st place in, it is nostalgia and the legacy of its games. People who don't play on Nintendo consoles still know who Mario is, whereas a SONY game or even an Xbox game can never have that kind of magic, hence one reason why this roster doesn't feel familiar, welcoming or even engaging.
You realize that Sony will have been in the video game industry longer than Nintendo was when they launched the first Super Smash Bros. on N64, right?

They have the nostalgia. It's just for characters like Crash, and Spyro not for stuff like Bioshock.
Yeah, Crash and Spyro are the main ones that hit home for me actually - that was a perfect example. I also remember Einhander(but I'm not sure it would go well in a fighting game, lol) and Gex(worst games, ever, save for Superman 64 and Catwoman).

However, absolutely no one can argue that Sony's IP is more well-known or universally recognizable than Nintendo's - but this has little bearing on this game's viability, if Sony actually uses the right IP.

I want to see a Spyro revival that isn't garbage more than anyone, I suspect, but... seeing him in a game that isn't Skylanders would at least give some semblance of comfort that he may not be dead forever.
Big Daddy and Nathan Drake confirmed, as well as Vita version. Vita version will support multiplayer with PS3, as well as cloud saving between devices.

Nathan Drake is about as interesting a character as any given individual from Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Fun games, extremely boring character.
It sounds ok.... But Playstation doesnt really have original characters. Like i know we have Ratchet and Kratos, but it doesnt really click for me like Super Smash Bros has a great variety of characters, an Angel to a cute little Pink Blob. But it might be good im wrong alot. I will laugh if they put Sackboy on it.

Compared to Nintendo Sony's first party stable is Wal-Mart compared to a small convenience store. The issue is that this game is being made by a western studio, and it's already showing itself to be very western heavy.

Sackboy definitely will be in this game. He's the only PS3 era character who really needs to be in this game. He should be like Kirby and be able to copy people's appearance via tool kit or something.
Gotta admit, I do like the idea of a battle between Kratos and a Big Daddy... like, that's pretty damn epic XD

I might check it out, sounds cool.
Next rumored character reveals are set for EVO next month. That said, Gamerbliss.com posted up an article confirming that Jak (from Jak & Daxter) and Toro (from a bazillion Japan-only games) will be joining the roster.
So it seems that since Dissidia is a relatively recent release, this game won't be featuring Final Fantasy characters? That's quite a letdown, but they've been a part of a couple of mishmoshes/cross overs so I guess that's understandable. Still disappointing nevertheless.
They could just be saving that announcement. Cloud is kind of a hugely distinct PlayStation character.
That's what I was thinking; it seems like too big of an opportunity to pass cashing in on.
So, Seth Killian who's known in the fighting game community for being the Special Combat Advisor (what does this mean) for Street Fighter, as well as a bunch of other roles at Capcom is now at Sony Santa Monica working on this game. Seth announced his departure from Capcom last week.
Im very interested to see how Sweet Tooth does in this game, being a big fan of Twisted Metal. Kratos, not a fan of GOW but i know wat he does and stuff. Fat Princess??? XD
North American release date is set for October 23. If you preorder the game you'll receive an exclusive set of alternate costumes for every character in the game:

Some costume nods:
- Kratos is reskinned as Deimos, his brother from God of War: Ghost of Sparta
- Parappa is wearing a costume seen in Umjammer Lammy for PS1
- Sly Cooper is wearing the costume found in the Medieval sections of Sly: Thieves in Time
- Sweet Tooth is wearing the Sweet Tooth costume from Starhawk
- Big Daddy is dressed up as the doll Little Sister holds onto in Bioshock

Of course there will be costumes you unlock in the game as well. Tonight we'll get character, and stage reveals at EVO, with more coming next week at Comic-Con.
EVO reveals:

Toro Inoue

"Toro Inoue, also known as the Sony Cat, has been a faithful mascot to Sony in Japan for over a decade! He has made appearances in numerous video games spanning several different Sony consoles and is a welcome addition to our roster. Though appearing to be simply a cute feline, the warrior within proves to be as formidable as the next.

Toro brings a unique stance-based fighting style to PlayStation All-Stars, affording him several different sets of attacks to utilize in combat. He transitions seamlessly from a close-range fighter in his Justice form, to a ranged specialist in his Torobi form, to an effective wide-area controller in his Oni form. All the while, Toro’s fun-loving charm comes through in every action he performs. Be sure to check him out!"

Heihachi Mishima

"Hailing from the ever-popular Tekken series, the original mastermind behind the Mishima Zaibatsu joins the battle! Making his first appearance on the PSX in 1995, Heihachi is one of only five characters to appear in every iteration of Tekken thereafter, brawling his way through 17 years of King of Iron Fist tournaments. Heihachi fans will feel right at home with this newest interpretation.

Familiar moves such as his Electric Wind God Fist and Twin Pistons are intact and as deadly as ever. He excels at close-range combat, overwhelming opponents with quick, powerful strikes. Heihachi’s combo potential ranks among the best in the roster, turning every encounter into a stylish martial arts exhibition. Though the battlefield has changed, Heihachi brings his signature fighting style and brutal attacks to PlayStation All-Stars!"

As well, a new stage entitled "Dojo" was revealed. It is a mash up of Chop Chop Master Onion's dojo in Parappa with Killzone. Both new additions to the roster have franchise specific references in their moves. For example, one of Toro's specials sees him summon Kuro, his best friend, to kick away the opposition. Heihachi's level 3 move is a direct reference to Tekken 5.

OP updated to include new trailer for the game in general.
